Hey, and welcome to this day in history.
It's March 11th, and on this day in 1989,
a television mainstay was born.
Cops was a documentary style television series
that followed police officers and sheriff's deputies
as they did their jobs, and the show debuted on Fox on this day.
With its catchy, bad boys theme song,
the show was a pioneer in reality TV.
And became one of the longest running shows
in television history.
Surprising fact, the unscripted format
worked in the creator's favor
when they pitched the original idea to Fox.
Since there was a writer's strike in Hollywood at the time,
and the network needed new programming
that wouldn't require writers.
Also on this day in history in 1888,
the great blizzard of 88 at the East Coast.
In 1997, Paul McCartney was knighted by Queen Elizabeth.
And in 2011, the Fukushima nuclear disaster
damaged parts of Japan.
That's all for today.
Come back tomorrow to learn a little bit more
about the world around you, be kind to yourself, and others,
and enjoy the rest of your day.
