Montreal Canadiens prospect Vinzenz Rohrer is officially joining the Laval Rocket for their playoff push—and it raises some big questions.
In this episode, Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico break down Rohrer’s season in Switzerland, how he’s developed playing against men, and what kind of impact he could have right away in Laval.
Can Rohrer step into a meaningful role during the Rocket’s playoff run? What should expectations be for a young forward making the jump at this stage of the season?
We also dive into the bigger picture:
Where does Rohrer fit in the Canadiens’ prospect pool?
What role could he play with Laval next season?
And how close is he to becoming a full-time NHL option in Montreal?
If you’re tracking the Habs’ future and want a deeper look at one of their intriguing young forwards, this is a must-watch.

Marco, you and I expanded on some of the Canadians' prospects more specifically towards what these
players were doing with their respective club teams, CHL overseas, Continental Hockey League
and another pro league.
But now the good news is here, the Laval Rocket have received a little more depth from the
Swiss Elite League.
It's Vincent's Roar to the Laval Rocket.
Let's talk about what this means to an already stacked team that's on a by-week ready
for their Calder Cup run this spring.
Yeah, well, the National League ended, Zurich did not win the championship for what, a third
year in a row.
And so Vincent's Roar, who remembers signed an NHL contract last year, so the Canadians
were able to reassign him to Laval the moment that his season is over.
He is currently on his way to Laval's and expected to practice with them on Friday, and
then we'll see if they'll get him into games this weekend as the Laval Rocket try to close
out the American Hockey League season.
But a lot of the questions I've gotten, Sean, were, who is this guy?
Because think about it, he was drafted in the third round in 2022, played two years, I believe,
with the Ottawa 67, is draft year in the following year.
Yeah.
So I think it's, it makes sense to maybe break down his style so that everybody can kind
of get familiar and kind of set their expectations on what's coming.
I remember, you know, you brought him to the forefront when you saw him at the world.
What was it about his game that made you stand up and notice?
His speed, his speed, his tenacity, he's always so difficult to get off the puck like,
again, I love making this comp.
I made it in the last video.
I'll say it again.
I love like the illegitimate love child between Brendan Gallagher and Paul Byron.
I love it.
It's illegitimate too.
Yeah.
Both of those gentlemen are kindly married.
So it's fair, fair, accurate illegitimate.
But he is just a dog out there.
And obviously he's not the biggest profile.
I know that's going to, you know, be a topic of conversation in the comments for sure that, you know,
he is only five, 10, 5, 11 and about a hundred and seventy five hundred and eighty pounds.
But he's one of those gifted athletes where he's very difficult to get off the puck like battling against him.
And I've spoken to guys in the OHL there was six, two, six, three battling against him in junior.
And they would say how it was an absolute battle for every inch on that ice against him.
And that's exactly the kind of competitiveness that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gordon.
Really like.
And I know that he was a player that Nick Bobrov absolutely adored in his draft here as well, because he's the kind of player that has the physical tools and the competitive drive to be a really fun role player for the Canadians if he ever does make it.
And, you know, you look at guys maybe that are in Laval right now.
You look at guys like Luke Tuck, you look at guys like Tyler Thorpe, there's guys in the pipeline like Hayden Papini, because like they have some big boys.
But do they have that kind of smash mouth crash and bang fast player that can play in a bottom six and be like impose his style on the game, right?
People have become enamored with a guy like Jovaleno over the last stretch of the season, because he's playing with pace.
He's quick out there on a bottom six that is relatively slow, like I wouldn't say slow, but average in terms of its skating ability.
Well, having a guy like Vincent's word develop in Laval, that's a guy I believe can move up the line up quick because he has the experience of playing against men.
He's played against NHL talent at the world championships and looked really good at it.
He can play penalty kill, he can play the power play, and he's an absolute bulldog on the ice.
He's going to be a treat for the Laval rocket faithful to watch during these playoffs, because I think he's going to bring an element to that team a jump in energy level that they sorely need in their bottom six.
I think it's interesting the way you kind of just finished describing him, right?
You brought up his two seasons in the O with the 67s.
Doesn't crack the 50 point threshold seasons of 48, 49 points, but also based on, you know, your description, energy player role player can fly, can hit, right?
But I mean, can we talk about his hockey IQ or are we talking about a smart situational player 14 penalty minutes, 18 penalty minutes in the O you go to his three seasons with Zurich 10, 14, 20 again penalty minutes accrued for Vincent's roar sounds like a guy if you just read a stat sheet, Mark, we doesn't blow your hair back with points and goals, but hey, hey, the other aspects of his game more than make up for the stat sheet kind of deep dive.
Yeah, I mean, it's, if you look at his numbers this year, you would consider it an underwhelming season, and I wouldn't blame you offensively, it wasn't the best for him and Zurich in general, but what I would say is four goals and 12 points this season.
Exactly, and I mean, Zurich is the NNL like the National League in Switzerland is generally a low scoring league, but he's the kind of player that I feel like his a little bit like David Reimbacher, and we've been seeing it, you know, in the NHL of late, but I feel like they have the skill set and the playing style that would make them more optimal for smaller ice.
Then the big ice that they have in Switzerland, and I feel like that's where he'll be effective because roar is the kind of for that takes advantage of whatever ice is in front of him.
And where I think he's as best is when he's taking advantage of the opposition in tight spaces and you know when you play in on large ice is there's more room to get away.
When you play in North American ice and playoff settings, that's when he feasts and for those that remember him at the Canadian's rookie camp this year because he did come to rookie camp, I believe he was he was sent back just before training camp, you know, he was a dog out there, he was everywhere.
And some people were even saying he had the pacing to keep up with some of the bottom six in the Montreal canadians at the beginning of training camp and I would have said you're right on that I'm not saying I'm not projecting him to be this crazy third liner that's going to put up all these points, but I think he has the potential to be.
You know a fan favorite role player in the same way that Paul Byron was for this team when he came in after being picked up through waivers it's just he's taking the path less traveled by going back home to I mean he's Austrian but going going back to Switzerland, you know playing with Zurich get you know playing against men being in that professional setting where championships are what was being asked of him on a regular basis winning in Zurich and now bringing that pedigree back with him.
To the Canadians as he gets his North American career started as of this spring.
Talk about Canadians prospect Vincent's roar thanks for being with us Marco and Sean with you for daily haps content on star and to me go on youtube.com and don't forget we're also available in audio podcast platform so you can take us with you.
You know when we talk about this prospect who makes his way over to join the Laval rocket as they have high hopes of a deep.
HL playoff run hopefully yep hoisting the calder over their heads as as champions of the American Hockey League season after losing out a year ago and I'm curious about when we think about the big picture with this guy Jeff Gordon and Ken Hughes are fond of.
You know the sandpaper guys but I love the way you described it you know he has that dog in him that's what the front office is looking for you know it doesn't necessarily 663 210 that's nice to but if you've got that internal heart of a lion they're looking for that competitive player so where do you think in speaking big picture now Vincent's roar where do you kind of see him fitting in.

I mean this is the guy that you can put on your fourth line beat at center beat at wing.
Right.
And he'll be you know he'll give you honest minutes he'll give you energy consistently he'll push the pace he's a guy that you can play with your eyes closed on the penalty kill.
He's got enough skills to play on a second wave of a power play in my opinion like.
You know right now we're kind of looking at ourselves when we piece together the Canadians bottom six and we're like.
You know who's really standing out.
But if he hits.
Vincent's word is not a player that I think you'll ever have to worry about standing out.
Because he's always going to be catchy.
Be it the elusiveness of skating beat the explosivity be it the crash and bang style be it the puck protection.
I'm not saying he's a perfect prospect I don't I'm I question is offensive ceiling.
I really I do.
But in terms of his physical implication and his defensive impact the kind of potential high value role player if properly developed that could be a very interesting piece for the Canadians as they kind of try to solidify their bottom six and make it more competitive for them as they play off window kind of opens up.
And what about that development window like we think about the bigger picture with Vincent's Aurora 21 years of age right under six foot player but again you know highlighting the fact that.
You know he brings intensity and has that high competitive drive we if we go back and see his his time that he's going to spend with the Laval rocket.
What would you say about how he's used there in the in how pass count based on decides to deploy him if maybe the NHL projection is bottom six player.
Is there a chance they give him a look with that speed and skill you know right handed shot as someone that maybe could have a top six type of role for Laval this spring.
So that all depends on pass caliphate song the way he wants to go about it but do for example do I think that Vincent's were would have more of a shot at a top six right now than Philip Mesh are yes.
Right OK.
But it all depends on because they're stacked there they these you look at the way that they're built right now Joshua was playing on a second line right like and he's playing really well of late.
You know.
Arbor sorry Florian Jack I entire Thorpe on a fourth line like it's difficult because who you taking out on certain cases and they need some of those veterans still in there so he's going to have to earn his way and I think it'll be interesting but I think at the I think a player like him you want to see him in a playoff situation and I think you know he's got the time now.
You know permanently in North America moving forward so this is going to be an interesting player to watch I'm I would be shocked if he's not given his opportunity because again he was drafted four years ago he is 22 so mature more mature along his game than some of the other guys that are already there very interested to see how he's utilized but I think pass caliphate song is going to find him a place no problem.
You think it's a big advantage for a player in terms of like expediting the process that you come from a high level over in Switzerland when you decide to make the jump over.
To North America and play on this ice surface in the way these leagues are generally played you does it play to his advantage in terms of like hurrying up the process.
I don't think it hurries it up either or or slows it down like he's had experience playing on North American ice he's excelled in international championships playing on North American ice and that's what the Canadians are projecting maybe he's not as efficient in in hockey.
But or sorry in like European big ice hockey North American small ice hockey you see vision with him so if it was about getting him playing time and about you know allowing him to kind of develop slowly long term it made sense to send him to allow him to go to Switzerland because Laval was full of those kind of middle.
Like like those bottom six kind of prospects and they've slowly are going to be filtered out over the next couple of you know probably a next year or two whereas Vincent's roar is entry level contract starts this year now and they have two other years after this one.
To be able to judge and see how he develops in North America before having to make a final decision so.
It was smart on them because they kicked the can down the line whereas if they would have signed him in junior out of junior right away this would be his last year already.
The next year would be his last year and of his three year entry level contract well his three year entry level contract started this year by consequence of going to play in Zurich for the last couple and so that gives the Canadians more runway to see what they can have in him and develop him accordingly.
So in other words there's really no significant rush when we think about you know what role he'll play in with what organization next season.
But I think you know he's going to have himself a big year in terms of you know development will we see him at the world junior at the world championships I think that depends on how far Laval goes into the playoffs.
But then a strong summer of training and then the real journey in my opinion begins at next year's training camp that's when it's going to be you know an opportunity for him to really kind of establish himself in the Canadians organizational pecking order.
So one thing the Canadians are very excited to see what he can do in North America.
All right all eyes on Vincent's roar congratulations young man joining the Laval rocket and Laval pretty deep pretty stack competitive team with high hopes of a colder championship in the American hockey league is the Montreal Canadians have high hopes of dispatching the Tampa Bay lighting.
He's going to keep it locked here on T has on on starring to me go for extensive coverage of the Montreal Canadians first round looking forward to a Marco playoff hockey is here at long last.
It is my favorite time of the year and we're knocking on the door I can't wait. All right good stuff man thanks for the update and I think have fans have a reason to kind of get excited a little bit fun talking about prospects fun talking about projections and looking forward and it's up to the player to step up and again make a name for himself good stuff.
Thanks man. All's a pleasure guys have a great day.
