Tom Elliott slams state government’s ‘ridiculous’ IBAC reform proposal

0:00On the programme on Monday we had the Premier Ben Carroll in the studio. I didn't know then, but I do know now that he's trying to water down the iBAC reforms. The proposal from Ben Carroll and his government is to say that anything that the weak version of iBAC has already investigated, like just Central Islands Royal and Corruption on the big build, can't be investigated again. Now, would you believe, and this doesn't happen very often, the Greens are opposing this, and I support the Greens, I can't believe I'm saying it, but it's true. We're going to speak to Victorian Greens leader Ellen Sandell later on in the programme about this, but it is no good if iBAC needed to be reformed, if it needed extra powers, which it does, to follow the money, to say, well, are they already investigated, XYZ in the past? Therefore, this new version of iBAC can't go back to it, that is ridiculous. The old iBAC couldn't follow the money, it couldn't really complete the investigation, it couldn't, for example, see if $15 billion had been siphoned out of the big

1:03build to go into organised crime. So the new iBAC cannot be hamstrung by anything that the old iBAC looked at, because the old iBAC didn't have the powers to do very much. Now, Ben Carroll, I imagine here, is desperately trying to protect the reputation of Jacinta and before her Daniel Andrews, but if he's good to his word, if he says, I'm different, I am not them, this is a new Victorian government that I leave, lead. Then if we're going to give iBAC extra powers, allow iBAC to go back and reopen previous investigations into corruption on the big build amongst other things. Well, have a look at that, but the Greens are opposing Ben Carroll, and on this I support the Greens. There you go, you won't hear me say that very often, but I'm saying it today.
