The Parnas Perspective — Trump Lies About 9/11 as Documents Expose the Truth!. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Two stories dropped today that could not be a starker contrast. New York City just released 170,000 pages of documents proving officials lied to New Yorkers about the air quality at ground zero. Information survivors and first responders have been fighting to get for over two decades. And on the same day, Donald Trump stood at a 9-11 memorial ceremony and repeated a story about his own actions that day that simply isn't true. One is about a city finally telling the truth. The other is about a president who still won't. Right now, we need to talk about the tale of two New Yorks. The one Donald Trump spoke about today and the one Mayor Mom Donnie is leading today. And if you can, make sure to support this work, subscribe, like, comment, share, get the word out, the more you do, the more people see them right now. Just a lot of people off over my McConnell reporting over the weekend, my Epstein reporting over the past several months and while they're attacking me again, but we will not stop. So if you can, subscribe, we beat Fox News, we're going
to do it again in terms of impressions over the past 30 days. And let's talk about right now the biggest story of today, which is that New York City has released more than 170,000 pages of previously undisclosed records about air quality following the horrific attacks on September 11th. And they show city officials at the time new conditions around ground zero were unsafe to breathe even while they were publicly telling New Yorkers it was safe to go back to work and back to school in Lower Manhattan. Mayor Zohran Mom Donnie announced a release at a news conference today just days before Friday's 25th anniversary. Take a listen to what Mom Donnie had to say about this bombshell release. And yet the devastating truth is that the suffering did not end once the smoke cleared and the dust set. For so many New Yorkers who lived or worked or studied near ground zero and for the thousands of others who worked on the pilot recovering those we lost during the road.
That was only the beginning of years of hardship and illness that would follow. Thousands of iron workers and firefighters and office workers and so many more remember September 11th not just each time we walked the passage of another year, but as Congressman Nadler once said, each time they take a struggling breath, each time they have to swallow a pill, each time another chemo dose is administered. And as the years pass and the human toll rose, we wreck it with the cost of September 11th whenever another New Yorker is stolen from us too soon. Now close to 25 years later more people have died from 9-11 related illnesses that were killed on the day itself. It would be one thing if government had stood alongside survivors and provided them with everything they needed at every step of the way. And yet we know that could not be further from what actually happened. People got sick because the leaders they trusted, lied and told them they were safe to breathe in toxic
and you know who those leaders were? Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City. And the numbers back it up, at least 140,000 people from all 50 states have enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program. 49,000 of them have been diagnosed with certified WTC-related cancers. And Mamdani said Tuesday that even more people are eligible for help than are currently enrolled, including people who live near the site, who were never actually reached and people who have since moved out of New York entirely. It's worth remembering that cancer wasn't even covered when Congress created the health program back in 2011. It only got added in 2012 and only after advocates fought for it. And a study showed elevated cancer rates specifically among the New York firefighters who worked at Ground Zero. Now here's what's actually in these documents. They contain a fraction of the air quality readings taken at Ground Zero at the time but more damning. They include internal memos, including one that's been known as the Harding Memo, sent to then Deputy Mayor Robert Harding. The memo shows city officials were anticipating thousands of possible lawsuits over 9-11 air exposure
and a lack of proper safety equipment for workers. And it laid out legislative options specifically to limit the city's own legal liability. In other words, while people were breathing the air, officials were already strategizing about how to protect the city from ever getting sued over it. People got sick because the leaders they trusted and told them were safe to breathe and talk sick and when a reporter asked them point blank whether they years long delay in releasing these documents amounted to a cover-up, Mamdani did in Dodging. This was multiple mayoral administrations refusing to release documents that New Yorkers were owed. The city says the searchable portal is now live. Anyone can view and download these documents for free. I went through many of them myself. The records were among 68 boxes discovered in a city government office just last year. Now it comes as there's another 9-11 story making headlines today and it's a completely different kind of story. During a ceremony honoring emergency personnel who died on 9-11, Trump once again placed himself at ground zero, claiming that two firefighters physically carried him
out of a building that was set to collapse near ground zero. Now there are a lot of videos going around on the internet by the way, claiming that this was Trump saying that he was at the World Trade Center on 9-11 at ground zero. That's not what he's saying and there's a lot of misinformation being spread especially from folks on the labs who just want to dunk on Trump. He did lie but that wasn't the lie. See in this video clip I'm about to show you, Trump talks about how he went in the days after 9-11 near ground zero allegedly. He went to a US steel building. Now it is true that the US steel building he went to had structural potential structural issues and folks were concerned. Trump lies however suggesting that he was carried out by firefighters literally carried out out of this building. Take a listen to what he had to say. Dr. Walker and no terror can destroy for three months after September 11th the flames
raged in the rubble of ground zero for nine months rescue and recovery crews worked day and night on the site. I want to just thank my people. I took a lot of my, I was building a big building in New York and I took a whole crew down there right after this happened and they were they had no hesitation. Everybody went down with me. We went down as a big group of people. It wasn't too much we could do. I'll be honest it was it was raw and nobody seen anything like it ever. We had other buildings. The United States steel building was creaking really creaking and we thought it was going to fall down. The truth is it creaked a lot. It creaked. It still creaks but it never came down and I will never forget too farman. We thought it was coming down on top of us and too farman. Big strong guys and I'm not the smallest guy in the world. They grabbed me under the arms and got to get out of here and they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do. I'm big. They lifted me up and they started running with me. I said,
fellas, I can run myself but they were amazing but they thought it was coming down. It didn't come down. US steel. The president's own remarks that never actually happened. See, back checker Daniel Dale made clear. President Trump was not in the vicinity of the World Trade Center when it was hit. He was in Trump tower miles away from the towers and nearby one Liberty Plaza which is also known as the US steel building. There was public concern in the days following that one Liberty Plaza could collapse but authorities repeatedly said it was structurally sound and there's not currently any evidence that Trump went into these amid collapse worries much less that he was rushed out carried out by two firefighters. In varying language, he has repeatedly claimed for years he was at ground zero with a large crew of his workers helping with the recovery in the days after 9-11 but people who were on the site never saw him or a Trump organized crew on site and it wouldn't make sense for him to have had access. There are pictures of Trump in the neighborhood in a clean suit but not on the actual site. Trump is lying about what happened on 9-11 and it
has drawn outrage. Absolute outrage from folks who had who knew people who passed away at 9-11 and passed away in the years after 9-11 but he also claimed that he was unhappy that he isn't as famous enough as the person he was honoring today a first responder to listen. Then suddenly a rescue appeared they call him the man in the red bandana have you heard that term the man in the red bandana has become more famous than me I don't like it very unhappy but he's become much more famous than me. He's become more famous than me first responder I don't like it that's what the president said today and his comments are drawing a major firestorm. Now I spoke with Jessica Tarlov who is on the other end of Donald Trump's rants all the time about her new book and more about how she can disagree with folks and still move forward. I want you to take a listen to that conversation but before I do this video is sponsored by Wild Green a company that I really love and work with

Now my conversation with Jessica Tarlov and make sure to subscribe get the word out. Super excited to have Jessica Tarlov on the podcast Jessica so excited to have you here this is different we're not talking to each other I'm interviewing you because there's a big thing coming out next week your book I disagree tell us what is coming out what is the book why do people need to buy it? So many reasons so many reasons well thank you for having me here I guess it is a little different than the raging perspective where we're not listening to our fabulous music before we get going and then delving into the big topic of the day because the big topic of the day is the book Aaron has read it or at least he reported to have read it so we'll test him throughout the next few minutes if that's
the case but I disagree is the answer to the question that I get most in life from Republicans and Democrats how do you do it? Some why do you do it but mostly just how do you do it and this comes from folks who hate Jesse Waters and people who love Jesse Waters and they want to better understand the dynamic they want to understand how I prepare for the show how I can keep calm and by extension how they can do those things too in their lives and so I disagree is really a mashup of a memoir and a how-to or a survival guide to having contentious conversations which is what I've called it and early reviews are good and I hope that you guys will like it too. Well I mean when we talk about contentious conversations the contentious conversation that I have been begging for you to have and for people to see is with you and the president who has over the past year rage that you repeatedly called you a loser us for you to be fired I mean you name it he has come after you how does that
make you feel and how did that play into your journey in this book writing process? Oh you did read the book well also you're just like talk to me every day so you know these things but I actually the first chapter of the book so maybe you only read the first chapter just kidding he read the whole thing um the first chapter is called taking shit for the most powerful man in the world and it's about how complicated processing criticism and especially fielding it from someone like Donald Trump is and I don't want to call anybody a liar for how they recount their experience with the president criticizing them but my feeling and this has been going on for a few years is that it's a lot more complicated than just oh I'm a resistance hero or this can't be anything but upside which I think a lot of folks who vote like me feel about it right that it's a badge of honor you have the people in the world who are you know framing tweets and things like that I I don't feel
that way there is certainly a part of me that feels like I must have been doing a good job and it must have rattled him or hit on something that he knows to be true deep down in that dark dark core or whatever is going on on the in the insides of his body but I don't enjoy it and I think that it's very difficult it comes with it you know a ton of online criticism some the transfers over into the real world with threats and I detail that in the book not like the actual threats but like what it's like for the president to be coming after you while the FBI for instances investigating a threat and how complicated that is especially as a mom of two girls I have a four and a half and a two and a half a four and a half and a two and a half year old you're a dad now you know how it's just different right like there's one thing you and your wife or me and my husband but now
there are little people who are very vulnerable and have to go about their lives too and so I start out with the anecdote around one of his particularly harsh criticisms that happened while he should have been much busier and paying attention to the fact that we were dropping bunker buster bombs on the fordo nuclear enrichment complex in Iran but took time out to play TV critic which is his favorite thing to do and the kind of the big lesson that I took away from it or that I wanted people who read the book to take away from it is that it's okay to be vulnerable and upset and I cried a lot when I was processing history social post and so you know being vulnerable and letting yourself feel all the things is important and then sharing it if it's appropriate like I did in my book and right now I but then also to really focus on the fact that when people can't contend with the
content of what you're saying or the substance they criticize you on style and I've been getting this you know my whole career certainly in TV I don't have a broadcaster's voice to put it mildly and so you know Donald Trump and this criticism in this criticism went after my unindurable voice which I think was a dead giveaway that he didn't actually write the truth social because that feels not like a word that he knows so I don't know if it was like a dance gimme no special or what but unindurable voice and jittery presentation which speaks to another difficult part of having these conversations where you get thrown off right because people are jumping down your throat and that's very intentional for them as well that they're trying to halt whatever it is that you're doing sometimes because they genuinely think that it's garbage yeah but sometimes actually because it's really good right and they want to break it up one of my favorite parts of the book is
when you talk about changing your mind and you're on Fox News you're on a panel of you and for people who often disagree with you has there ever been a moment where they came up to afterwards and they were like hmm I changed my mind I mean no no one's good I changed my mind but they have done it in real time a few times uh Jesse Waters who is kind of the most open I would say about these things you know how kind of can't help but just say how he feels like he likes Abdul Al Sayed he doesn't want to like Abdul Al Sayed but he does but he does and he told everybody so I was having a back and forth with the rest of the crew about the save America act because you know how the right was portraying it just as a voter ID bill and then saying okay 80% of Americans support voter ID Democrats are against it because they want a legalist to vote that was the going branding on it
and I was pushing back saying actually you know Democrats are for voter ID but this isn't a voter ID bill and then I started to know what it was in reality that you needed a first certificate or a passport and actually this was going to affect Republicans more than Democrats because Democrats have more passports than Republicans and I told the story of how difficult it was for me I have two middle names thank you mom for that to actually get my real ID and then I had to go back and forth to the DMV three times luckily I was on maternity leave which I get which we should have a federal standard for so I could keep shoddling back and forth because my documentation didn't match right my birth certificate and my passport are different my old driver's license didn't match then my birth certificate anyway so I'm saying all of this and it dawns on Jesse that I'm right and he's like is that true I was like yeah it's true and he does this thing where he looks to Dana Perino for confirmation like if Dana says that it's true then it really did happen and she nods in agreement and he's like oh like that's not voter ID like well Paul Luea praise the Lord
so things like that happen and then I guess two things that I would mention one there are like the little currents that come from your more social conversations versus the actual political conversations which is why I think it's so important to be engaging with people generally and not just at this high octane moment right where you actually if you live in people's lives you can have an impact on them so just from normal talking about politics and people that I like I've turned folks on to John Assof and you know just saying things like oh he's actually getting a lot of Republican endorsements because he's really good at constituency work you can always get him on the phone and then that infiltrated the conversation again through Jesse where he's like people like John Assof and I was like oh you were paying attention in the break and then the one other thing that I wanted to highlight which I think is important I talk a lot in the book is about how conservatives oftentimes
really do want to have these conversations and that we should lean into them more that liberals are often the ones that don't want to do it and they've you know feel like Trumpism is a moral failing and I totally get that argument and I have made that case myself and I do in the book but Greg got felt one of my co-hosts I talked about in some interviews that he's done and you know just in the course of our relationship or many many years of how important it is to have people in your life whose ideas and worldview he says it as it makes you like lift weights like you want to be working with someone that feels like a real opposing force because you need to see if your ideas can lift weights and also if their ideas can and I think that there's a lot of value in that that we walk around sometimes thinking we've got it all figured out and if you don't put it
up against someone who genuinely believes in something else you don't know if your ideas can lift weights true if people want to buy the book where can they get it everywhere I have a site thing which we can add and I'll link that down below yeah yeah um amazon if you're a bookshop dot org type person in an indie bookshop I've signed copies um through premier collectibles if you want to do that have some events around the country I lots of weight there's an audiobook I was shocked that people wanted to listen to like seven hours of being but apparently if you're a podcaster you should be reading your own book and people like it um so ebook audiobook real book it's beautiful just guitar love thanks so much thank you hey folks thanks so much for watching feel free to add this podcast on apple podcasts Spotify or anywhere you watch or the latest breaking news and daily hits throughout the day make sure to follow subscribe see you soon for more
