literal heavyweights,
fought in one of the most anticipated
title fights in sports history.
It became known as the Fight of the Century.
On this day in 1971,
Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier
fought at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
And the fight lived up to the hype.
Ali initially threw more punches,
but Frazier's punches seemed to pack
a little bit more impact.
Frazier delivered a left hook to Ali's chin,
knocking him down for just the third time
in his legendary career.
Frazier won the fight by unanimous decision,
keeping his title and giving Ali the first loss of his career.
the two fighters would face off two more times
with Ali winning both of those matches.
Also on this day in history,
Volkswagen began producing the iconic VW bus.
