Welcome to this day in history.
Here's what happened on March 27th.
Telephones have been in use at the White House since 1878
when President Rutherford B. Hayes had the first one installed.
However, a phone wasn't installed at the president's desk
until this day in 1929, thanks to President Herbert Hoover.
Before this, Hoover had used a phone in the foyer
just outside the office.
Surprising fact, before President Barack Obama
sitting presidents were not permitted to have a cell phone,
mainly for security reasons.
Also on this day in history, in 1912,
the first cherry trees were planted
along the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
In 1939, the NCAA crowned
its first men's basketball tournament champion.
And in 1998, the FDA approved the use of Viagra.
That's all for today.
Come back tomorrow to learn a little bit more
about the world around you.
Be kind to yourself and others
and enjoy the rest of your day.
