Well, hey there and welcome to this day in history.
It's March 17th and of course Happy St. Patrick's Day.
And if you're wearing green to celebrate, maybe a little more info as to why you're celebrating would be helpful.
On this day in 461, St. Patrick, a Christian missionary,
Bishop and Apostle of Ireland died at Saul down Patrick Ireland.
As the patron saint of Ireland, he is believed to have baptized hundreds in a single day
and is often depicted trampling snakes, symbolizing the belief that he drove these reptiles out of Ireland.
For centuries, the Irish have celebrated the day of St. Patrick's Death
as a religious holiday, attending church in the morning
and enjoying food and drink in the afternoon.
Surprising fact, the first St. Patrick's Day parade did not happen in Ireland,
but in the United States.
Records show that a St. Patrick's Day religious procession was held on March 17th,
1601 in a Spanish colony under the leadership of the colony's Irish Vicar, Ricardo Artur.
Also on this day in 1776, General George Washington drove British troops out of Boston.
In 1905, Franklin D. Roosevelt married Eleanor Roosevelt and in 2000.
Julia Roberts became the first actress to earn a $20 million paycheck.
That's all for today. Come back tomorrow to learn a little bit more about the world around you.
Be kind to yourself and others and enjoy the rest of your day.
