And Dennis Gilbert has been recalled from the Belleville Senators.
What does that mean for Jake Sanderson's injury?
This is Brad Kitchoff and you're listening to the Lockdown Senators podcast.
Your Lockdown Senators, your daily podcast on the Ottawa Senators, part of the Lockdown
Podcast Network.
Your team, every day.
Welcome.
You are locked on to the Ottawa Senators.
I'm Ross Levitt and alongside Brandon Piller today is Monday, March 9th and Pilsie.
Typically, we are all Canucks, but not today.
Yeah, we are not all Canucks today as the Ottawa Senators have their matchup against the
Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver 9 p.m., another the late one, Amazon Prime Game though.
So that's always worth sticking up for.
Yeah, Ross got his Monday night hockey stress puck and Ross, there's one main reason
why you may need to keep that stress puck close by.
Yeah, I've been squeezing this thing all morning, basically since Jake Sanderson left the
game in the second period against Seattle.
A great win for Ottawa, but overshadowed, of course, by Sanderson leaving the game and
all the online doctors speculating on what it could be.
We are not doctors.
However, we can see that when a transaction comes out and the left shot defense been
gets called up for the final game of a road trip.
You know that one, he's not playing tonight and two, the worry begins that Jake Sanderson
could miss a substantial amount of time.
So at the end of the show, we'll discuss that more and what it could mean for Jake Sanderson,
but we can't let that rain on the parade right now, Pilsie.
Jake Sanderson would not want that.
He would want us talking about how Ottawa is 301 in their last four games.
One regulation loss in their last or what, 13, 14 games.
What a stretch right now.
It's been for the Ottawa Senators and it's a next man up mentality and they're going
up against a team tonight in Vancouver that is dead last in the National Hockey League
and you should be able to beat.
We'd said that when they were in Ottawa, funny enough, that was the game that started
this stretch of amazing hockey for Ottawa and it was a grind.
As Kevin Lankin was outstanding in that game, Ottawa snuck out a two to one win on home
ice, but really that was the marker of what's now become an extended stretch of Ottawa
playing really good games.
Yeah, they've been playing great hockey and a part of that is your number one defense
been playing great, but if he's not here, there's other guys that can step up and this
team is playing a good team game as well.
That's the key here.
How about newcomer Warren Fogel getting a goal in his first game as an Ottawa sender
and now you look at that fourth line, Travis Green has the ability to roll all four lines
now.
Every line is consistent.
Has there guys that play their role, has guys that can score, guys that can defend?
This team up front is in a really good spot.
Every single line contributed at least a goal in the game against Seattle and what I loved
about Warren Fogel's debut was the tenacity that he shows on the forecheck.
You can tell that not only does he get in there and bang bodies, but then he's got an
active stick and he's looking to make plays and try to get pucks off of 50-50 battles.
I feel like his win rate for puck battles was extremely high in that first game and you
can only expect him to get better as he gets more comfortable with his new linemates.
But man, I think he's going to be great for Fabian Sederland if that line stays together
too because as Sederland knows, or as we know about Sederland, speed is one of the main
assets that he brings and it feels like with all due respect to Steven Halliday and Lars
Eller, his former two linemates down there, those guys were more like cycle guys and get
it off the wall and that sort of thing.
So now Sederland on breakouts can have another guy who can keep up with him.
Maybe we got some more odd man rushes eventually from that duo and then Lars made a great play
to set up Fogel's goal as well.
Shadow, Joey, to court, give him the second area assist on that one putting it right on
Eller's tape.
But I thought that that line just brought a new element that we haven't seen.
You can throw in David Perol as the guy who's been on Fabian Sederland's other wing for
quite some time this year with Eller.
This is the most speed that Eller's or that Sederland had to work with on his line and
I think it's just so good.
How about Nick Cousins?
The guy that we said, hey, maybe he goes down, Fogel gets thrown on that line.
Two apples for Nick Cousins in that game, Pinto now goals in back-to-back games after
being snake bitten offensively just feels like top to bottom.
This team can roll lines as well as any team in the league.
Definitely.
Yeah.
And that third line was the star of that game up against Seattle in my opinion, Michael
Amadiou of getting a goal as well.
So a goal and assist for Amadiou to assist for Nick Cousins and a goal and to assist for
Shane Pinto.
We're buzzing.
And since fans have been calling for that line to get some offensive production, sure.
When you're shutting down other team's top lines, that's a big deal and we appreciate
that.
But at some point they had to start getting some sort of production because it had really
dried up for them.
So bringing in Warren Fogel, it was kind of like, okay, this is how they're going to kick
start the offense on that third line.
Warren Fogel is going to go there and that's how it's going to get going.
But Travis Green sticks to his guns, keeps Nick Cousins there and they reward him for
it.
Warren Fogel now has eight goals and two assists on the season.
I don't even know if this is a hot take, please tell me how spicy you think this is.
I think Warren Fogel finishes the year with 15 goals.
Yeah, that's for if he stays on the fourth line, that's quite spicy.
Yeah, I'll say that's spicy.
Okay.
I think he's got it in him.
This is a guy that has scored in the past and now all of a sudden let's let's keep
a roll in for him.
I think it could be a nice story here down the stretch for the Ottawa Senators.
He does have four goals in his career against the Vancouver Canucks, nine points and 17 games.
But frankly, we know that the real highlight of tonight's game is going to be how Travis
Green deploys the defensive core.
We're recording this of course with the West Coast game before the morning skate.
We should get some updates on Jake Sanderson and how the lineup will shake out on the
back end once they step on the ice at 130 Eastern time.
So stay tuned on Twitter at Central for that.
We'll make a quick short as well when we get an update on Jake Sanderson, of course, the
number one story, but one that we can't dive in too deeply to until we have more information.
The only thing we can assume confidently is that he won't be in the lineup tonight
when the Senators take on the Vancouver Canucks.
And if there wasn't a opponent that you can go into feeling good without having your
number one defenseman, arguably your best player in Sandy.
I think Vancouver is the team to do it because that team has been struggling for quite some
time.
And then they also off shipped out Conor Garland at the trade deadline to further weaken
their team.
They are coming off two games where they haven't lost, which hey, that might not sound
like much, but when they had been winless in seven in a row before that and had only
mustard up two, sorry, two wins in their previous 23 games.
Wow.
Yeah.
They're 101 in their last two games.
So maybe this is a team you can't take lightly.
No, you can't take any team lightly in the National Hockey League.
But at the same time, Ottawa, if they play the same structure that they did against Seattle
and have been playing for the last two months, really, I think this should be a positive
outcome for the Ottawa Senators.
Let's talk about Dylan Cousins a little bit because we mentioned how deep Ottawa is up
front, but the biggest thing that changed everything was putting Dylan Cousins on a line
with Brady Kachak and Ridley Gregg.
Dylan Cousins played great with Drake Batherson last year in David Perol and earlier this season.
He was good.
He's a good player.
But what he's done over the last 17 games is incredibly, he's got 18 points and 11 goals
in his last 17 games.
He's shooting the pocket ton almost four shots on goal per game.
He's got over four hits per game exactly for just under four hits per game.
He's a guy that is incredible right now.
What do you think is allowing him to have this type of success?
He's using his number one asset, in my opinion, his shot all like he's scoring goals at
will and just beating goalies clean.
And that's what we need from Dylan Cousins.
We need a shoot first center, obviously Timmy shooting more and leads the team with 30
goals.
So we can't really keep that narrative that Timmy's not shooting and scoring enough going.
But Dylan Cousins is a guy that you can trust to just get the puck on a stick in the
ozone and rip one and beat goalies and he's making that clear that he's still got that
in his bag.
He's scoring on the power play.
He's scoring even strength.
Like he's just done such a great job and I'm glad that he has two line mates in Ridley
Greg and Brady could chuck that are able to know, hey, we got to do the dirty work and
get him the puck and he could finish it.
Yeah.
And Brady could chuck one guy I want to bring up as well.
I'm not sure if there's still some some haters of his out there.
I really hope not.
But he had a play on Dylan Cousins goal against Seattle that not going to shop on the score
sheet.
But incredible.
The middle lane drive that he showed he took two defense and with them ends up tying
up the guy that should have been where Dylan Cousins ends up ripping that shot from.
I thought that was an incredible play from Brady and really kind of shows the impact that
he's having alongside Dylan Cousins.
I mean, how funny is this, Bill?
Because Brady could chuck.
I get the people are saying he's impacting the game maybe as physically or as dominantly
as he was down the stretch last season.
You know that Brady could chuck on a six game point street right now?
Yeah.
And like we talk about his stats this season, he's still a point per game guy with four
forty two points and forty two games.
So maybe you're not seeing that boisterous Ram Bunches Brady could chuck that you're
used to seeing.
But he's still getting it done and arguably the the best statistical period of his entire
career.
Yeah.
And with the depth that Ottawa has, maybe a part of that is the fact that his ice time
is actually down.
If you look at this six game point street, he's averaging 1739 per game.
He only played 1518 in the game against Seattle.
And he's been in the 15 minute range in three of the six games.
Like he's a guy where typically he's an 18 to 19 minute game guy.
So they're being they're able with this depth to create some some less ice time.
But then you're hopefully going to be able to be fresher for that and hopefully it helps
them out down the stretch there.
But yeah, that line with Ridley with cousins and with with Brady could chuck has been phenomenal
for the Ottawa senators since being put together.
And Ottawa's looking to continue this impressive stretch that they're on with a win against
the Vancouver Canucks on the other side will look at the projected lineups for tonight's
game.

All right, Pillsy.
It's game day for the Ottawa Senators tonight in Vancouver.
It is a nine o'clock Eastern start on prime Monday night hockey.
Always look forward to these broadcasts so many cameras so much quality and we cannot
wait to see what Ottawa has in store in this game against the Vancouver can knocks all
that to say there's plenty of intrigue going in to tonight's game.
Let's jump right into the lines that we expect to see for the Ottawa Senators and of course
there's a big asterisk on the entire decore tonight and here there's no asterisk is up
front.
We'd expect to see the same lineup that took on the Seattle Kraken which means Tim Stutz
law would be centering Drake Batherson and Clodgeroo Dylan Cousins between Brady Kachak
and Ridley Greg Shane Pinto between Nick Cousins and Michael Amadio Lars Eller centering
Oh, have an added Warren Fogel to this.
You can put Warren Fogel there at left wing and Fabian Zetterland at right wing on the
back end.
Thomas Shabbat with Artem Zoo Tyler Cleven with Jordan Spence Dennis Gilbert with Nick
Jensen and I'd expect Linus Allmark again to start in goal asterisk is a side pilsied
you believe it will be Linus again.
We talked about this Jack and I on the live watch party for Seattle.
I think this actually could be a good spot to get James Rimer into a game.
Linus Allmark has played every single game since the Olympic break and then you've got
a rough travel day going from Vancouver back to Ottawa quick turn around and then you've
got two back to backs this weekend and then next Wednesday and Thursday.
So I think this could be an opportunity to get James Rimer in.
He's been sitting for a while.
So I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but also I got no issue if they go with Allmark
here as well.
The real question is going to be how they set up their D-Cord.
Now this is projected how Ross and I think that they will and or should set up the D-Cord.
We've got Shabbat Zube, Clevver and Spence keep them together and then Gilbert likely
going to play and then Jensen probably not coming out of the line up for Matting Palo.
That leads to my locked on player Ross is going to be number 72 Thomas Shabbat.
We need Shabbat to step up here.
He's been a number one defenseman on this team for years.
He's played a lot of time with Artem Zube in the past and he's been playing really good
hockey as of late in the last four games.
He's got five points, only the game he didn't have points was up against Calgary Flames.
He had two assists in that last game up against the Seattle Kraken.
He's skating smooth.
You're seeing him on the power play.
He's got a lot of ice time in the last four games as you're seeing here 24 minutes and
55 seconds time on ice per game played.
Let's see Shabbat really elevate his game here and be a leader.
He's wearing that A on his jersey because he's a leader of this organization.
Now it's time to step it up and elevate your role.
That game against Seattle where Jake Sanderson was hurt in the second period was the most
ice time Thomas Shabbat has had in quite some time and he battled through too because
he took a big hit in the second period just minutes after Jake Sanderson did.
You're hoping that he's all right after that.
He played 26-12 in that game, which was actually the third most that he's played in a game
this season.
I know this is a small sample size, but when Thomas Shabbat plays 26 or more minutes
this season, the Ottawa Senators are three and oh, so keep that in your back pocket.
Shabbat used to play in those big minutes.
It wasn't that long ago where he was among the top five, maybe even top three defensemen
in the league in time on ice like he was playing 28 plus minutes on a regular basis and meaningless
games for the Ottawa Senators back in the day.
This is not something that we haven't seen from him before and yeah, I really think
you should put Shabbat with Zube, keep those guys as your number one pair.
Even though Ross this year, Shabbat Zube, I've only played 63 minutes together and they're
expected goals isn't that great at 44.9% is actually like eighth in as far as defensemen
pairs go for the Ottawa Senators that have played at least 50 minutes together, but I just
don't think you should break up Clevver and Spence.
They've been really good 536 minutes together and a 59.6% expected goals for a percentage.
So I think that is the way that this should be approached.
And not only that, but if you look at expected goals percentage for Tyler Clevver, the worst
pair minimum 50 minutes is Clevver and Zube.
The second worst pair is Clevver and Jensen.
The fourth best is Clevver and Spence.
So I think it's going to be tough for the Senators to keep that pair together because
I think there might be some that say you got to move Clevver with Jensen and there's
others that said, well, why not just move Spence up because he's a very, very good defenseman.
Maybe he can take some extra minutes.
I think it's going to be the story tonight is how Ottawa deploys their decouar without
a guy that leads a team in ice time being available to them.
This is what the Senators are up against.
Who is your locked on player?
Oh, my locked on player.
Yeah, thank you for that.
It would have been Thomas Shabbat.
I think that's an easy one for everybody going into tonight's game.
We already talked about Dylan Cousins.
I'll leave that be even though this is as close to a home game as he'll get for his old
man to come down.
He's at the game in Seattle.
He'll be there in Vancouver up in the Yukon, right?
So I'm going to go with Tim Stutzler because 12 game points streaks impressive as it is.
He hit the 30 goal mark and he's going to probably
knowing Timmy's personality.
I know it's not the same position or anything,
but he's going to take it on his shoulders to be as impactful a player with Sandy out.
How can I make up any sort of downfall from that?
So I think that you're looking at Tim Stutzler as a player tonight, especially on the power play
where they're going to need to work on the on the half wall.
Maybe a little bit more than they do in the past.
Tim Stutzler's going to be my locked on player to watch because we already talked about how
only Spetsa, Alfredson and Tim Stutzler have had point streaks of 10 or more games in a single season.
Well, both Spetsa and Alfie in those two had one that was 10 games.
So Tim Stutz is the only player in Sense history to have multiple point streaks of 11 or more games
in one single season.
So let's see him bring that to as high as it can.
I think the first one was 13 games, right?
Yep.
So he can tie that tonight and I say he does it.
Let's see Timmy go two point Timmy tonight.
Maybe a goal in an assist rural Timmy superstar.
Give him one cookie on the power play and just just cook at even strength would be fantastic
for me.
So I'm going Tim Stutzler.
You've got Thomas Shabbat.
And here's what the Vancouver connox are going to throw at you in tonight's game.
And no, that was not a mistake on the D core on the left side.
We'll get to that in a sec.
Elias Patterson is their number one center with Niels Hoguelander and Jake DeBrasch on the wings.
Second line is basically the return for Queen Hughes line with Marco Rossi at center
and Liam Ogren at left wing.
They'll be complemented by Brock Besser.
The third line at two Ratu with the Vander Cain and Drew O'Connor.
And the fourth line is Teddy Bluger with Max Sassen and Linus Carlson.
On the back end, it's Elias Patterson.
No, not that one.
They've got two Elias Patterson at left D with Philip Roneck.
Marcus Patterson at left D with Tom Walander.
And the third pair is Zee Boyum with Victor Mancini.
In goal, expect it to be Lankanin, Kevin Lankanin.
He's a very hot and cold goalie as most backups are.
But with that, your damn go out extended period might even be shut down for
the season if I'm not mistaken.
Yes.
He's been their guy for an extended period now.
So we'll see how he does in goal.
And then Nick Tollo Pilo will be the backup.
Their injuries include Philip Heel, Shocker,
Thatcher Demko, Shocker, Derrick Forbert,
and Pierre Olivier Joseph.
They did just claim Curtis Douglas off of waivers,
former Belleville senator.
You might recall his fight with Curtis McDermott in the first game of the regular season,
where he fed him his lunch.
Be curious to see if Douglas gets in to this game.
But Vancouver is a team with not a lot of depth.
And not a lot of high end talent either.
You could say Patterson's got high end talent.
I'd be hard pressed to argue that.
But that talent has not turned into production of late.
However, he will be my lookout player.
This is the forward Elias Patterson.
Need to clarify.
I can't believe they have two.
It's not even like if you type in Elias Patterson,
a hockey reference on Google,
the defenseman comes up first.
Like, is that not say how far the forward Patterson has fallen?
Only 13 goals and 38 points this season.
These minus 19 should note,
Sky still leads a team in points this season.
Tim Stutz has 30 goals.
Elias Patterson leading the connox with 38 points this season.
But he is dangerous every time you have to be aware of him.
The one thing that I think Ottawa can take advantage of about Patterson
and for the most part, the sentiment on the Vancouver connox is face-offs.
I know it's not to be all end all,
but Elias Patterson's at 46% this season, that's awful.
So we'll see.
We'll see if they can take advantage of a team that, frankly, they should be.
Absolutely.
And Elias Patterson has missed eight games as well.
And he still leads with 38 points on his team.
So they're not producing a lot of offense.
That's why my lookout player is going to be Jake DeBrusc,
a guy that's second on the team in goals with 14.
He's got 32 points also, a minus 19 though.
So not great in that category.
He was on a three-game point streak that ended in their last game
up against Winnipeg Jets, but he did have four points in those three games.
And that was a guy when we were looking at trade targets.
I was considering that could be someone that the Ottawa Senators target.
So maybe in the off season, that's something that they look at.
I'm not sure he's still got a lot of turn left on that deal.
But when you're looking at a team kind of as thin as the Vancouver connox,
he is another guy that's a threat playing on that wing with Patterson.
So we'll see how he does tonight.
And it'll be curious to know what kind of Vancouver connox team we're going to get,
even just completely down the stretch.
When you go through that tough run, two wins and 23 games,
it's about playing for pride, right?
So you have to break that pride early in this game.
Keita Victory is score the first goal.
Get them on their heels.
Get the crowd potentially against them.
Even though we got a we want the cup champ from the Vancouver connox fan base,
which I absolutely adore at the end of a win during that stretch.
So very, very humor-filled connox team.
And if you talk to the fan base, like our guys over at lockdown connox,
they want to tank.
They want to blow this thing up.
So it was time, especially after you move off,
Quinn Hughes, obviously.
And JT Miller, the year before, funny enough.
What did they get from that?
They got two top six forwards in tonight's lineup.
But also their entire third pairs from that trade,
Zey Boyam on the left.
And then they got Victor Mancini in the trade for JT Miller.
Last year, Mancini helped Abbotsford to a called or cup last season.
That's also the wild thing.
It's like, typically you have a good prospect pool if you win the cull or cup.
But it feels like they were on the backs of Arthur Sheelhoffs there.
And then they just traded Sheelhoffs for draft picks in the summer.
So color me confused that how the Vancouver connox have gone about their business
over the last number of years.
But yeah, key to victory is break any confidence that they have early in the game.
And then just like the Seattle game, if you get up,
just play a simple chip and chase and that type of hockey.
Yeah, I don't think this Vancouver connox team is going to be battling
as hard as the Ottawa Senator should.
So just keep that aggressive forecheck, play a physical game.
You're not going to have that same chippy physical game
that you did up against the crack and that's for sure.
No, you won't.
By the way, Clodgeroo, who is sixth on the Ottawa Senator's end points,
would lead Vancouver in sport.
That kind of tells the tale.
On the other side, how did the weekend shake out for the Ottawa Senators
on the out of town scoreboard?
We'll look at that plus more thoughts on the injury to Jake Sanderson.

So you know when we go live.
Pills, everybody's been waiting for more guessing on the Jake Sanderson injury.
It's all anybody can talk about this morning and rightfully.
So Jake Sanderson is such an exceptional player for the Ottawa Senators.
This guy is fourth in team scoring.
He's got 48 points, 11 goals and 62 games.
And that just scratches the surface on what kind of impact he has night in and night out.
What would be your message if you're Nolan Baumgarner running the defense or Travis Green is the head coach
to that group of six or seven going into this stretch where you might not have him for a little while.
Next man up mentality.
And I think like we talked about, it's going to be all eyes on Thomas Shabbat.
This, I mean, this guy makes $8 million a year.
He's been number one defenseman for he can handle big minutes.
He's playing a really good as a plate.
And that was with a partner in Nick Jensen that hasn't been the same guy that he was last
season now. Nick Jensen has been better.
We got to give him credit there by a lot better.
Yeah, but now he gets to play with Artim Zub.
Someone that's more defensive minded.
Someone that he gets.
What about the thought that maybe they don't break up that pair?
I'm just playing devil's advocate, but they haven't been playing really well the last five games.
That's fair, but I think, I mean, Sean Tierney, their analytics guy has
has the same and more information than we have Ross.
And we just alluded to the fact that Pleven Zub is the worst expected goals for
percentage pair on this team so far.
He knows where to just kid.
That's the thing.
And then how far are you moving Zub down the line?
So you are right.
We don't know.
Do you want to get wild?
Spent Zub.
Let's see.
Have they played enough time?
No, probably not.
Definitely not 50 minutes.
No, no, they haven't.
Yeah, so who knows?
That's fair point.
Who knows who knows who.
I would actually be.
I would be very curious to see that pair.
Yeah, but two righties, I don't know.
Yeah, and clearly they value that.
Because I'm sure people are punching their steering wheel,
being like, why are you guys talking about Gilbert in the lineup?
Nicholas, Matt, and Paulo just want to bronze medal.
And he's just been around.
But like, is that really how much they value lefty righty?
That they're going to bring a guy to Vancouver from Belleville
just to have a left hand shot in the lineup to play 10 minutes?
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, I mean, I think it was DJ Smith that told us on our show.
He was like, I don't care really about the hand in this,
except for when it's the puck mover
that has to play on their offside.
That's when head coach Interim head coach of the LA King's DJ Smith,
he was telling us that if you got two guys that are playing their off sides,
but the one guy that usually is transitioning the puck
and moving the puck is on his proper side.
That's where he didn't really care that much if that happened.
So that's where I got to think maybe when you,
if you get spent playing his offside on the left side,
and then Zoob's not going to be the guy moving the puck unless they swapped it,
and have spent say on the right side and Zoob on the left, who knows,
maybe that's what they do.
But I think that's where you run into coaches being like,
I don't really like doing that.
And I would prefer if it's going to be one game here
that where you re-evaluate where Sanderson is at,
hopefully things are better than we think.
I'm trying to be optimistic here, guys,
that you just have Gilbert play the 10-12 minutes here.
But Ross Brandon Piller, not a doctor,
but we do have our guy on Twitter, Dr. Hardjask Ruell,
I hope I'm saying that right.
He is the doctor that Taryn Dregor famously got on
for trying to diagnose Crosby's injury.
And the doctor was right.
The doctor was right.
And that was such a weird thing by Dregor.
Like, who cares if a doctor is like,
hey, this is my experience, this is my knowledge,
this is what I'm speculating based on an educated guess.
Like, what, I don't know what harm that does,
or why that really loved Dregor.
It's like a team manager or an agent.
That's one thing.
Dregor's entire job is speculating.
Exactly.
Yeah, it's every agent.
That was a weird Twitter thing.
But anyways, our guy, our doctor on Twitter
that I follow, go give him a follow as well.
He has good content.
He's saying he can't really see the injury himself.
But when Sanderson goes down straight on a shoulder,
that's usually the type of mechanism
that causes a separated shoulder,
often two to three weeks, or broken collarbone.
But then he adds probably not enough force on this play.
So likely, we're looking at a separated shoulder here.
Two to three weeks.
Which sounds worse than it is.
Like, that's probably best case scenario,
because a collarbone would need surgery.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can broken collarbone.
It's a big problem.
Yeah.
So two to three weeks.
And Martian, I was saying on the post-cast Ross,
if there is one guy that you can look at
and be like, who's going to take rehab and recovery?
Absolutely serious and do everything in their power
to come back.
It's Jake Sanderson.
I mean, this guy doesn't get hurt very often.
And he's going to treat, if possible,
if needed, this rehab and recovery
like it's an absolute must,
that he's going to do everything perfectly
and do whatever he can to come back as soon as he can.
So we'll see what it actually is.
Again, this is just speculating.
We don't really know.
But I'm trying to stay positive.
Because Jake Sanderson is the most important player
on this team.
You could argue, Tim Stutz was most talented.
You can say, Brady Kachuck is the leader of this team.
Both of those things are true.
But the way this team operates
is on the back of Jake Sanderson
being the number one defenseman
that plays top minutes up against other teams,
top players that is on the top power play,
top penalty killing unit.
Like, all situations.
When the goal is pulled for the sense he's out there.
When the goal is pulled for the other team, he's out there.
Three on three over time, he's out there.
Like, this is your guy.
So missing him for even a game,
let alone extended period of time,
changes the entire dynamic of this team.
My guess speculating is that it's going to be a week to week injury.
That's what I think Travis Green is going to say
that it's week to week and we'll evaluate
as things go forward.
And we'll just go from there.
But to further your points on Jake Sanderson,
he embodies the way they want to play defensively.
Closes gaps so quickly.
He's got an active stick.
He turns the puck over and immediately
looks to jump into offense mode
right when there's a turnover.
Like, he embodies the way that the Ottawa Senators
are meant to play.
Now, with the Matt and Palo conversation,
I get that he's a righty.
He might want a lefty to replace a lefty,
but I feel like Matt and Palo is the type of defense
when they can play either side.
I would have really liked to see him jump in.
But that said, Dennis Gilbert's on the best stretch
of hockey of his season of late in the last four games
for Dennis Gilbert.
He's got two assists and he's plus five,
including a plus four performance in the last game,
a big win for Belleville there.
So they're getting a guy at least who's feeling good
about the way that he's playing.
He's also got three shots on goal in his last four games as well.
We know that he's just kind of holding when he's at his best.
He's a steady eddy defensive shutdown guy.
He's not going to replace any of the offense, of course.
But he could be a guy that won't give you negative minutes
and at this point in the season,
it's just going to be on Jake Sanderson and Jordan Spence
to be like, okay, we need to carry a little bit more
of the offensive side of the puck for the Ottawa Senators.
Even Nick Jensen, like Nick Jensen Sneaky
is putting up a decent amount of points this season
for the Ottawa Senators.
And I know defensively he's left some to be desired
earlier on, like he's four points off of the total amount
he had last season and he's played in 22 last games at this point.
Or sorry, 12 last games that he did last year when he played 71.
So maybe they can do it by committee.
We'll see my last question on this.
So Sanderson off the power play.
You expect Thomas Shabbat to move up.
Now, they've actually been playing a 2D structure
on the second power playing recently.
So is it as easy as moving Spence up top
and just adding a forward to the second unit?
Yeah, for me, it's that easy.
And now this gives Etterland an opportunity
to get onto that second power play unit.
And I don't love the idea of two defensemen on a power play.
And especially, like Jack and I were saying,
like Spence isn't really like, he doesn't have that kind of thing.
Like that 2D on the unit and checker
and you just knew that he was the shooter.
Exactly.
And Spence doesn't have that in his bag.
I was trying to remember there was a goal, though,
where Spence absolutely blasted it
and kind of shocked everyone.
And then he's not a net front presence guy.
Like, if he needs to sneak in.
If the play is collapsing towards the net,
like, it doesn't really make sense there.
But quarterbacking power play,
I'm more than happy to have Jordan Spence there.
So I think it is as easy as now.
Thomas Shabbat is on the top power play,
quarterbacking it, top of the umbrella,
and Jordan Spence, same thing on the second unit.
Yeah, I can be curious to see, of course,
but as long as the leaders pick up their end of things,
this should be a game where you're able to get through it.
Wednesday against Montreal sucks without Jake Sanderson.
Play probably the best game of his career.
The last game against the Habs.
But we'll worry about that when we get there.
Ottawa has a chance to really put a stamp on this road trip.
Like Pilsy, come on, like this road trip,
been incredible for Ottawa so far.
You're even in the game, you played the worst.
You're still able to get a point out of it.
This is a five game road trip.
Ottawa is 302 with a plus eight goal differential.
The power plays gone three for 12.
The PK has gone eight for 13.
So they're sorry, 10 for 13.
So they're they're they're even in terms of special teams.
Actually, let's go plus one because they scored a shorty.
So they're able to say that they were able to get a plus one
in short and in special team situations.
They're a team that I think still has more to give.
Like you mentioned, Linus Almark and he has played
all four games on this trip.
He's got an 884 save percentage and he's 302
in his last five games out of the brick.
Well, I'm glad you brought that up, Ross,
because now we've said all you have to do is win games.
We don't care about the numbers.
Be had a 885 or better.
Ironically, not a 884.
You can't script this stuff.
But get ready to face some more rubber.
Linus Almark, because this is not the sense
are not going to be able to suppress as many shots.
Again, not taking away from any of the guys.
They're still going to play that structured game.
But Jake Sanderson does a lot of that work on his own.
And we're going to need the goal tending to be like Tom Shabbat,
number one guy in the television game.
But the goal tending specifically, Linus Almark,
it's time to really get going here.
And you got to shine.
Dude, in their four game road trip,
they have a plus 33 shot differential.
And if you take out that Edmonton game,
it's outrageous.
Same.
Yeah, it's outrageous.
They gave up the most shots they have in the whole season
against that event.
Crazy.
How's the final thoughts on today's show?
Final thoughts for me is another late night game.
Get your coffee going.
Get your caffeine ready.
Get your nap in.
I'm probably going to take a nap, Ross.
I've been really utilizing the naps for the late night games.
Really nice to do that.
So whatever your routine is, make sure you're ready.
We want to see you in that live watch party.
If we're doing it tonight,
haven't got work from Jack yet.
But we also want to see you in the postcast.
Last postcast was an even later start up against Seattle.
And we had a bunch of sense fans in there.
And it was an awesome time with me and Marci.
So let's just because there might be some dark cloud over
sense fans right now.
Doesn't mean we can't stay engaged.
Doesn't mean we can't stay positive.
And we got to look for a big win tonight as well.
Pelsi, there can't be a dark cloud.
There can be one dark cloud in the sky.
But it's not covering the sunshine that's seeping through.
The Ottawa Senators.
Now in their last 11 games,
they're tied for the second best points
percentage in the National Hockey League.
Only the Dallas stars are better.
I've got a final thought.
And then we'll get to the out of town scoreboard
to wrap up the show.
Final thought, Zach Werencky just missed three games
with an illness for Columbus.
And they went three and a half.
It's not like one guy as important as he is,
just like Werencky is to Columbus.
Him being out of line up,
it just gives other guys an opportunity to step up.
So that has to be the mindset for the Ottawa Senators tonight
is being able to take on that extra responsibility
and to be able to get to points.
The Ottawa Senators come into tonight's game.
Five points back of the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins got an overtime loss.
But under those circumstances,
it was probably best case scenario.
Boston was up three nothing
on the Pittsburgh Penguins in that game.
So with a win tonight,
Ottawa would close the gap to the closest it's been.
The closest before that they've gotten to four points.
But now a win tonight,
you get back to three points back of Boston
and you'd be tied in games.
Ottawa's got their game in hand that they'll spend tonight.
So you're not getting much help, right?
Columbus 7-1 and 2,
just like Ottawa in the last 10 games.
Montreal 6-1 and 3.
So you've gained one point on the Habs
in the last 10 games,
but you're still seven points back.
And then, Pilsy, you go into tonight,
you get a win, you're five points back.
I know the Habs play on Tuesday
against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Leafs stink.
But that game Wednesday,
we'll see what happens between now and then.
But that could be a hey,
we turn our attention off of Boston
and onto Montreal type of game.
Ottawa 1-0 and 2 against the Habs this year.
I know the Habs will say
they've won two out of three,
but Ottawa's been able to get four of a possible six points there.
So if you're able to get a regulation win on Wednesday,
I mean, then you're really starting to cook with gas.
But it's going to be really fascinating to see.
And I know that a lot of Sands fans had Buffalo as a team
to potentially catch.
That's gone.
They're a wagon, man.
How about that game between Buffalo and Tampa yesterday?
A true burn burner.
8-7 regulation win with fights,
physicality back and forth goal scoring,
like that was wild.
Yeah, I think I'm going to,
like I caught the five minute highlight pack,
but obviously on NHL.com for whatever reason,
they don't show all the fights and that sort of thing.
This is actually a game I might watch start to finish.
Like that's how that's how it's 15 goals.
Yeah, and poor Jonas Johansson
because they were on the second half of back-to-back.
It was his game.
That's less he was getting that game off,
no matter what.
So he hung in there for all eight goals.
Well, Joey DeCorp just hanging it hung in there for seven.
Can we talk about Joey DeCorp?
I love that guy.
He played the puck like 75 times against Ottawa.
That's what he does.
And normally it's much.
Normally he's good at it,
but this was just not his night.
It was a bit much for sure,
but if you're an auto-assembler fan,
you're saying, sorry, sorry about that.
All right, great show.
Really appreciate everybody for liking,
watching, listening, engaging with it.
