The Pentagon has officially confirmed the deployment of thousands of troops to the Middle East. 

The prime minister is planning to hold another National Cabinet meeting next Monday to discuss fuel supplies across the country.

And industrial action at the ABC has wrapped up after more than 1,000 staff walked off the job over an impasse around pay and conditions.
