Welcome to this day in history. It's May 2. The current Broadway revival of Death of
a Salesman starring Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf has received rave reviews and sold-out
shows, the play by Arthur Miller won the Pulitzer Prize for drama on this day in 1949.
The most famous work of his career, Miller described the story as the tragedy of a man
who gave his life or sold it while pursuing the elusive American dream. The play, which
premiered on Broadway just three months earlier, also won six Tony Awards. Surprising fact,
in his autobiography Miller said the first act spilled out of him in a single day of writing.
Also on this day in history, in 1933, the Loch Ness Monster was allegedly cited for
the first time. In 1972, FBI director Jay Edgar Hoover died, and in 2011, Osama bin
Lawton was killed by U.S. forces. That's all for today. Come back tomorrow to learn
a little bit more about the world around you, be kind to yourself and others, and enjoy
the rest of your day.
