It's Marvel Monday and we're diving into the realm of Asgard!
When the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.
October 9, 2013 | Theatrical Release
Loki is in troubleeeee. Daddy Odin is mad at him. Loki is like I just wanted to rule Earth as a benevolent god. What's the big deal? Odin tells him he should have him killed but instead, he'll just be imprisoned.
Thor is doing Thor stuff, fighting off rock monsters and stuff with his buddies. When he gets back to Asgard, Odin tells him the time has come for him to get over Jane Foster and become king.
Speaking of Jane Foster, she's in London, trying to eat with a dude but she can't stop thinking about Thor. Darcy shows up to tell her that the numbers and graphs and stuff are going nuts! They head to where the readings are happening and it takes them to an abandoned warehouse where there seems to be some sort of weird teleportation portal that is opening and closing at random. She gets sucked into the portal.
While this is happening, Thor is talking to Idris Elba who is supposed to be keeping an eye on her and he's like oh weird, I actually can't see her right now. So he goes to Earth to check on her. By the time he gets there, she's now returned back to Earth. She's shocked to find out that it's been 5 hours. She sees Thor and smacks him a couple times for taking so long.
The cops show up and try to arrest her for trespassing. When he touches her, this like red light radiates from her and sends them flying. Realizing that something is going on with her, Thor grabs her and transports them to Asgard to do some tests. Odin sees what's going on with her and is like oh yea I know what's up. That's dark elf-ish. It's called the Aether. And it's bad.
Thor explains, every 5000 years, the 9 realms align and it causes the portals between these realms to get a bit wonky. So that's how she fell through that portal. But when she interacted with the Aether, she awakened Malekith - a dark elf who is up to no good. They attack Asgard and kill Thor's mom, Frigga, in the process of protecting Jane from them.
Thor immediately wants revenge but Odin tells him to wait - they'll be back because we still have the Aether.
Thor doesn't want to wait. So he asks Loki to help. Luckily, he knows about a secret portal to Svartalfheim, where they will use Jane to lure and confront Malekith, away from Asgard. In return, Thor promises Loki vengeance on Malekith for killing their mother.
While in transport, Thor and Loki have a heart to heart. They yell at each other. They love each other. Classic brother stuff.
There, Loki tricks Malekith into drawing the Aether out of Jane, but Thor's attempt to destroy the exposed substance fails. Malekith merges with the Aether and leaves in his ship.
Loki is real hurt, on the verge of death. Thor is like I'll tell Dad you didn't suck after all. Afterwards, Thor and Jane discover another portal in a nearby cave and reunite in London with Darcy and Jane's mentor Dr. Erik Selvig who was kinda going crazy but he's fine.
Jane knows about Malekith's plan to destroy the universe. Thor starts going through all these portals when Malekith ends up on Earth. Thor returns just in time to help transport Malekith away from Earth where he is crushed by his own ship that was also being transported at the same time.
Thor returns to Asgard, where he declines Odin's offer to take the throne and tells Odin of Loki's sacrifice. As he leaves, Odin's form transforms to that of a grinning Loki. UH OHHHHHHH.

Brother, home-ark Marvel Mondays on the pits. And this is the deck-
Don't want more podcasts, Brother.
Get it, whenever you're ready. Get it.
Thank the peppers in podcast.
Bread cliches
Rhara, oh boy.
No, we jumped to shark a long time ago.
So many races.
Is no one has emailed us, asking why?
No, no, no, it could be that no one cares anymore.
Well, I mean, I those emails should have come in during fast Friday.
I mean, let's be honest.
Did we get any then because that was also though to be fair, we got some positive emails
during fast Friday.
We spun fast Fridays as a one time thing.
We're never going to do this again.
We're being cute.
And now like it just, that's it.
We have a one day a week where we get to watch real movies sometimes.
And when the alliteration works, it kicks the week off.
That's right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For Friday.
We're not just going to watch random.
Well, the other thing was the furious though, it made sense to like kind of bury it at the
end of the week.
Yeah.
Like, hey, you like Marvel?
Yeah.
Hey, listen, it's a big year for Marvel.
Doomstays coming out.
It's true.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
It's not a big issue.
It's all branding.
Disney's about to pick us up as a podcast.
It's crazy.
Don't tell anybody.
But Disney's going to do.
Michael Eisenberg.
Eisner.
Michael Eisner.
Eisenberg.
Yes.
Disney War.
You ever read that book, Dan?
Disney War.
Great book.
Great book, you say.
Great book.
Yeah.
Disney War.
It's about like the succession of Disney in the 90s Eisner.
And it's great.
It's great.
It's great.
So let's talk about what I think a lot of people are wondering, and which is, Rye Guy,
you are now gainfully employed.
It's right.
Congratulations.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Thank you.
And things are serious.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Three death to home where Marvel is anyone.
Sorry.
It has been announced that the way home is returning to the home, our channel, I believe
in April.
Yep.
You do this.
I, Brad, Brad and I have a lot of off-air logistics conversations, but not all of them,
cause this is the first time here.
Yeah.
So.
So are you entering that right now?
What are we doing?
What are we doing?
Because do we press pause on Marvel Monday, so that you can only only have to do one
a week?
What do you want to do?
that's probably the, the most logical option.
I don't want to rule out doing both.
We've taken breaks before though, right?
Didn't we take like a year off
in between Star Wars?
Yeah, Star Wars took a break
because of Captain of Christmas,
the problem is if we take a break,
we don't give you time for doomsday.
So do you want to give the way home beat
the final season to someone I don't have been that beat off?
Yep.
No, no, I don't want to do that.
Yeah, I think so.
For no other reason than it's the way home
is the one property where I kind of make people mad
and I kind of like it.
Yeah, welcome aboard, man.
We'll figure it out.
We'll figure it out.
It's not a problem for the day, Brian.
It's not a problem.
Well, here's what I'll say.
Here's what I'll say.
And granted, it's more of a matter of time than enjoyment
because I mean, this is the best job in the world,
but not to be confused with my current job,
which is also the best job in the world.
If you're boss first.
My what a marvel was going to be that
there's really next to no stinkers coming up here for me.
You know, you guys might feel that way.
I mean, like,
Guardian, I'm going to blind.
Guardian ballers.
Winner soldier, guardians.
And I like, I like Avengers two more than most
and then civil war.
I'm a big.
So it's like, you know, there's, there's some, like, you know,
there's still the occasional Dr. Strange and what have you,
but like, I'm going to reach a point.
Oh my God.
That movie's just fine.
Dude, the first Dr. Strange is top 10 Marvel movies.
It's amazing, amazing movie.
I'm going to, I'm ready to watch all of these movies just for funsies,
but I could, we could watch eight of them in a row,
but that we still have to record them.
Is there within lies the challenge?
You know, we'll figure it out.
Yeah, we'll figure it out.
It's fine.
Yeah, I just feel like I got to do.
Who's going to do it with?
I don't know.
But right guy, like, not me, then who?
Assuming you're, this is later on.
This is a committed.
That's true.
Yeah.
I can't imagine him not finishing knowing it's the last season.
If we, if it was like a win calls the heart situation,
I'd be like, just don't want it.
But knowing it's the last season, that makes that tough.
Um, yeah.
I also like, I broke quick the answer.
I also like still being somewhat connected to the,
it's really great that I get to come on here and do whatever the heck I want.
Yeah.
But it's also nice that I have like some connect to like made for TV hallmarks.
But you're right.
You know, yeah.
It was your original beat is, uh, when does it start in April?
Is it going to wrap up right around Bramble Fest?
Or is it going to wrap up earlier?
April, I want to say, well, yeah, my, it's, I think it's April 19th.
So that could be right around.
To make it to June.
And do that would be exactly if it's 12 episodes.
Yeah.
Holy moly.
Are we doing a finale way home?
Keep in mind.
Or that with that works out.
The ratings for Bramble Fest are going to be off.
He's going to be crazy.
I got a, I got a, I don't understand about the crap.
So, I love for, so, so, so, so, not the crap.
So, crap, just, it's very similar to last year's social.
There you go.
That's on the spring off.
That's right.
Yeah.
Uh, shall we talk about Thor, the dark world?
I'm just kind of a boring crap.
They call me a lump craze.
Well, the pick my hand at the lobster social.
This one originally, uh, premiered at the Likester square down on October.
Well, you, how would you say, I don't know, how would you say that?
Lister, probably.
No.
This was an October release Likester Lichester Lister.
There's no way that's Lister.
I mean, it's Worcester.
Have you seen how they spell Worcester Massachusetts?
I think they were bugging out when they did that.
I think that's the Likester.
All right.
October 22nd, 2013.
And then a couple weeks later, not until November 8th, did we get in the United States?
That makes a little more sense.
Shut up.
It's Lister.
How?
Wait, where's where's the Lister theater?
Or even Lester.
Let's, let's, let's, uh, let's let her say it.
Hold it up to the, hold it up.
Lester.
Yeah.
Lester.
Yeah.
Or Likester.
I just don't know how you get that.
That does.
Yeah.
I mean Worcester in Massachusetts is, is bomb bomb.
They were stripping.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh, and it went a little something like this.
Uh, Loki's in trouble.
Loki.
Daddy in trouble.
Daddy Odin is mad at him.
Um, and Loki is just like, I just wanted to listen.
I just wanted to rule Earth be a benevolent God.
I don't know what a big day is.
Odin tells him, I should have you counts.
Instead, you'll just be imprisoned for the rest of your life.
Very welcome.
Uh, Thor is doing Thor stuff, fighting off rock monsters and stuff with his bodies.
When he gets back to Asgard, Odin tells him that the time has come for him to get over
Jane Foster and become king.
Speaking of Jane Foster, she's in London town.
Pip, pip.
London temple brother.
London temple brother.
London temple brother.
London temple brother.
It's my Honda brother.
Uh, she's in London.
She's trying to eat with a dude, but she can't stop thinking about Thor.
Darcy shows up and tells her the numbers and graphs.
They're going nuts.
So they head off to where the numbers and graphs are originating.
And it has, it takes them to this abandoned warehouse.
And when they get there, there's some sort of weird like teleportation portal thing
that's opening and closing seemingly at random.
It was found first by some children.
You can move cars instead.
They thought they would.
It was just fine.
I never seen those kids again by the way.
No, they probably got lost in the portal.
Yeah.
Uh, she, uh, ends up getting like sucked in kind of to a portal.
And while this is happening, Thor is talking to Idris Elba, uh, who is supposed to be keeping
an eye on her because that's like what he does at his mind's eye.
In my mind's eye, in my mind's eye.
And he's like, oh, weird.
I actually can't see her right now.
So he goes to earth to check on her.
And by the time he gets there, she's now returned back to earth.
And she's shocked to find him there.
Um, and also shocked to find out that she's been gone for five hours.
She sees Thor and smacks him a couple times for taking so long to come and visit her.
The cops now show up and try to arrest her for trespassing.
When they touch her to arrest her, uh, this like red light radiates from her and sends them all flying.
Realizing that there's something going on with Jane Foster.
Thor grabs her and transports her to Asgard to do some tests.
Odin sees what's going on with her with her.
And it's like, yeah, I know what's up with this.
That, that is dark elf-ish.
It's called, it's called the ether.
It's not good.
Thor explains to Jane that every 5,000 years, the nine realms aligned, kind of like a solar eclipse.
Yeah, that's right.
And it causes the portals between these realms.
Be a bit warm.
Okay.
So that's how she ultimately fell through the portal and got connected with the ether.
But when she interacted with the ether, she awakens malacheth.
Who go with that?
Yeah, malacheth.
It's actually lester.
It's a lester.
Malacheth.
Who's a dark elf?
Who's up to no good?
He's trying to make trouble in a neighborhood.
That neighborhood being the university.
Yes.
They're going to attack Asgard and they're going to kill Thor's mom.
Frigga.
Are you freaking kidding me?
So proud of himself.
You liked it?
It was fun.
You write that one down?
No.
No, that's just off the top of the demo right there.
Man, he's locked in.
You should go pro.
So Thor immediately wants to revenge.
Odin tells him, wait, they'll be back because we have the ether.
And he's like, don't talk about Jane that way.
Jane's a person.
Thor doesn't want to wait.
So he asks Loki to help.
Luckily, he knows about a secret portal to Scalvahime,
where they will use Jane.
It's a secret portal to Scalvahime.
That's all I'm allowed to do.
Where they will use Jane to lure and confront Maliketh away
from Asgard.
And then return.
Thor promises Loki that they will get revenge for them killing Mama.
Mama Frigga.
I'm sorry, Mama.
While in transport, Loki and Thor have a heart to heart.
And then they yell at each other.
And then they love each other.
Classic bro.
Classic bro.
Like what happened earlier in this episode?
Where Dan was really mean to me.
And I got sad.
And then we make up.
That wasn't in the episode.
That was me.
Was that before the episode?
That was before the episode.
Okay, good.
Well, it happened.
I literally said a word I can't say on here.
Okay, cool.
So.
Where were we?
Okay, so once they get their Loki tricks Maliketh into drawing
the ether out of Jane.
But Thor attempts to destroy the ether and fails in doing so.
Maliketh then merges with the ether and leaves on his ship.
That is bad.
My good.
He's got the Dark Elf as ether.
Dark Elf as ether.
So Loki's no.
Loki's hurt real bad on the verge of death.
Thor is like, I'll tell dad that you didn't suck after all.
And he'll be obeysed by that fact.
Afterwards, after they have that conversation, Thor and Jane
discover another portal in a nearby cave that gets them to London
tab back to London town.
Look at my hand, brother.
My hand, brother.
Yes, Jane knows because of what happened with Maliketh
like taking the ether.
He knows stuff now.
That's what you need to know.
And knows that that Dark Elf over there is planning to destroy
the universe.
So Thor is like, well, we got to stop that.
So he starts like going through portals.
Maliketh ends up on earth.
Thor returns just in time to help transport him away from earth
through a portal at the same time as his ship also goes through
portal.
Crush him.
Crush him with own ship.
Crush him.
Thor returns the Asgard where he decides to tell dad that
he is not going to take the throne yet.
And also, hey, you should have been nicer to Loki because he
sacrificed his life.
And as he leaves, we see maybe Odin, Washington, Odin,
maybe Odin, what Loki, uh-oh.
An element was for the dark world.
Jurassic Park.
It's the last world.
There was a, you know, there was two post credit scenes,
my friend.
I did, honestly, I did not stick around.
Wow.
Do you want to tell me about them?
They let you skip the credits.
They literally Disney makes it so easy.
Just to go.
Do you want to tell me about them?
First one sets up more Thanos and Infinity Stone stuff.
They bring the death stone to him.
And they.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So one of two stones in one place.
Yeah.
And then in the second one, just, uh, Thor and Adelaide Portman
make out.
Yep.
And a post credit scene.
Oh, yeah.
I know.
So come on, put your leg in the back.
And bring one back.
We're going to, uh-
Let's do it.
We're going to come back.

We're back.
Welcome back.
We're talking about Thor, the Dark Worlds.
All you Dark Elves out there say, yeah, yeah, all right.
We're going to start with the hot take as we were sure.
Exactly.
We're not going to hold back.
I'm going to start with you.
Ride guy.
Ride guy.
What do you think?
Thor, Dark World.
Dark Elves.
First, a first Marvel movie without the paramount logo,
present, just FYI, I didn't, yeah, we miss them.
Didn't see this in theaters.
But I have seen it at least twice before.
Maybe three times.
It's starring Natalie Portman.
Yeah.
The greatest living female actor pound for pound for sure.
And this is often, this is often you're not getting weight
involved in this discussion.
No, it's a metaphor.
This is a metaphor for who was pound for pound the greatest
fighter has nothing to do with their weight.
Very specifically, pound for pound does the weight class.
That was the whole point of pound for pound is a lightweight
wouldn't fight a heavyweight.
Pound for pound.
That's like when Shaq says Alan Iverson is pound for pound the best basketball player
of all time.
He's literally talking about weight, not a metaphor, pound for pound means pound for
pound.
No, it's taking weight out of the equation.
No, it is not.
Yeah, I'll go double for nothing on this and you gotta get me for nothing.
Yeah.
Ride guy.
What?
I think you're misinterpreting the phrase.
No.
The Shaq said pound for pound specifically because if Alan Iverson goes up
and gets him, he's just so much bigger than he is.
Exactly.
Yeah.
So what he's saying is is that per pound, no one's better than the person that
weighs because he weighs so little.
Now, you're saying pound for pound Shaq can never be the greatest of all time.
I'm saying that when you say pound for pound, you immediately bring size into the
equation.
That was my right.
I think I'm right about this one.
I'm not, I'm not, this is, I'm not getting punctured.
All right, pound for pound, often abbreviated P for P is a mythical ranking used in combat
sports to determine the best fighter regardless of their weight class.
So so you're saying how do you interpret that?
Who's right?
From that definition.
But you brought weight when you say pound for pound, you're saying answer the question.
Well, what it seems like is it's saying that it doesn't, it doesn't, it doesn't matter
your past.
So if it doesn't matter, your pounds, why do you say it at all?
Just say they're the best actor.
What does pound for pound mean then?
Brand.
What is to the question?
Ryan, if pound for pound means, then I didn't write the internet, but why wouldn't
you just, you, I said greatest actor and you said pound for pound, greatest actor.
What was the clarification for there?
It's just, it's just a term used to describe who.
The same reason why you would say in boxing, yeah, pound for pound range is to
have it answered the question.
You just say I honestly, I thought that it meant it was taking weight into the consideration
of what off of the definition you just read from the internet, what do you think would
be more right?
Me or Dan?
I mean, it's not like it sounds a bit like, but why say the phrase and more for the right
guy.
All right.
This is often regarded as a bottom.
The internet just hurt you and changed this mind.
This is often regarded as a bottom tier Marvel movie.
And I think the hate may go a tad too far and after this rewatch, but I'm going to tell
you what I think the problem with both of these store movies are in general and this
one specifically.
Well, there's two categories.
All right.
The AI was wrong.
His Google AI was your one internet definition is right.
You read the Google AI one literally originally from boxing where someone might fight in a lower
weight class, but have more skill.
People would argue who the best boxer was pound for pound, meaning adjusted for weight.
That is the actual definition of that phrase.
Another one for the Dan man.
Go ahead, Ryan.
Everything.
That was that's right.
That was gimmick and fringe.
We can talk about this.
I can't believe we had this discussion.
I can't believe I thought it and I can rather completely gas.
I can rather than get it.
You know, I can debate with the best of them.
I'm for pounds.
I'll say that.
I'm a great debate.
I can't.
Listen, so there's two big problems with this movie in my opinion.
It's definitely a little over the place plotting wise.
However, I would say the biggest travesty of it is the CGI is real.
This is the first time Marvel is just like, let's just put him in front of
a green screen.
We'll figure it out later what it looks like and it doesn't look good, right?
I think the second hour narratively of this film is better than the first and more exciting.
It actually has a lot of going for it, but it looks really bad.
However, however, the biggest problem with both of these store movies, but this one
more than the first one because I think people generally like the first one a lot more
is.
Dan, you mentioned this when we reviewed Thor one.
The villain, the big tall metal guy or whatever was totally inconsequential to the plot.
Like, you, these store movies should be dramas.
The intrigue is Thor and Loki and then to some degree Thor and Jane, but by the nature
of a superhero movie by the nature of a Marvel movie, the rules are we must have bad
guy.
We must have bad guys.
Yes.
We must have bad guy.
And that really hurts these films because we do not, and there's going to be plenty
of times, as I've said over and over, where we don't care about bad guy, but especially
in these store movies where the primary conflict is far and away, Thor and Loki, whereas Loki,
by the way, quote unquote, bad guy was bad guy and avengers.
You should really have just stripped away Elf world and all of the metal, you mean the
movie?
You mean the whole movie?
But I'm saying I, that's not to say that I didn't, I didn't like, I enjoyed a lot of
the film and I actually enjoyed the second hour a lot more, especially after they kill
Mama Thor.
I thought all the dynamics between Loki and Thor were going to get inconsistent, but the
villain is just there because it has to be.
I think Thor and Loki teaming up is really cool and I, you know, we're not going to see
Jane for a while more on that as we go along, but there's stuff to like here and I think
if it looked a little better, I think the opinion on it then would have been okay, but
this is better than I remembered it and I do not have it last.
I'll pull up letterbox in a second and tell you where I have it.
But yeah, I enjoyed this more and pound for pound, not the worst Marvel movie brand.
Pound for pound.
I don't care for this one at all.
Here's the thing.
For me, I enjoyed the original Thor movie more as like a funny romantic romp between
Thor and Jane, where these two have a cute, have a fun, meet cute, Thor's acting silly
on water and these two people are falling in love as a homework movie fan.
I loved it for that reason and I got to be honest with you.
I've already forgotten what action happens in that movie.
I only remember them together and having fun, fun chemistry together.
And so this movie is, it's like, it's like, it's like a sequel on a homework channel,
Dan, where we've already had the meet cute and we've already seen the two people fall
in love and I care less and less as it goes on and to force to make, to make, to make
matters worse.
This is the dumbest villain I've seen so far on this year program.
And I'm willing to find a dumber one.
In fact, I'm thinking of one that I think is dumber that's coming later, but this is,
it's a, it's dumb bad guy mixed with a relationship that I've already seen these two people fall
in love and like I love that aspect of the first movie, but I, I lose what I love about
the first movie because it's already happened.
So, uh, turd, turd, I think it's turd is what he's gonna, he's gonna turn, I'm giving it
by turd actually.
I thought about this.
I'm giving it my turd and I am putting it last.
I am putting it behind the incredible Hulk, um, so that's where what I got going on
here.
Yeah, I saw this in the theater and have not seen it since.
In fact, remember seeing in the theater going, well, they, they made a clunker.
They, they marvel finally made one that just, you know, didn't quite hold up under the
weight of the expectation and the weight of the plot.
And it's just, it was bound to happen, whatever, they can't all be winners.
They were batten of thousands and now they're not.
And I literally have not seen it since.
And I've always considered it one of the worst Marvel movies to ever make, be made now.
I watched it again for the first time and I was determined to give it, uh, fresh eyes.
And I was kind of like pumped up to rewatch this movie and be like, it's not as bad.
They made a bunch of bad ones later that are, they're gonna be worse than this movie.
And I'm here to report back.
This is not one of the worst Marvel movies.
This is one of the worst movies, uh, this, this movie is 100% getting my turd.
Uh, I, I, I, I, the biggest shock of Marvel Mondays is how much different Ryan, Ryan
guys opinions on Marvel movies is for my own.
I, I never thought we'd be in lockstep.
There's no fun in that.
But we were okay the first four weeks, but I'm just knowing what you come in, knowing
that, that there isn't a universal opinion on, uh, Civil War age of Ultron.
I think you'll find people firmly in both camps, pretty universal opinion on the dark
world.
Uh, I didn't see that coming.
Um, this movie, uh, makes the grave error, uh, and it's not the last time that, that
Marvel will make this grave error, but it's the first and most egregious where the bad
guy exists to take over the entire universe, um, we don't, we don't need it.
Guys, even in the Avengers, it was just New York City.
I know that they're going to take over the whole planet.
I understand that.
But even in the Avengers, it's New York City, right?
Like if Hulk can exist, if Thor can, if the first Thor can exist in a world where
it's really just trying to protect a planet, the dark elves and the ether with the realms
aligning, you've lost everyone who cares in the room.
Like it just is so bad.
And yes, the 10 man at the end of Thor one is bad, but he's inconsequential.
He shows up at the very end and that's it.
This is a bad guy that's supposed to be lurking the whole times played by the venerable
Christopher Eccleson, who's an amazing actor.
The leftovers doctor who, and he is just so useless in this movie, the only person having
fun in this movie is Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hiddleston is chewing scenery throughout
this movie and having a blast is low key, that complex kind of trickster that low key
is everything else about this movie is a snore or a grown or an eye roll.
It's a really tough watch.
It's as bad as these movies get I'm like, I have some very strong feelings about Guardians
of Galaxy two being terrible.
I have some very strong feelings about Ant-Man, Quantum Mania being terrible.
I have some very strong feelings about the eternal being terrible.
I have some very strong feelings about the second Doctor Strange, Multiverse of Madness
being terrible and this movie.
Those five movies I tend to hold as real stinkers.
I'm fascinated to give them all another watch.
Upon the rewatch of Thor the Dark World, it is worse than I remembered it being and I
got to be honest, that stuff about it not looking good, that does matter.
Ryan is not wrong.
They hired Alan Taylor to direct this movie.
He had never really directed a feature film of this magnitude.
He was known for directing Game of Thrones and he's amazing at directing Game of Thrones.
He's gone back to direct, not in the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon.
Some of these others, I believe, this gets away from him quickly.
The movie clearly, I remember because I saw it in the theater, was shot to maximize 3D
effects and you can tell.
It's not like the movie looks too deep at it.
It looks bad in a way that they're trying to lean into the gimmick.
So it is plot wise, it's bad, the bad guys are snoozer and then it looks really bad.
And so that's really unfortunate.
This is last, it's last by a mile.
It's just not even close.
I'm just kind of surprised you.
Right.
Which bad guy do you like more?
This bad guy or Red Skull?
That's red skull for sure.
I know you're a low on red skull.
I just find red skull boring.
And I didn't like the design as much as you guys did, but no, I mean, that's a far
in a way.
Again, I'm for someone who's higher on this movie than you are.
I'm saying that this villain is totally inconsequential.
But to dance point, the first one was actually inconsequential where this movie is telling
you this villain is important.
That's right.
I'm still just calling him inconsequential.
The tin man is just burning holes through people in the small town and it's like, I don't
care about this, but okay, whatever.
And that's still a good movie.
This is from the opening scenes.
We're hearing an oral history of the Dark Elves and we are supposed to really care about
the mythology of this dumb, like, like nefarious group of people that's trying to ruin not
our city, not our state, not our nation, not our country, not our continent, not our
worlds, not our galaxy, give me one more.
Our universe, I can't, can't, won't, sorry, hard out.
Where do you have this movie?
Where?
Yeah.
I have a fifth.
Fifth.
What are the ones below it?
Six.
I have a Hulk six, first Avenger seven Iron Man three.
Hang up on him.
Hang up on him.
Hang up on him.
Avengers and Iron Man three lower than this movie.
No, the first Avenger, the Captain America one.
That is pound for pound the worst thing I've ever heard.
No, I don't think you understand how the phrase works.
We're back.
All the fields, what, what you got, but I was sad in 2013 because I thought this would
be the movie where Natalie Portman would become a superhero.
So I was bummed out then.
But alas, don't worry, it happens in love and thunder, another trash movie.
We'll get there.
Can't wait for it.
If you, if you like my list now, just wait.
Oh my god.
He probably likes love and thunder.
I'm looking at a love and thunder.
I'm looking at a poster on the door across from me.
That's embarrassing.
I look at it every time we film as a love and I've seen where you get from eBay monthly
and that is embarrassing.
Yeah.
I'll take a picture of a brain you can talk.
Okay.
The coach are funny in that movie though.
I love the goats.
Oh my god.
Those guys are hilarious.
Let's wait for it.
I, I couldn't remember if I had seen this movie before and then I saw the kids looking
at the portal thing and the thing.
I really liked that scene, like the excitement of the kids just watching the portal like
open and close and random things falling through it.
I liked it and it was memorable for me clearly because I remembered that scene.
I didn't remember anything else about this movie, but I didn't remember that scene and
so also I thought of this.
You ready for this?
I'm ready.
Okay, so I thought of this and I want a, I want full credit for this for something that
I can't open.
Oh my god.
Here we go.
Low, low key is low key, having more fun than everyone else.
All right.
That's a terrible pun.
Second of all, he didn't think of it.
Third of all, he didn't, he didn't actually think that that's true.
And then I said low key was having more fun than everyone else and then Brian said you
should say low key and then Brian says I'm stealing it.
That's what actually happened there.
Brand doesn't even like Loki in this movie.
You don't like Loki in this movie?
True story.
I don't.
High key.
You don't like low key.
High key.
High key.
I don't care for Loki overall.
What would you give him on a scale?
One to 10, six, seven, I, oh my god, no cap, brother, you guys are so cool.
Oh, damn, that was a, that was a layer, yeah, pound for pound, it was, you're right.
Yeah, Chris O'Dowd feels, Chris O'Dowd gets a scene early in this movie where he's James
Dates, he gets to play the an inviable role of being the guy that dates Jane after Thor.
He's really funny.
Chris O'Dowd had a moment there in the early 2010s where he was getting a lot of parts.
He's one of my favorite favorite underrated movies called Calvary with Brendan Gleason.
He was in Bridesmaids and he was, people were hiring him to do this stuff and I wish he'd
gotten more time.
I would have taken at least 10 more scenes with that guy in it.
He's really funny.
Best scene of the movie was the date gone wrong at the beginning with Jane.
That's fascinating.
We all want more time.
I actually said all of that, start before recording and then Dan took all that from me.
Well, I said, if you're going to take mine, I would just take whatever's left.
I can't take it from you.
You get to go first, Brian.
Well, yeah, but then I, yeah, and then I said, why don't want anymore?
Let's take a break.
We'll come back.
We'll get to the way what the, uh, in a one-a-marble here on, take the whole pound for pound for
pound.

Having the right people in your corner for life's biggest milestones makes all the difference.
Like a friend who's there when you're house hunting or checking out a new ride, state farm
is there too, helping you choose the coverage you need.
With a state farm agent, you know someone is there to help you along the way.
And with so many coverage options, it's nice knowing you have help choosing a plan that
fits your needs.
So you can continue celebrating all of life's milestones.
Like a good neighbor, state farm is there.
Arguably, yeah, come for pound.
So what are you saying?
So when you say pound for pound, he's saying, that's just a narrow, well, pound, it doesn't
matter.
A pound for pound rankings.
When the UFC does them, it doesn't matter.
The weight class.
They're just telling you who they think the best fighter is.
So like regardless of pound, but what they're saying there, I know what you, I get what
you're saying.
What they're saying is is that this is the best fighter, no matter what, how much they
weigh.
Correct.
And the reason they say pound for pound is because they want to delineate weights as an
argumentative or as a point of argument, they're not discussing.
Correct.
So but their weight is still being brought up in that discussion.
Yeah.
That's one of those things that I'm being serious here where like the how people use it
has nothing to do.
You'll hear people use that phrase in regards to any.
Yeah.
You don't think her weight matters is what you're saying.
All right.
It's time for the weight world where we talk about the things in this movie that we didn't
think make sense.
Let's go to you.
Ryan.
All right.
Does as guard not have TV because Mama Thor, she goes into a low key cell and she's
like, I've done everything I can to make this more comfortable for you.
But she's just given him a bunch of books.
Correct.
Give him the first season of Dawson's Creek or something like, you know, it's like, like
it.
So I just felt like she wasn't there's no flat screens to be found in Asgard.
They don't have any comfortable furniture either.
Yeah.
There's a lot of angles in Asgard.
Boring place.
Low key says in English at one point to I don't know if it's the big bad.
It's like, I think it's the big bad henchman monster guy.
He says, like, he's in a cell in the big like jail break scene, a lack of a more app phrase
that's happening.
And low keys like down the hall to the left or whatever he says, but he like down the
hall to the left, but he says it in English.
And this monster does not speak English like as no way to understand him.
And so that was, that wasn't that wasn't a wise strategy.
Last one.
I had zero recollection of Zachary Levi being in this.
It's a bit hard.
He's got like three scenes.
And like, this is like, you know, we talked about, uh, uh, Ejus Elba on the last film
and we mentioned him earlier.
He's in less of this movie than he is in Thor one, but I took that as like, oh, he was
becoming a bigger star.
And so he was like, I'll show up and I want a tad more personality.
Like, I have no interest in being in this film, but like Zach Levi, I feel like he should
talk to his agent, both then and now more so now, but like Chuck had just wrapped.
I feel like he could have done better.
No, he's not getting rules now.
It's not a new agent.
He's not getting rules now because he's conservative per him.
That's what I mean.
Well, I mean, he should probably talk to his agent about his about his rep.
Yeah.
But, um, but yeah, I just thought he could have done better in 2013, not a thankless
part.
He kind of gets a hero moment, but he like did Chuck and then Chuck went off the
air.
What?
Probably.
I think it was 2012.
And this is 2013.
Okay.
So yeah.
I don't know.
He was a TV on a TV show.
I don't know.
Be getting into Thor.
Yeah.
He just will never see him again.
I mean, I'd brand.
You're the wrong guy to ask because you didn't even know there was a post credit scene, but
like, I don't think we ever see him again.
No.
They don't even bother killing him.
Let me go play Shazam.
Shazam.
Shazam.
Shazam too.
I've heard bad things.
Shazam too is pretty terrible.
Yeah.
Shazam.
Yeah.
Fun.
Yeah.
Fun time.
Um.
So I like this movie starts off with with the long with dark elves.
Guys, we with someone should have gone back to the drawing board.
Like you can't expect us to take it seriously when the big thing is the dark elves.
I chuckled.
I laughed.
Yeah.
That's never what you want.
When you're explaining as they get the funnier they are, dark elves, dark elves.
Um, the battle scene at the beginning where Thor and his, and his buddies are, you
know, fighting rock monsters and stuff, like he does the thing and the rock monsters are
hurry.
Rock monsters really big.
And Thor is like, well, and the rocks go everywhere.
And his buddy is like, you could have done that the whole time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What but you're wasting everyone's time.
In life.
You're wasting everyone's time when you can just go, have it up, up, up, up, up, up,
you, and cause giant explosion of whoever's in front of you.
You're wasting everyone's time, and his, I guess cause you're bored.
And you just want to see, like, if you can do, I don't want to use the hammer thing
unless I want to do it all the time.
I don't want to do the hammer thing all the time.
It was just going to be done so quickly, if he just wanted to do it, we have that.
I don't want to use the hammer all the time.
Hammer all the time.
That's good.
Thank you.
Yeah.
That's all I got, data.
Yeah.
We find out that Jane sold her gave away
all of her equipment after his Thor one.
And I, like I couldn't stop thinking about it all
and making some movies boring,
but it's like this woman who's committed her life to science
makes one of the biggest discoveries
in the history of science at that time,
falls in love with Thor and is so heartbroken
she quit science.
No, no, there's no world where she's just like,
I can't, I can't science anymore.
I can't do it.
How do you expect me to science into these conditions?
I couldn't believe it.
The only worse than that, especially since the first movie ends
with her really science thing.
That's right.
Science thing more than ever before.
And then we turn down she quit science.
And then, you know, notably missing from the Avengers is Jane.
Yes, you know, Thor can't come see her,
can't communicate with her, shows up on planet Earth,
fights in New York City, leaves, doesn't ever talk to her.
And I don't even remember the line anymore
because I watched this movie two weeks ago.
The one line that they commit to giving you
as to why Natalie Portman, they couldn't afford her
for the Avengers is one of the biggest irls.
Like, I feel like he said like he couldn't risk getting distracted.
It was so stupid.
It was either that or it's a very generic.
I didn't want to put you in harm's way type of thing.
It's the worst.
It is the absolute.
The movie was bad as it stood.
If this was a good movie,
that explanation would have still been really bad.
You want to know how Marvel doesn't care
about the Thor property at this moment.
They do when Ragnarok becomes a hit.
You know, like we know they don't care
about the Thor property is that this whole thing
where they paid so much money
to so many people to be in the Avengers.
Natalie Portman is Jane on a FaceTime call.
Can't do it.
Can't possibly he's up there in this floating ship
just like they're all arguing.
He's just like you up.
Jane, what up bro?
Jane, I've finally been able to repair the rainbow bridge
or whatever and I'm coming back
and I don't have time now because Loki is out in the bubble.
Like she would understand all that.
She knows who Loki is.
If anybody understands how powerful Loki is,
it's Jane.
She would have maybe helped out in the Avengers.
She'd have been a great addition.
Stellen Scarsgard, the old guy from Thor,
he's in the Avengers.
What the f, man?
You can't get her to show up and be like,
no, Thor means business.
I quit science because of him.
Like, what you can't do that?
It's terrible.
Hey, Jane, Thor said hi.
This is a weird week for me, but he didn't say hi.
This movie begins the endless cycle
that is the worst part about Marvel,
which is no one can ever die when we find out
that Odin is actually Loki.
I love Loki.
I would have been totally thrilled
if they actually killed him at the end of this movie.
I think it would have been,
would have shown that they mean business,
but they don't mean business
because Loki is going to be around a long, long time.
And I loved him.
And I loved him.
It was really good.
It was good stuff.
And last but not least, my kids were watching this with me.
They had never seen it.
The way you know a nine-year-old hates the movie
is if they want to talk to you about literally anything else
or they keep asking you why things are happening
and they don't like your answer
because I can't explain it.
During the big final showdown of this in this movie,
where we're supposed to be really hanging on edge
to see if Thor can save the world from the dark elves,
we're in the middle of all this action
and there's a lull and my kid goes,
Dad, do zebras grow back their hair?
And I don't know the answer to that question.
And it's a great question
and I think it's more worthy of our time than this movie.
I don't know.
I don't know if they do,
but you know what my kid who should have been wrapped up
in a comic book movie grand finale was thinking of
at almost 10 years old, zebras,
where are they at with if their hair gets shaved off?
Is it grow back or is it just a one coat?
That's all I got.
What are your thoughts on that, right guy?
I pound for pound.
I would think it has to grow back, no?
What do they lose it?
I mean, if someone took like, you know,
like a haircutting kit to a zebra,
I would imagine they'd lose it.
Oh, haircutting kit.
That's interesting.
I got brought my whole kit.
Do you want like a seven-dard?
Easy, bro, I got a nice little Christmas present for ya.
Want this?
I got to hit him up with a tapered bald fade.
Oh, the Stanley cameo is also a D minus.
I don't even remember it.
Where was he?
He's in the ward in the Asylum Ward.
Very briefly.
It's not here.
Put him in Asgard.
That was so funny.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's not really like kind of sad.
Yeah.
Given what happens to Stanley at the end of his life.
Yeah.
That's bad.
That's sad.
All right.
Well, let's get to what a marvel.
What a marvel.
You know, do we, do we, do we discuss things
that we're thinking about?
Raga?
Yeah, I mentioned it earlier.
Like, the way we're watching these,
it feels like we're, and we know we are,
because we know how many we have to watch.
We're so early into this process.
But in real time, when these were releasing,
you know, when we do win or soldier next week,
that was brand correct with my math is wrong.
That's five to six years in the making.
Whereas I'm like, whoa, we're already at win or soldier.
This is the top five Marvel movie.
So, and then looking at the list of everything that's the come,
I'm like, really excited.
Again, none of this has been worked.
They're Marvel movies.
They're really fun to talk about, et cetera, et cetera.
But like, it just feels like we blanked
and we're now at like where Marvel has really hit its stride.
And that's quite marvelous.
It's like it's like it's our kids.
Lincoln, you miss it, you know.
Yeah, you'll go to the end.
Amen, brothers.
I have a question.
I wanted to get your thoughts on this.
So that police officer went to arrest her for a trespassing.
Yes, yes, yes.
It touches her to arrest her.
Boom, right?
Fly back.
Is that it?
Is do they give us no longer under arrest?
Do they do they give up?
They're like, well, I guess that's that.
We did our best, you know, or do they at some point show back up
and be like, hey, this one's for our body who you exploded
because the police or notorious for just letting it go
when one of their own classes, you know, hurt by explosions.
So they don't get into that.
But I have to imagine at some point, after this movie wraps,
there is a knock at the door.
And it's like, hey, you got to do time for the trespassing
in the exploding of our brother.
Well, she hasn't lived in the United Kingdom.
So maybe they're probably not going to cross, you know,
they're not going to get on a plane to arrest her
for explosion syndrome.
Do you know they can all arrest her for explosions?
And I mean, it never, it's never come up.
Explosion syndrome.
I feel like, yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, yeah, they just, it's kind of like I answered it.
They let me go.
Yeah, you crushed it.
They let it go.
Dana?
Yeah.
So after the failed experiment that was the Ed Norton Hulk,
basically Marvel launched with Iron Man Captain America
Thor, and they, they, they greenlit sequels almost immediately.
They built the phases around the Avengers,
being the tent poles and these three characters
getting sequel after sequel.
Both Iron Man one, I mean, Iron Man and Captain America
basically have three movies in under five years.
After Thor the Dark World, Disney and Marvel basically
were like, what if we took the temperature
on Thor's standalone movies for a while
because we don't get another Thor movie I don't believe
for at least four years, if not five years, 2017.
I believe it's 2013 to 2017.
Is that about Ragnarok?
Yeah, that's 2017.
And Thor Ragnarok, as we know, we will not discuss
in, in full till later, was a huge swing.
Tyka Wattiti, New Zealand comedic director brought in.
Thor is kind of a bumbling jock, like a complete,
almost rewrite of the character.
So I, I'm just fascinated as to, it's a Marvel to me,
what a Marvel, that's the segment.
It's a Marvel to me, how Thor became kind of like secondary
in the Avengers, I believe because of this movie.
I can't prove that.
But Thor becomes not, but gets put on the back burner.
For, yeah, for standalone, I would say by the time
we get Guardians, it blows up.
Sure, there's, there's two more Captain America's before there's a Thor.
Yeah, and I'm not here to, I, I'm agreeing with your overall premise.
But what I would say is in the terms of the story,
by the time we get to Infinity War, specifically, Thor is still pivotal to those plots.
But I, I, from the business of Marvel, I'm agreeing with you.
Yes, clearly, they take a step back.
But they, it seems like Thor becomes their rewrite, like they can rewrite him
to do whatever they need him to do.
Iron Man is Iron Man, Captain America's Captain America,
Mark Ruffalo Hulk is Mark Ruffalo Hulk, Thor can kind of be like,
what if we make him fat, what if we make him dumb, what if we make him smart?
And these first two movies aren't like that.
They're very, and Avengers are very uniform in what Thor is like.
And then they decide he's the guy that we can move the needle around
to make the rest of it work.
So I agree.
Yeah, what we did, everybody,
we're going to find out a little what happens next with Captain America.
It's winter time.
And he's a soldier.
Yeah, he is.
The winter soldier.
He's not the winter soldier.
No, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just the,
I'm also pretty sure it's spring during that film.
Yep.
Well, they should figure that out.
The title is a twist as to who the winter soldier is spring.
Come on.
Have you not seen it?
I have frickin' no.
It is a frickin' no.
I don't know, man.
I go into every one of these now, being like, I don't know.
Just stay after the credits.
Yeah.
Every time.
We'll see.
It depends on how quick, how much I hated, you know, the dark elves, and I'm ready to turn
my TV off.
It's real bad.
Well, we did, everybody.
Congratulations.
That's coming back next week for another one until they moved the first to wish you
well.
