Joshua 11–14
The Conquests of Joshua; Kingdoms Destroyed by Israel; Allotment of Land to the Tribes of Israel
Now, when Jobin, king of Haasor, heard, he sent to Jobab, king of Moran, and to the king
of Simon, and to the king of Azif, and to the kings who were by Sidon the Great, to the
hillcountry, and to Rabah, opposite Kenara, and to the Plain, and to Nafador, and to the
coast dwelling Canaanites on the east, and to the coast dwelling Amorite, and the Hevites
and the Jebiusites, and the Parasites, in the mountain and the Ketites, those under Harman,
in the land of Massafa, and they came out, they and their kings with them, as the sand
of the sea in multitude, and horses in very many chariots, and all these kings gathered
and came to the same place, and encamped at the water of Moran to fight with Israel.
And the Lord said to Jesus, do not be afraid before them, for tomorrow at this time I will
deliver them, routed before Israel, you shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots
with fire. And Jesus and all the military men came upon them at the waters of Moran
suddenly, and they fell upon them in the hillcountry, and the Lord delivered them into the power
of Israel, and as they smote them, they pursued them as far as Sidon the Great, and as far
as Masaran, and as far as the plains of Masak to the east, and they cut them down until
not one of them was left to survive. And Jesus did to them as the Lord commanded him,
he hamstringed their horses, and burned their chariots with fire. And Jesus turned back
at that time and took Hazor and its king, and Hazor was earlier chief of all those kingdoms,
and they slew everything breathing in it with the rapier, and utterly destroyed them all,
and nothing breathing was left in it, and they burned Hazor with fire. And all the cities
of the kings and their kings, Jesus took and killed them with the edge of the rapier,
and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord instructed. But all the cities
fortified with mounds as real did not burn, but Jesus burned only Hazor, and the sons of
Israel appropriated all its spoils for themselves, but they completely destroyed all people with
the edge of the rapier until he demolished them. They did not leave anything of them breathing,
as the Lord instructed Moses his servant. Moses also commanded Jesus in like manner,
and so Jesus did. He did not transgress anything of all that Moses instructed him.
And Jesus took all the land, the hill country, and all the Nagab, and all the land of Gossom,
and the plain and that toward the west and the mountain of Israel, and the low regions
by the mountain, from Mount Hakell, and that which rises up to seer, and as far as Balgod,
the plains of Lebanon under Mount Hermann, and all their kings he took and destroyed and killed
them. And for rather many days Jesus made war with these kings, and there was not a city
that Israel did not take, they took everything in war, for it was through the Lord to strengthen
their heart to meet for war against Israel in order that they might be utterly destroyed,
that mercy not be given to them, but that they be utterly destroyed, just as the Lord said
to Moses. And at that time Jesus came and utterly destroyed the enakeem out of the hill country,
out of Kebron, and out of Debeer, and out of Anaboth, and out of all the race of Israel,
and out of all the mountain of Judah with their cities, and Jesus utterly destroyed them,
and none of the enakeem was left by the sons of Israel, but only in Gaza and in Gath,
and in Asadoth was anyone left. And Jesus took all the land as the Lord commanded Moses,
and Jesus gave them as an inheritance of Israel by allotment according to their tribes,
and the land stopped being at war. And these are the kings of the land,
whom the sons of Israel slew, and they inherited their land beyond the Jordan from the rising of the
sun, from the ravine of Arnon to Mount Hermann, and all the land of Araba on the east. See Han,
the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshban, ruling from Aror, which is in the ravine,
along part of the ravine, and half of Galad as far as Jabok, the boundaries of the sons of Amon,
and Araba as far as the sea of Canaryth, eastward, and as far as the sea of Araba,
the sea of salt on the east along the way of Hasimoth, from Taimon, which is under Asadoth Fazgah,
and Og, king of Bashan, was left of the giants, he who lived in Astoroth and in a drain,
ruling from Mount Hermann, and from Selka and all the land of Bashan, as far as the boundaries of
Ghisuri, and Makati, and half of Galad, as far as the boundaries of Seahawn, king of Heshban.
Moses the servant of the Lord, and the sons of Israel smote them, and Moses gave it as an
inheritance to Rubin and Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh. And these are the kings of the Amorites,
whom Jesus slew, and the sons of Israel, beyond the Jordan by the sea of Balgad,
in the plain of Lebanon, and as far as the Mount Kelka, as they rise to sea, and Jesus gave it to
the tribes of Israel to inherit according to their allotment, in the mountain, and in the plain,
and in Araba, and in Asadoth, and in the wilderness, and in the Nagab, the Ketite, and the Amorite,
and the Canaanite, and the Parazite, and the Heavite, and the Jebiusite, the King of Jericho,
and the King of Guy, which is nearby Thel, King of Jerusalem, King of Khabran, King of Jeremiah,
King of Lakesh, King of Ilam, King of Gaza, King of Debir, King of Goddur, King of Hermath,
King of Arath, King of Lebnah, King of Odalom, King of Makadah, King of Typhug,
King of Hofer, King of Afeq of Serran, King of Hazor, King of Simon, King of Moran,
King of Azif, King of Qadesh, King of Tanakh, King of Magadan, King of Jakkonam of Kermel,
King of Dor of Nafidur, King of Goyim of Galilee, King of Tarsa, all these 29 kings.
And Jesus was rather old, advanced in days, and the Lord said to Jesus,
you are advanced in days, and there is much land left to inherit. And this is the land that is left.
The boundaries of the Philistines, Gessery and the Canaanite, from the uninhabited region before
Egypt, as far as the boundaries of Akharan, to the left of the Canaanites, it is reckoned to be five
satrapies of the Philistines, to the Ghazian and to the Isotian, and to the Ashkalanite,
and to the Gethite, and to the Akharanite, and to the Hevite, from Taimon, and to all the land of
Canaan before Ghazah, and the Sidonians as far as Afeq, as far as the boundaries of the Amirites,
and all the land of Gobli of the Philistines, and all Lebanon toward the rising of the Sun,
from Galgal under Mount Hermon, as far as the entrance of Himoth.
Everyone who inhabits the hill country from Lebanon, as far as Massara Fulf Ma'eem,
all the Sidonians, I will utterly destroy them from the four Israel.
But Pasadon is an allotment to Israel, as I commanded you.
And now divide this land as an inheritance for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe of Manasseh.
From the Jordan, as far as the great sea toward the setting of the Sun, you shall give it.
The great sea shall be the boundary.
But to the two tribes and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to Rubin and to Gad,
Moses gave beyond the Jordan toward the rising of the Sun.
Moses, the servant of the Lord, has given it from a roar, which is on the edge of the Wadi of Arnon,
and the city in the middle of the ravine, and all Mysore, from Maidaba as far as Daibon,
all the cities of Sihon, King of the Amirites, who reigned in Heshban,
as far as the boundaries of the Suns of Amon, and Galadites and the boundaries of Ghasiri,
and of Makati, the entire Mount Hermon, and all Basinites as far as Selka.
All the kingdom of Argon Basinites, he who reigned in Astorath and in a drain,
he was left of the giants, and Moses' smote and utterly destroyed him.
And the Suns of Israel did not utterly destroy Ghasiri, and Makati in the Canaanite,
and Ghasiri's king and Makati kept living among the Suns of Israel, until this very day.
With the exception of the tribe of Levi, no inheritance was given.
The Lord God of Israel, he is their inheritance, as the Lord said to them,
and this is the division that Moses divided for the Suns of Israel,
and Eraboth Moab, beyond the Jordan opposite Jericho.
And Moses gave to the tribe of Rubin according to their districts,
and their boundaries were from Aror, which is opposite the valley of Arnon,
and the city that is in the ravine of Arnon, and all the land of Mysore,
as far as Heshban, and all the cities that are in the land of Mysore,
and of Daibon, and of Bamaf Baal, and of the House of Baalman, and Jassa, and Kadamoth,
and Mephaav, and Kiryath Aeim, and Sibama, and Sarada, and Sior on the mountain of Amok,
and Baith Fogor, and Asadath Fasga, and Baitha Samath, and all the cities of Mysore,
and all the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, which Moses smote,
him and the leaders of Midian, and Yui, and Rokom, and Sour, and Hore, and Robe rulers along side
Sihon, and the inhabitants of the land. And Baalam, the son of Baalur, the diviner,
they slew at the decisive moment, and it became the boundaries of Rubin.
Jordan was a boundary. This was the inheritance of the sons of Rubin according to their districts,
their cities, and their farmsteads. And Moses gave to the sons of Gad according to their districts,
and their boundaries were jazar, all the cities of Galad, and half of the land to the sons of Amon,
as far as Aror, which is before Rabah, and from Heshban, as far as Ramath, by Massifah,
and Botanin, and Manain, as far as the boundaries of Debir, and in Imek, by Tharam,
and by Thanabra, and Sokatha, and Safan, and the rest of the kingdom of Sihon,
king of Heshban. And the Jordan shall be the boundary as far as part of the sea of Canareth,
beyond the Jordan eastward. This is the inheritance of the sons of Gad,
according to their districts, their cities, and their farmsteads.
And Moses gave to the half tribe of Manasseh according to their districts, and their boundaries
were from Manain, and all the kingdom of Basani, and all the kingdom of Agh, king of Basan,
and all the villages of Jair, which are in Basanites, 60 cities, and half of Galad, and in Ashtarath,
and in Idrain, cities of the kingdom of Agh in Basanites, and they were given to the sons of
Makhir, son of Manasseh, and a half the sons of Makhir, son of Manasseh, according to their
districts. These are the ones whom Moses caused to inherit beyond the Jordan, in Erebath, Moab,
beyond the Jordan by Jericho eastward. And these are the inheritors from the sons of Israel
in the land of Canaan, to whom Eliasar the priest and Jesus the son of Naue, and the chiefs
of the paternal families of the tribes of the sons of Israel gave inheritances.
By lot they inherited, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Jesus, to the nine tribes and to
the half tribe, from beyond the Jordan, and to the Levites he did not give an allotment among them.
For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and a portion was not given in the land
to the Levites, rather cities to live in, and Ereas marked off for their cattle. As the Lord
commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did, and they distributed the land. And the sons of Judah
came to Jesus at Galgal, and Caleb the son of Jeffena, the Kennesite said to them,
You know the word that the Lord spoke to Moses, Man of God, concerning you. You and me at Kadesh
Barnea. For I was forty years old when Moses the servant of God sent me, out of Kadesh Barnea,
to spy out the land. And I answered him a word according to his mind. And my brothers who
end up with me changed the heart of the people. But I added to follow closely the Lord my God,
and Moses swore on that day, saying, The land upon which you have tread shall be yours as an
allotment, and your children's forever, because you have applied yourself to follow closely after the
Lord's or God. And now the Lord has sustained me, as he said. This is the forty-fifth year,
from when the Lord spoke this word to Moses, and Israel journeyed in the wilderness. And now look,
I am today eighty-five years old. I am still strong today, as when Moses sent me. I am now just
as strong to go out and to go into war. And now I ask you for this mountain, as the Lord said on
that day, for you have heard this word on that day. But now the Inakim are there, said he's
strong and great. If then the Lord is with me, I will utterly destroy them, as the Lord said to me.
And Jesus blessed him and gave hebron to Caleb's son of Jeffena, son of Kinez as an allotment.
Therefore, hebron became an allotment for Caleb the son of Jeffena, the kenezite to this day,
because he followed closely the ordinance of the Lord God of Israel. And the name of
hebron formerly was City of Arbok. This is the mother city of the Inakim, and the land abated from war.
