Titans Strengthen Defense, Add Offensive Threat

The Tennessee Titans made several key moves in the first wave of free agency to rebuild

their roster on both sides of the ball.

ESPN analysts, Matt Bowen and Pamela Maldonado say the team got better in meaningful ways,

even if they're not contenders yet.

On defense, they targeted their week's secondary from last season, which gave up 28 points

per game and 8.1 yards per pass.

Cornerbacks, Alante Taylor and Cordale Flood bring physical play and disruption to stabilize

coverage.

They also swapped defensive tackle to Vandre Sweat for edge rusher, Germaine Johnson

to boost pass rush, and added defensive end John Franklin Myers for, interior pressure.

That should help star tackle Jeffrey Simmons by drawing double teams away from him.

Offensively, slot receiver Wandaile Robinson gives quarterback Cam Ward a reliable short

yardage target to improve third down conversions, which sat at just 32 percent last year.

The Titans still need work on their interior offensive line at center and guard with more

to come in free agency and the draft.

If they feel those gaps, analysts see a big jump possible next season.
