I'm telling you, man, I have not felt this good about Iowa in this game. Definitely since we've been doing this show, probably going back at least 10 years. It's been that long since I've felt this good. Is that more about your team or is that more about just all the differences with Iowa State this year? I think it's obviously both, but I feel great about Iowa in this matchup. I do. Matt Campbell's gone too. That helps. He had figured it out. I think Iowa has a lot of advantages. I'll explain some of them coming up. I've correctly picked this game every single two guys. All four years we've done it. I've correctly picked the winner. I think I've gotten all the points, Fred's right too. Hasn't it been, I read this in Leicester Coast column, the points, Fred has been four points
or less for eight years in a row or something like that. It was some crazy number like that. I don't know about that, but I know that it's been tight. I know that every game has been tight the last eight years. I do not think this one is going to be tight. Well, let's talk about it. Let's go. All right, let's go, baby. Who says that brats have to have skin? Literally everyone. Like since the beginning of time. No, but the fairway skinless brot has changed the game. Will you settle this for us? They don't pick sides. I just sell them. If Frank just steal our brats. For over 150 years, one name has echoed across generations, a name that turned imagination into belief. Bringling brothers and born them entirely. And as the world changed, so did we. Because legends don't disappear. They evolve from tradition to reinvention.
Every moment reminds us why this is still the greatest show on Earth. Chris Williams. Chris, Chris, Passal. Two Chris's one network. This is two guys. Resented by fairway, neat and grocery. From the channel Seed Studios, this is two guys exclusively on Iowa everywhere. Happy Wednesday night. Welcome to the show. It is the ninth of September, 2026. We are always presented by our friends at fairway, neat and grocery. We are in the channel Seed Studios. It is CYHOC Week. Give our picks for the game, breaking down the game. We'll preview the entire college football week and coming up here in the next hour and
a half. We will lead into the committee, which is at 6, excuse me, 8.30. Central time. Trent Connan and Andrew Downs will continue this thing going. We'll have about three hours of CYHOC preview tonight here on Iowa everywhere. Looking forward to that as always Matthew Van Winkle is the producer of the program. Chris Hassels in Florida, I am in Iowa and we are ready to go. How you doing, buddy? I have spent the entire day listening to nothing but Iowa Iowa State game previews. From all of our stuff, Murphy and Andy, CW Pod to the ANF preview. Watch that. Listen to your psycholymphanatic preview with bloom. I feel like I'm rare and ready to go, baby. Well, let's get after it. Oh, fairway guy in the background.
I think I did see the committee members tonight are David Eicholt and Travis Hines. Let's get us. Perfect. We're going to have a hell of a committee. I'll be producing the show so I can jump in and do all that as well. What a give a shout out to, what do you got there? A little steeple ridge. You know what that is? Nope. It's a cocktail. I guarantee you you won't be able to guess it. Not a man hat. Nope. It's not a little fashion then. Nope. Apparel Spritz. Nope. It's got whiskey. That's the only heavy alcohol in it. It has whiskey and absinthe. That should be the hint right there. It's a Sazarack brother. Oh. It's going to be a two lane fan. That's from right out of Nolands. Got the top lane Goliath, Cybersuit. To be clear, I was a Willie Fritz fan. And so I just like the uniforms now.
Yeah. Wouldn't say I'm like hanging on every play of the two lane green wave anymore, unfortunately. So much to get into. And I'm like you, I feel like I've talked about this game so much. But we really kind of stayed away from each other, I think, by design. So we could have a pretty fresh conversation with this one today. Six thirty kick. I did watch the A&F guys. That was a really good breakdown of this game. From all angles. I mean, every angle, Iowa offense, Iowa defense, Iowa state offense, Iowa state defense. And I would encourage anybody that's even an Iowa state fan to tell us what that was. I do think you and me both have kind of narrowed it. And there's more to this game, obviously. But the reiner thing, I don't think that's where you and me can kind of narrow in on this thing right now. Like how does Jaywin reiner? Is he your difference in the game because he is mine? I mean, I think that it's a huge factor in this game. I wouldn't say the difference, but I think that like he...
If you get best case scenario with reiner, he could be a real problem for Iowa. But if not, like he could throw some picks. And to me, like the turnover battle in this game is always such a... It's always such a... But it's different this year. You know, a line of two touchdowns when we're compared to this thing usually being right around a field goal. But I don't see a way Iowa state can win this game if they're... You know, minus two on the turnover scale. So that's why like reiner just feels like his play is going to be critical. I think reiner is going to be the reason why Iowa wins easily. I think if reiner plays his best game, doesn't turn the ball over, that could be why Iowa state is in the game late with a chance to win it. I don't think that's going to happen. I think he's going to throw a pick six. I think he is going to... That's a pretty specific thing he's going to.
I think he's just going to try to do a little bit too much a few too many times. Because I think he's going to have to. Because I don't think you guys are going to be able to run the ball at all. I just... I don't see really any way that Iowa state moves the ball down the field on this Iowa team. And it's less about the Iowa defense and it's more about the Iowa state offense. I don't think your offense is any good. I don't think you can run the ball very well against anybody, but especially Iowa. And I think that Iowa is going to force reiner into a couple catastrophic mistakes. You will put this game away. You might be right. I just think it's too early to be that matter of fact about Iowa state's offense. We really don't know. I don't think Iowa state will get into the end zone unless they get an extremely short field. A punt block or a turnover return inside the 20 yard line.
I don't see Iowa state ever driving for 65, 70 yards. Don't see it. Do you... So that would eliminate your concern at all on the Iowa defensive line then? No concern. What's your concern? Not in this game. No. Iowa state is not going to be able to run the ball against Iowa. They're not. Your only chance is to reiner's got to get out of the pocket. He's got to try to create with his legs. And that's the key for me. Like I... I think that's the only way Iowa state's offense is consistently moving the ball. As reiner getting out of the pocket by design and stretching that Iowa defense laterally. And I do think it'll be a big part of the game plan with what they're going to try and do. Because the problem that I've seen in an insanely small sample size with Iowa state's offensive line, I actually think it'll be decent in late October.
The problem is they haven't played together and you can see that when you went back and watched it multiple times on Saturday against CMO. But the question I have is if... Because they're not going to use reiner like that throughout the year. And if they do, it's going to be a really long season for that offense. If he is using his legs more, which we fully anticipate he will, how does that make the offensive line play better? How does that allow them to gel? But the problem is it's just such a tough ask at the night game at Kinnec Stadium for your second game all playing together. Because that's a communication and chemistry and all those things. What game was it? I don't remember which CYHA game it was. I think it was the one, the last one Iowa state won in Kinnec. Couldn't they not get a snap off right at the beginning because they were backed up against that North end zone? Do you remember that way?
I mean, I know that two years ago, Iowa was up 13-nothing. Yeah, I think it was Matt and me. I was think could not get snaps off like it was it was that dramatic. And that's a big worry I have for the cyclone offense with this one because they just haven't played together a lot. It all really like none of these offensive linemen have played together. And I think you saw that even in the SEMA game and that that's a big concern for me. Anf podcast says 10 plus rushing attempts coming for reiner. Maybe 15 with scrambles. That's got to be the blue. I agree with them completely. I do too, but I also think it's really it's kind of tricky because I see him getting out of the pocket and causing issues for Iowa. But I also see him scrambling and just making a dumb mistake. Floating one in the middle of the field. I mean, this is a guy who's thrown double digit interceptions each of the last two seasons. And that's in Sunbelt play.
What's going to happen when he faces an opportunistic team like Iowa who's looking to feast on that? If I'm Tyler Roll, I'm instructing him and will he do it is a different question. But to like there was the specific play in the third quarter, which was one of the Iowa state's biggest plays of the game against SEMA on last Saturday. That would have been an interception against any other team on this couch. And that's the stuff that it's like he has to be it has to be burned into his brain to not do that shit on Saturday night and can extend him. Because that's how it gets ugly. I think the only way Iowa state wins this game is if it's a game like four years ago and it's whatever it was, 73 Iowa in the final few minutes and you drive 99 yards behind 100 acres. 100 acres. 100 acres. I don't see any way that Iowa state can win a game that's in the upper teens or the 20s.
I don't see that happening. And that means Rainer can't turn the ball over. Because I don't think you're going to be able to run it. So the only way you're going to move it down the field is with Rainer. Short passes take what the defense gives you which Iowa over the years has been known to do the bend don't break get into field go range kick your 45 yard or get your three points maybe at some point get a huge play from defense or special teams that puts you starting at the 25 yard line and that's where you can try to score your touchdown. So let's let's go from the other angle here because there's there's another quarterback situation obviously the one in Iowa city that we've been talking about seemingly for for months now. And well, I guess you want to just jump into the comfort zone because I think I'm taking you right into your comfort zone pick for the cyclone. So let's do it. Let's go into the Y-Coff comfort zone. Kick back and relax two guys have entered the Y-Coff eating and cooling comfort zone.
I think those air conditioners have been working overtime here. Are you guys still hot? Well, it's getting ready to cool off. It's going to be nice. The next week. Did you hear about all the storms we had last night? Yeah, saw that. God, it was brutal. Shit, when I was back last year for the side-hawk game. I mean, it was freezing at night. Yeah, we were bundled up. I remember that. I almost fell into the campfire. That story got told last weekend I think a couple times. Yeah, it's been kind of brutal here and then all those storms. I got stuck in a pitch dark junior college gymnasium for an hour last night. It was insane. The power went out. It was like the Florida State SMU game. The hell were you doing in a junior college gymnasium? Watching my niece play volleyball. She plays college volleyball and it was, oh my God. It was crazy. There's just like tornado sirens going off all around us.
All these people were screaming. It was crazy. Remember last year when you guys had me doing weather reports. You guys want to want that back for Saturday? Sure. Actually, that is kind of interesting. I did see there's a decent chance of rain on Saturday. It says AM. 36% chance. AM showers. High of 81. Low of 56 at night. I think we're going to get pretty good weather. It'll clear. As long as the rain stays away, that's perfect. I think rain and showers. Earlier in the day. Yes. Shower is one of morning cloudy in the afternoon. Alright, Hassel. We'll give us the comfort zone for the cyclons. You're very confident that this is going to be a total complete and total annihilation. How can I always stay at this one in your brain? I think you have to force Iowa's hand early. I think you've got to be extremely... Take chances on defense early. Very aggressive. I think you blitz Hank Brown.
I would guess is going to be the starter in this game. Hank Brown has shown that if he gets rattled a little bit, you get somebody in his face a little bit. He struggles. And I think you use that defensive line and those linebackers. Fast linebackers that you have. Small but fast. Yes. And you try to get him rattled early. Because I think that's the way that you can keep this a game. You have to get in Hank Brown's head early and potentially force a turnover or two from the quarterback position. And I think it's possible if you can get past that Iowa offensive line. Now that's a big if. And I will might see this coming. I might be like, they're aggressive. We're going to try to go over the top early. But I think you have to risk that if your Iowa state if you are going to make this a game. Yeah, I would agree. I would also... You know, that count lines up with mine because my comfort zone for the Hawkeyes is...
You know, as impressive as the turnaround of that offense under Blaster has been. You know, he's showing like they will throw on first down now, right? Like it used to be like you could just literally watch. This is a totally different team. And I'm telling you, it's a totally different offense than the one you even saw last season at this time with Mark Grinowski who was not trusted at all at that point. Both things are totally different. Like Iowa State's defense is like a different language. Like it's not even... Of course. Yeah. There's... You can't take anything from the last couple of years and... and point that out. So what I would say, like with your particular quarterback situation because when those guys got off script, they were not good. Even against Northern... It was also 27-the-nothing at that point. So keep that in mind. So that's a piece that's been left out of these conversations. Yeah, their numbers were shit after they got off the script, but it was 24-27-28-nothing, whatever the hell it was.
But they did what they wanted... My comfort zone last week for Friow was like, I know we're obsessed with quarterbacks and we're watching all the... And Diaz and all these flashy objects. All these flashy objects. But you... Your bread and butter has to be that offensive line, which is I think one of the top five in the country. Like I think that they're... And like to me, like if I'm Iowa trying to win this game, that is my blueprint. Like I don't know how much the quarterback really matters and maybe that will continue to develop and it'll be blatantly obvious in five weeks. I don't know. Quarterbacks shouldn't matter in this game. But I don't think it does. I really, really don't. So to match up that I just think is the most important of the entire day is Iowa State's defensive line. And like... These guys are not a couple of freshmen and sophomores.
These are really experienced players that Iowa State has up front on a defensive one. They have real players. And so it's kind of like to me, like if I'm Iowa... And I know what I have in this offensive line. I know they lost a lot of dudes, but I don't know how much matters after you go back and watch those... I heard that in camp too, right? With Iowa's offensive line. Like we had a lot of people telling us like how good these guys have looked. That is my comfort zone if I'm the hot guys into this one because if we can do that with an offensive line, then all of a sudden your quarterbacks are more comfortable. Right? Like they're not... We're not even having to worry about it. If I'm an Iowa State fan to... I mean, literally the point you just made. If we can get our... What we think is pretty good, the Iowa State defensive line,
if we can disrupt and not make Kamari Molten the player of the game, right? Like that's... To me, that's the key. If Kamari Molten's the player of the game, Iowa's going to win this thing by double digits. If he's not, you know, Iowa State's going to have a chance to disrupt and do some things with this new defense. So that's your comfort zone. That's another thing to point out from last season is Kamari Molten didn't play in that game. Iowa did not have... Did not have their top running back. I mean, it was Xavier Williams, Jazz Patterson, and Mark Grinowski was a shell of himself from what we saw later in the year. Iowa turned the corner offensively well after that Iowa State game. And I think that is carrying over into this season. And one of the reasons I'm so confident that this is going to be a pretty big win
covering the spread for Iowa is because they have proven time and time again. They will blow you out. They will blow your ass out. They've done it to Wisconsin and Minnesota and Washington. I mean, you go back. They have six wins over the last two seasons, two years, the last two years. They have six wins by 24 plus. And I'm not included... This is not including the G5 teams. I'm not including last week's win. Yeah. I'm not including, you know, the Illinois States and all that shit. This is 40 to 16 against Nebraska. 41-3 against Minnesota. 37-0 against Wisconsin. All three of those last season. The year before, 42-10 against Wisconsin. 40-14 against Northwestern. 40-16 against Washington. They will blow your ass out. If you can't keep up, they will destroy you. And I don't see Iowa State keeping up in this game.
I just... I don't see any way Iowa State moves the football. Don't see away. I, again, to me, it goes back to Rayner and what he can do outside of the pocket. And if that's a thing... He's got to work some magic. If that's a thing, got a football game. He's got to beat... It's not what he was against Iowa State last year at Arkansas State. It is, but that's so hard because like, that Iowa State offense under Heycock was like not built for a guy like Rayner, right? The kryptonite of that defense is a running quarterback. And as Chad Lysico pointed out on the CW pod, this isn't your older brother's Iowa defense that really struggles with mobile quarterback. That was the 10 years. That was 10 years, 15 years ago. They've changed the way they go about defending teams with a cash position. Now they've gone to the 335.
I don't have as many concerns about Jalen Rayner as I would have 10 years ago. But I do know that he can create some havoc if he goes out there and he extends drives with his legs. And that's why I've said that he's a really good quarterback for Iowa State to have specifically this year. Because I just think that their entire season is going to be made and ended in third and fourth. And I wouldn't be nearly... I wouldn't be nearly this confident if Rocco Beck was the quarterback. Not nearly this confident. With this exact same team. Well, yeah, I mean, not nearly. Rocco Beck, I was reading this the other day is the most experienced quarterback in college football. Yeah, Mark Rinalwski was that last year for Iowa. I can't think of the last time I picked Iowa
with this much confidence. Because usually I pick Iowa State in this game. And I've been right. Three of the last four years. You're coming off pretty confident. I am. And I'm never this... You're setting up a lot of tape if Iowa State was doing this thing. But I'm never this way in this game. It's always like, oh, yeah, those peas picking Iowa State again. He's a cyclone fan. Oh, this year I just... I don't see it. I see... Can I give you a final score, prediction? Yeah, I'll give you mine, too. I got mine ready. I've got Iowa 30. Iowa State 9. Okay. I have 24 to 13. Okay, so you have Iowa State covering. I do have Iowa State covering. Now, for the record, Mattie, can you pull up the latest line? Because it has been moving around a little bit today. Because it was...
Didn't it open at like 12? I got it at 14 earlier today when I sent in... It had gotten up to 14 and a half. Yeah, I had seen it at 14 and a half some places. And then it went back down below 13. It seemed fandall 13 and a half, MGM 14. So it's moving a little bit right now. Okay. Well, yeah, I have Iowa State covering. I do think that they'll have a good game plan. And the question will be, you know, on Rainer, can you not... I like what role... I think he's a really good offensive coordinator. I don't think he's stupid enough to just drop Rainer back and let him lose the game for you. I could see them really try and shorten this thing. And I do think that Iowa State's defense is probably better than what you maybe think. Me? Yeah. I mean, it feels like you think that they're... I think that they're a good defense, but I think... They have a lot of... I think that Iowa team's gonna average 33, 34 points per game this season.
Okay. Well, what else... Do you have anything else on this game that... Well, we haven't talked about what we think we're gonna see from the quarterbacks. We hit on it a little bit on Monday, but I think it's going to be... Kirk Farons just said we're gonna see both. I think it's gonna be Hank Brown, again, scripted first two, three series. And then it's gonna be heklensky. And then I think it's a big question mark after that. I don't expect to know who the starter is gonna be going into the following week like the starter for the rest of the season. I think it's going to be another... Back and forth. I think parents would be kind of dumb, though, if like. Let's say... Here's how I think the game will go. I think I will... Will jump out to a lead. Like, I... It's a huge ask for this first year Iowa State program to go into Kenik and a night game and jump out early, in my opinion. Like, if Iowa State is gonna be in the game at the end, they have to be able to withhold an initial run from Iowa.
Okay, so like, let's say Iowa gets out... 14-nothing. It's over. It is over. But would you put in... Yes, please. If you have score 14 points. Okay, but would you screw on with the quarterbacks if you get out to that? Absolutely. Fuck yes. Are you kidding me? If you get a 14-nothing, then it all... All it should be about from then on is screwing with the quarterbacks. But what if Hecklund's key would come in and throw a pick? Iowa State's not going to come back and win that game. If they're down 14-nothing with this offense, it's not gonna happen. I'm sorry, it's not. You had... You came back from 13-down when you had Rocklebacked and two NFL-wide receivers. You don't have that now. You're not gonna be able to run. That's the thing though, like, I don't know what they have. They don't have much... Anything offensively. I mean, but we don't... How do you know that? I'm pretty confident. I think that you guys will be able to win some games in the big 12, a handful. Yeah, you know, like a 20-17 game in the big 12.
Yeah, I think there'll be a lot of those. Yeah. I just... I don't buy it. Right. I don't buy that this team's gonna be able to do anything against Iowa offensively. I don't. So, I mean, what do you wanna talk about with the Iowa quarterbacks? And I don't know what else to say. It's like, we don't know anything. Well, I think we know what more of... What is there to happen? It's gonna be Hank Brown starting the game. And he's gonna be on a script. And then it's gonna be Jeremy Hecklinsky. And then I think all bets are off after that. Because to your point, if it's 14-nothing, and Hank Brown is rolling, no matter what I think, Kirk Ference thinks something different. And maybe Kirk Ference decides to just sit on it and just get the hell out of there because they're up. And he knows if he keeps the ball on the ground, the game's gonna be over. Now, I think that's ridiculous. I think that from then on, you test out your quarterbacks.
But... I just can't see... That's not how Kirk Ference is. Yeah, I can't... That's why I cannot see him. If he gets a double digitally, be like, oh, let's hack out there and go down field. I just can't see him. Well, no, I... I know way. I don't either. I don't either. That's what's gonna be interesting, I think, after each quarterback gets a handful of series, what happens from there? Especially if it's a... If it's a tight game. Because then he's gonna have to go with the guy who he really thinks is going to give them the best chance. He's gonna do the hot hand thing at that point. Yeah. I mean, if it's Heklensky that led you to a couple scoring drives and not Hank Brown, and it's a 13 to 7 game, I think he's going to lean Brown though. I can see. Because he's worried about Heklensky turning the ball over. And that's the one way you give this game away. Brown's the safer play. I agree. That is the one way. I will lose. It only loses this game.
They give the ball some major turnover problems. And that's what Iowa State is gonna want to do. They're not dumb. They know that that's the way you do it. Shorten the game. And it's like, I always used to do the teams all the time. Right. Teams that they know are better. Yeah. That's what I always say in the game. Especially on the road. You've got the kicker. Got the kicker. I think both teams punt games are a little skeptical. Definitely. That could be a little wrinkle in this game on both sides. Heard all fall camp Iowa State's punt team was struggling. And everybody's telling me Iowa's his two. It better not be Reese Vanders. He back there returning punts again. God damn it. It better be, I want lot more. I don't care what happened with the punt return last game. I want lot more back there in the Iowa State game. Like he's, I think he might have been a little bit banged up in week one. And so they didn't want to risk putting him back there.
It cannot be Reese Vanders. After what we saw in week one of that punt return unit. Okay. Let's think our friends over at Game Day. Min's health. Actually, what's wild is every time I go in there. I see like three people who've watched this show. Who are in there in the ink any location. It's kind of cool. I've got to meet a lot of our viewers and listeners through that. You can get your consultation book for free. Get those levels checked. I may even tell you you don't need it. We'll see. Hassled the... Let's do the mightiest moment with our friends at might EM here. And this week is also about, of course, it's about the time. Of course, it's about the rivalry, but it's about how much we love the state. And there's a couple of sentimental stories that we need to acknowledge today as well. So let's do our mightiest moment.
At a tragic... Well, first of all, let's do the giveaway. IowaEverywhere.com. might EM is giving away a bad-ass tailgate package for whoever wins this thing. And this thing is well over $1,000 giveaway. A heater, inverter, a cooler, a tent, Bluetooth speaker, a $250 fairway gift card. Matt, how many... Do you know how many people have entered this? It's over 1,000 now. And we are picking the winner on Sunday night show. So you got a couple more days left to get in on this. And, yeah, stay tuned on Sunday. We'll be announcing the winner. IowaEverywhere.com. We started the week off with just a tragic story out of Iowa City about this young man in the band who got heatstroke. And I believe it was Monday or maybe it was Tuesday, which he passed away. And Derek Phillips was his name. And we put up a little graphic to start the show.
But my mightiest moment on that part is just watching the whole state rally around the Iowa band. I saw the Iowa State Marching Band put out a big thing. And just a tragic deal. So we wanted to honor Derek on today's show and kind of dedicate this show to him and his family. And those band communities are insanely small. I saw the Iowa State Band was like, yeah, we have a lot of kids in our band who did like honor band and stuff like that with him. And it's just so heartbreaking. So we wanted to dedicate the program tonight for Derek on our mightiest moment. The band is what makes college football great. Absolutely. Like they are the huge part of the environment. Just the band is the band makes college football games. Like you play college football video games. The band is a huge part of it. So man, thinking about Derek and his family and yeah, it's been cool to see the band community and just college sports fan kind of route the arms around this.
You're right about that. I mean, I remember the first few times I went to a college football game. It was the band that stood out more than anything. The crowd and how the crowd would react to the band. If a band comes out, fight song before the game, national anthem. I mean, that is college football and you don't get that in the NFL. You don't. It's such an important part of the game. And it's so much cooler when you get your band to go out on the road. Like when? Yeah. We've made our jokes about the Iowa going to Iowa state. And that whole situation, whenever that was, five, six years ago. But it's cool. You know, when Iowa gets to go to Ames, when I was doing it together, Iowa City. Yeah. It really is. And this week we got to see the band community become one for Derek. It just just such a just a horrific horrific thing that happened at that game last week.
And I think everybody's handled it about as well as they possibly could in every aspect of this. The other one is. Good friend of mine. Jack Whitford has been battling brain tumor for years now. And Matt, Matt pulled this up from Dan McCarnie's Facebook page, which is just awesome. It's just flashbacks to that 2002 Sayhawk game, which is one of the best ones ever played. Three guys who were a major part of that. Seneca Wallace and Lane Danielson and Jack. So Jack's been getting some treatments over in Germany and Coach McCarnie posted this picture of those three. His former teammates taken him over there to. He said they went to a football game in Germany. That looks like a soccer game. But well, football. Yeah, it's a soccer. Yeah, I know. It's. We wanted to honor those guys. And Jack there as well. It's great. Kind of a cool post there by Dan McCarnie.
Somebody in the comments just commented that Derek was actually from Piazza, which is where my DM's headquartered. Yeah. Oh, that's crazy. That is crazy. Good pull right there. Okay. Well, again, more than just football, we have a very close knit state and wanted to bring those two stories to light here. On your Wednesday night. Remember the committee coming up at 830 tonight. Let's dig in to this. I want to start with poor choices here. And then we'll go into hassle making the case because these stories kind of bleed into one another. So when we left you on Monday. I kind of mentioned that I was just curious like poor choices brought to you by toppling Goliath, by the way. Maddie, are you still drinking that pseudo suit? I know you have one to start the show. Yeah, buddy. It's a cyber suit.
Get it right. Okay. Excuse me. I actually, I like the cyber suit better than this. Oh, you like cyber suit more than pseudo suit? I do. It's more of my style, but they're both delicious. Citro-Moseyak and Simco hops. So I was kind of like in a way joking, but I was like, man, I could almost convince myself that the big 10 paid off the Mac just to keep its mouth shut after that Michigan Western Michigan game on Saturday night. But I didn't really believe it. It was kind of just like being a smart ass. And then everything that happens on Tuesday. And then it was like yesterday that the Mac was like, oh, they did not follow protocol. What the hell is this? I was blown away at first because the Mac was like, oh, you know what? No, the big 10th right, Michigan's right. They got it right. I was so sorry we're the Mac. We don't want to step on their toes.
They clearly did everything right. We're just happy to be here. And what? And then of course yesterday, it's like they come out with a statement from the commissioner who had made a statement before saying, you know, all hail Michigan and they everything's great with the big 10. And they said, well, after further study and investigation, it is now evident that replay protocol was not properly followed. So we demand to be ruled the winners of the game. What? Why did you jump so early to the conclusion that everything was fine? Everything had been done perfectly. And you know, you had no complaints and everything was above board. And then you get to come back a few days later and say, hang on a second. What? Because nobody's listening to you at this point. It's just so.
You already said it was okay. And it was also they put this out right around the time that all this drama and the SEC was unfolding with like Kiffin. Now we're going to have these other two players. And we're not really in the SEC's like, no, we're going to kick your asses out. And it would just it had just completely moved on. And like, and now I'm kind of at the point where I'm such an idiot Chris, like I just want to believe people. I am I am deep with all to respect. I am a much bigger idiot than you. You want to believe people? I want to going to believe. No, I want to believe people. So even when the big 10 put out that video from like this replay booth, I'm watching this. I'm like, all right, those guys, they're not trying to fix the game. Right? Like they're I don't think those guys that were in there doing the replay thing. We're saying like, we're going to screw Western Michigan. I don't believe that. I don't believe that for a second. But the problem is I didn't know a lot of the things that you taught me about like the clock when you're doing play by play and how all these things are synced up.
And then when I read this, now I'm second thinking everything. I'm like, maybe this was rigged. Could you see the big 10 being like, hey, fuckers, we're not going to schedule you guys and pay off your athletic departments. Like, I again, like I want to believe that that didn't happen. But the way all this timing went out like what in the hell changed if you're the Mac? I don't understand. That's what I don't get either. What happened? What changed? What did they uncover upon further review where the replay rules weren't followed to their liking that they were so confident about in the heat of the moment? Like in the heat of the moment when everyone would have respected you if you were like, dammit, this is a foul. We've got to figure this out. We won that game. That clock was at zero. If what? I don't think this is going to happen. I know you don't either. Hypothetically. Michigan's 11 and 1. Okay.
The playoff committee has to consider this, right? The fact that they didn't win this game. We all saw it. Yeah. I mean, just look at the rankings this week. They fell out of the AP poll from with a win. They fell from what? 16 out? Out completely out. And then the West Michigan. And the very least it's a horrible win. The Western Michigan coach was given the coach of the week. Yeah. It was kind of cool. I'm good for them. Whoever. Now, if they're 11 and 1, that doesn't matter. Even if they were 10 and 2 with a loss to Western Michigan, they'd be in the playoff. It's if they're 10 and 2. Okay. Whatever the scenario is, I think you have to consider it. And I think that's why Western Michigan came back with this statement. The Mac came back with this statement. Thinking that, well, geez, if Western Michigan goes 11 and 1, and we're up there against, you know, Boise and Memphis,
and we should be 12 and 0 and we should be in this thing. But at 11 and 1, we probably won't be. That's what they're trying to do with that statement. They are trying to get the playoff committee to consider that a win. You don't think they actually like got new information. You think they're just doing different PR? Because this is terrible, Boise. I don't wait to win. It's terrible. Because we had all moved on. Like it's shitty. It was horrible. But we had all moved on. I do think that this is all about the playoff. This is all about Western Michigan as 11 and 1, and how do they look up against an 11 and 1 Boise? How do they look against an 11 and 1 Memphis? You know, that's what it is. But we did get some changes. We did, and it's time for Hassel. Makes the case. Hassel makes the case. Fapped by Schwabel, Gets, and Seabin. The Personal Injury Powerhouse.
If you're like one of those bills fans that gets drunk and jumps through a table, the tailgate, can you sue the grounds of where you're at? Where it is the limit? We need to ask our friends at Schwabel, Gets, and Seabin. Just thinking of all the crazy tailgates that happen this week. And then you jump over that barrier that's between you and the playing field. You can't see the feel so that you try to cross it to get over it and you fall down and hurt yourself. Yeah, I think so. I talked to Cole today. Oh, did you talk to Cole? From Schwabel, yeah. Cole's great, dude. Fantastic guy. I appreciate them. Really appreciate them. Schwabel.com. That's spelled S-C-H-W-E-B-E-L. Go ahead, make some good became of this. More transparency. The Big Ten has said the beginning Saturday, all of their Big Ten football games, which is actual Big Ten matchups. And Big Ten games that have Big Ten officiating crews at Big Ten venues
will allow you to listen in and watch the replay crew go over what they're reviewing, which is what we have seen from the ACC the last year or two, which is what the Big Ten said they were going to let us do on Friday nights. Well, now... Big 12's done it too. We've seen that in some of those games. Some of the games you have now all of them. Some of them make the UFL or something to adopt that too. Well, now the Big Ten's going to do it beginning this Saturday. Now, as I mentioned, it's only Big Ten games or Big Ten venues with Big Ten crews that does not apply to the SciHawk game this week. Correct. Because the SciHawk game, any time it's in Ames, it's a Big Ten crew, any time it's in Iowa City, it's a Big 12 crew. So, yeah. So since it's a Big 12 crew this week, we're not going to get a peek behind the curtain at what they're reviewing this week. But, you know, if it's a... Let's just say it's a Penn State Marshall game.
I'm sure that was a Big Ten crew. That from now on, in every Big Ten game, we're going to be able to take a peek behind the curtain and see this. And I'll make the case that every conference needs to do this right now. Right now. You have to be transparent. You cannot... Every game. Yeah. Yeah, starting next year, like I... There's too much money. Right. Maybe the infrastructure is not in place right now to do it at Kinnex Stadium with a Big 12 crew for this SciHawk game, because you're kind of getting it ahead... You know, you're ahead of schedule here. But starting next year, this has to be everybody. Every conference, and I'm pointing at you, the SEC. You have to give us a peek behind the curtain. And I think that that's going to help you too. That's going to help these conferences. That's going to help these officials. It's going to let us understand why a call is made or not made. Change or not changed. I think this is all part of the clunky transition to professionalization of college sports, though, don't you?
But the NFL doesn't do it either. They don't do it yet. Really? Well, yeah, you guess you're right. But the game's on right now. Patriots see what I say. What are the review you don't get to hear the review team? Yeah. And what they're saying and looking at. I'm just trying to... I would love to see the difference in like whatever the Big 10 control room is. Compared to an NFL one. Yeah. Yeah. I would just be a great store. Like that's a great Scott Doctorman. I guess my question is like how much more sophisticated is the NFL one compared to like the Big 12 or the ACC? Like I don't know. I don't know. We have no clue. None. Do you remember that game? It was like a Pac-12 game. Maddie looked this up. This was like 15 years ago. Where Larry Scott, the commissioner, whatever like phoned in. Yeah. I remember this being a huge ordeal. Oh my God. But I don't remember the specific details. See this?
That's the problem. And that's why you need to do it though because there's so much distrust in college athletics because the money. Right. Like it's just... And then the problem is like with the NFL like everybody's just like, oh yeah these guys are pros. Like college athletics have tried to hold on to this amateurism thing for so long that it just takes... It's taking forever for the industry to catch up to what it is today. But you know who has never been an amateur is the officials. They've always been professionals. Maddie can you read this? I just want to... We should get to here and see everything that they're hearing and talking about and seeing in these replay booths. This was back in 2018. It was Washington State and USC. Commissioner Larry Scott ordered an internal review of the centralized replay system this month. After Yahoo Sports reported a replay official complained about a third party overruling officials at the stadium. That's what it was. Because that was I think Leach was coaching Washington State. Oh yeah.
If I'm not mistaken. Yeah, but that's the problem. If you're the PAC-12 back then, of course you want USC to win these games. Like there's so much money. You're talking like tens of millions of dollars for the conference. And nobody trusts any of it. And that's why this Michigan's... Western Michigan thing is so fascinating because not only is it like David Dupont, like David versus Goliath, 30 point favorite, like it's just interesting. But the entire Mac conference is basically funded by these big 10 games. So of course like we're suspecting that there can be corruption. But what the hell happened in these last couple days? What happened to make the Mac go, oh wait a second. This wasn't above board. We do need to make a statement here. This reminds me a little bit of what I said last week. When I said like there's part of me that doesn't hate Lane Kiffin
because he pushes these things and then doors get closed. Just like we're seeing with this NFL thing right now. Like somebody has to fuck up. What NFL thing? What are you talking about? The NFL players. Oh yeah. Because somebody was going to try that. And like I'd rather it just get done now and have the door shut. Just have the door slam so we can move on. And unfortunately for Western Michigan, they were the victims here. Yeah, well. But good will come from on the surface. Yes. I do think that those replay officials got it right in what they were seeing. I do think that they were told to look at a clock. And that was the clock they were looking at. Whether it was the way they were supposed to do it or not. That's what they were looking at. There was a second left. And somehow they hit the Hail Mary on that play. I mean, that's insane that that happened. Yeah. Yeah, it really is. Did you speak to Kiffin? We just had a question in our chat.
Did you see the leaked half time? I did not. No. Oh my God. Matt pulled up. We have to watch it. Somebody is going to get fired or has already gotten fired and has gotten their ass beat. So somebody was in... Well, don't you think it was a player that did it? No. I know. Because usually it's a player. I absolutely don't believe it was a player. So you think it was some kind of a... I think it was a... A fringe staffer. Yes. Okay. Because you can tell by the video that we're about to watch, it's like a cell phone is pointing down and you can tell by their shoes in the khakis they are wearing. Okay. I'm not sure if you're like 78 months ago, whatever. Listen to this. All right. And we ask you to work really hard. Okay. And we ask you to come back to work again and again and again. Okay. Do you feel good about what happened? I don't know. Who can get the fuck what happened? That's what's supposed to happen. Ain't no fucking celebration for that. They're fucking soft.
They work different. We're fucking different. So you got to show them again. They're going to come out. Doesn't matter what plays they run. Doesn't matter what they do on offense, people put the next amount of fucking quarter back in. I don't give a fuck. You said I'm a fucking message. Who the fuck is on their schedule? And I hate the fact that kiffin's making me like him right now. I don't think we like that late. It doesn't matter if you're in a game for one snap or 50 more snaps. You fucking take it out on them. Don't think we'll hate you. It's possible. Good luck to yourself. The kiffin planted this. I'm really. This is Lane Kiffin we're talking about. This guy. Oh, that's a good point, Chris. This guy we saw is khakis and his shoes. Like, that's all he focused on. I mean, it was, now my guess is all the staff was wearing similar outfits. But I think it'd be pretty easy for LSU to go back with other video
and see who was standing in that spot with a cell phone in his hands. I wouldn't put it past Lane Kiffin to put that out there himself. And this guy that said at halftime, just imagine what it'd be like if we had pro players in the interview. And the fact that he's just absolutely castrating dabbo in the process. And then dabbo had a real dog of a press conference this weekend too. He pulled out the yellow ever played football. Lane. Oh, God. I'll be happy when he's gone. Yeah, tell me about it. Can we make some picks, motherfucker? You want to do the locks or do you want to preview the weekend first? Let's make some picks. Let's go. Eventually. Boy, you kind of threw that out of nowhere. Now, honestly. Damn.
Now that I'm going to want to make picks because I was so anticlimactic. I'll start. Well, so we need to acknowledge how horrible we were in week one. Can we do that, please? Oh, my God. Makes me feel good about the side-hawk game. Now, why is that? Because I picked... I mean, we both picked so many things wrong. We were horrible. Who's going first? One of the worst pick weeks in the history of two guys. Williams, you go first. All right. Well, we all went one and four last week, I think. So I will go first. I'm going to take Minnesota. So got this line early in the week. It's actually reversed. I think Minnesota is like a one-point favorite now. Well, that's what they do now with Pickums. It swings one and a half, one way, one and a half the other way. And they just juiced it. It's really not much of a swing at all, whether you get Minnesota plus one and a half or Mississippi State plus one and a half.
It's all about the juice. I just think the wrong team is favorite the whole time. And Minnesota is... They're a good program. The problem is... They got flack and everything after the Big Ten West. And like, they're putting up good football teams each and every year. And Mississippi State is in flux. You got to go up there. I just think the wrong team is favorite here. I like Minnesota. I think that they're an underrated Big Ten team on the whole scheme of things. They're maybe not one of those top tier ones, but I think they're a really good T2 type Big Ten team. And they're definitely better than Mississippi State. This is the middle of the pack Big Ten team against a bottom barrel SEC team. It's at the Big Ten campus. Absolutely. A lot of good Big Ten SEC this weekend, by the way. Mississippi State has a dude at quarterback. This is going to be a great game to watch because Drake Lindsay at Minnesota is in an NFL prospect.
You know, this guy at Mississippi State, watch this game, folks. You are a regular. This guy, true dual threat, he is fun to watch 19 years old. Similar story brewing out in Salt Lake City where Utah is an 11 and a half point favorite over our country. Arkansas. Arkansas is, it depends on who you talk to, but the worst team in the SEC. Well, I just talked to my best friend from high school. John Kebrew. Whoopig Green. No, no, he's not the Oreo guy. John. John was born in Arkansas. Had sex with the sandwich. His family lives in Fayetteville. They are season ticket holders. He knows, no, he's not that guy. He knows Arkansas football better than anybody. I said, hey, because Arkansas is, he works at a large campus in college station, like a big school campus, like a high school type thing.
And when teams come down to college station to play A&M, they like to do their walkthroughs at his campus. Arkansas sends them a note, hey, we want to come down there. So I'm like, oh, this is great. How's Arkansas going to be this year? He said, they won last week. They won't win again. Well, I don't know, like Utah. Utah is going to obliterate. They have dudes. They didn't have it. I mean, that's some guys go with winning him, but this is a good program. They just hired a guy from within and a really good quarterback. And I think Utah wins this by three touchdowns. And all of a sudden, these, you know, the power ratings are really going to catch up to how bad Arkansas is. So I think we're on the same page. Arkansas is probably the worst SEC team. They were last year. They're probably again this year. It might not for liking Nebraska against bowling green this weekend. I wish I was on the other side of the hook here. You're not. But Nebraska's offense is pretty good. I have questions about their defense, but bowling green just lost to Tarleton State last week.
They've got to go into Lincoln. And Nebraska, I think still covered last week. It is. Yeah, despite really not playing well at all. So how you got this young running back, you know what his last name is? Who Nebraska? Yeah. His last name is rule. Oh, spelled differently spelled R U L E. He's black. And the announced team felt the need to say no relation to Matt rule. But he, he went nuts last week. He's going to run all over bowling green. I just horrible. I could find it. It's a little scary taking the hook at 25 and a half 28. 28, 28, 28 and a half because you could dominate this game and still lose. But I could also see Nebraska with 28 and nothing at half. And notable bowling green is in Ames next week. So a little bit of a reason to watch this game.
So is bowling green playing in Ames back to back seasons? Yes. Yeah, because they bought out of that road once. Well, I mean, that's better than having to go on the road. Nebraska needs to get it shit together though. Like that start last week was horrible. Yeah. Yeah, but I don't for what it's worth guys. I don't really. I'm not that high on Nebraska. I just, I'm really low. I'm really low on the one green and I still in the country. I still think Nebraska is going to score a lot of points in this one. I'm going to lay the 28 and a half for. I'm with you on those first three. I am not with you on your last pick. This was my last one. And I just can't help myself. I had this one too. I can't help. And I know this is a square play. I know it is. I'm going to take Oklahoma five and a half at Michigan. And here's why it's the problem was not just price underwood. The problem was Michigan's entire offense was total dog shit last week. They're line sucked. Western Michigan's hanging out in the backfield. And it's, you know, Brent Vennibull is in one of the best D lines in top 10 D line in college football coming down.
So like, I just, my question. And maybe I think I would have him phenomenal. You guys know that. I love him. But can you really fix this in six days, especially with the distracting week that Michigan has had? And in the big house, it's like, you know, it's historic and all the, but if you talk to people like it's not one of the hardest places to play in the country. It's just not Oklahoma has a veteran quarterback and John Matier coming in elite D line. And one of the best defensive coaches we've seen in the last 20 years of college football. I'm going to lay the five and a half. I'm going to do it. I think it's a, this is a trap spot. It is a trap. I know it is. This is absolutely a trap. I think Michigan is going to bounce back. And I don't know if it's going to be Bryce Underwood or if it's going to be CJ Carr's brother that ends up replacing him there. Because that's who they have is the backup. I think that that fan base is going to be on fire for this game, especially after the way last week.
And did they feel like they've been drugged through the mud this week? I think this is your, this is your prototypical bounce back game. I don't like this at all for Oklahoma. I would like it more for Michigan. And again, I'm on their one total over. So I was higher on Michigan than you. I just, I think this is, yeah, I'm wrong opponent. I'm wrong opponent. I'm wrong opponent. Wrong opponent. Wrong time. It's five and a half though. Like, when by four and by six. When by four and by six. All right. I have several picks that are similar to yours. So I'm not going to. And we also need to note that we don't compare these. No, we don't. We don't, we don't. We had no idea going in that we were going to have the same. I have Minnesota plus one and a half against Mississippi State. I have Utah plus minus 11 and a half against Arkansas. So I'll give you my other three. Wake Forest minus three at Purdue. Produced terrible. Wake Forest is a decent ACC team. It's at Purdue, but I think Wake Forest will cover.
War shingtom. Minus 26 and a half against Utah State. Washington is not feeling great about the way they played against Washington State last week. They're pissed. Utah State's terrible. They lost at home to Idaho State last week. Idaho State. Washington will win by more than 26 points. And my last pick. This is my slam dunk of the week. Iowa minus 14 against Iowa State. This is going to be a blowout. What was your score again? You had it 30 to nine. Okay, see you at about three touchdowns. I don't think Iowa State gets into the end zone. I think Iowa gets to 30. I think Iowa is going to be able to run for 200 yards. Iowa State won't be able to run for 50 yards. And Kyle Connard.
50 yards. You don't think there's not going to be a match? No. Man, don't. Okay. Maddie van Winks. I should be two and three. Yeah, well, I'm making excuse. She'd be my uncle. Alright, so Scrooze out. If my witch didn't have a hot moth, she would be your South Dakota State. Or what? So you have Minnesota as well. You have. Nebraska as well. You have Utah as well. So give us your other two. Alright, so Scrooze out the Dakota State. North Dakota State. We got a mountain west showdown. Oh, right. That's a good game. I'd love to watch the game. That's a good game. At Air Force. Yeah. NDSU wants. Yeah, they're off for blood. They're off for blood. You're absolutely right. Two and a half is insulting to the bison. I don't know much. Not everybody just walks into Colorado Springs.
It's yeah, it's weird playing those academies, but I do like North Dakota State there too. Oh, this will be, I might put way more on my T's this to like a touchdown. That's that's an insane lock. What? North Dakota State. Yeah. Insane. Okay. That's my best. I don't know enough about those teams. So good on you if you've done that research. It's good by Zill. All right. And then I got pay at minus seven against the central Florida. Gold and knife. I like how you spelled that whole thing out. Central Florida. If you know, you know, if you know, you know, right? If you know, if you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, who's that friend of yours that gets really sensitive about this hassle? Oh, Michael Donald. Yeah, it's a road system. Yeah, he played at Central Florida. Oh, he did. He worked in the Central Florida athletic department. And I always give him shit about like, do you understand if you try to make everybody call you UCF that nobody's going to know who the hell you are? And it's like, why didn't I talk it about it?
Of course you will. I think no. People in Iowa aren't going to know the different UCF, USF, what the hell is it? FIU, FAA, they don't know the difference. Call yourself Central Florida and they'll know. Yeah. But this leads us perfectly into Williams going along. Yeah. Let's go along. Yeah. It's time to go along with wealth charter retirement planning and tax. Yeah, I, you know, this is just a good schedule for the big 12 this weekend. There's, there's some challenging games that you're not interested in games. Yeah, that you're not really expected to win. But there's also some games where the league could rack up some wins against power four schools, which would be beneficial for it. But I'm really intrigued by organ Oklahoma State. It's 11 a.m. Are you really? Well, only because I think we're going to be close. You think that's going to be close? No, I'm not even saying that. I want to see how Oklahoma State just responds because I've been reading some of their stuff
from down there. And like, their, their fans are convinced that they got sold a bill of goods like Bellachack North Carolina. Like they are. Oh, with the new coach from North Texas, Eric Morris. Like, yes, best of my. Like, these fans are, I rate. So like my thing, because I guess my, my gut tells me that it's probably not that bad with Oklahoma State. But it can be as bad as what we saw last week. You're right. Or organ was bad last week too. Correct. But I feel like this might be wrong opponent wrong time. And that's how I felt about Oklahoma with Michigan. We'll see if I end up being right there. Like, I just, I don't know if Dan Laning, like an angry Dan Laning is exactly what the doctor ordered here. But I, I, I, interesting, Oklahoma State is an interesting team to me with mastermaker, even despite the loss. I want to see how they bounce back. Are they competitive? Can they keep this competitive? I was fascinated by organ state before last week. I was disgusted with them. Horror last week.
Horror. What about, I don't think Arizona State has any chance at Texas A&M. But that's interesting. Interesting. That's a 14 and a half points, but really interesting game. If they can keep that close, that helps the big 12. Yeah. And the last year, that's when everything went, they went down to Mississippi State and lost. There's a ranked team. Less interesting here, but notable Kansas State host Washington State. Arizona, BYU is like a true conference game in week two. Yeah. And that's a hell of a game. Seven and a half, I thought about replaying BYU. But held off because of the veteran quarterback, Fafita, will not be as impacted by a road atmosphere. And it's a day game, so that'll take a little bit of juice out of that place. They won't be as drunk at BYU as they would have been if it was a night game. Do you know they like hand out cookies to the opposing crowd at BYU games? Yeah, they really do.
Hey. What a weird experience that would be. The crumble cookies, that's their thing. Oh, yeah, of course, the crumbles. But what a great game that is, Central Florida, the Golden Knights, or at Pitt, is Matt just noted. So you can get a ACC, what you're at seven point dog, dog in a lot of these games. I am interested. Texas Tech has a true road game at Oregon State. Corvallis sucks, like it's super out of nowhere. I would pick Tech to absolutely plaster this team and bounce. They did not look good last week. Tech was really disappointing. They are not the team that they looked like last week. A lot of people are picking Oregon State here, not to win, but to cover. I would go the other way. Oregon State, they were decent at Houston last week. Correct, yeah. Absolutely. They were. Of course, we have Sihock, and then we had that Arkansas Utah game, which kicks off at 9.15. Yeah, you toss in. They got up. They cannot lose that game. They cannot.
If you lose to the worst team in the SEC, if one of your best teams again loses to the worst team in the SEC, it can't happen. I don't think it will. I don't think it will, but that's a really good schedule. It is. Fun week. Really good week at College Football. Now the other one, this is not big 12, but the ongoing is we can get into our get up its game day segment here. Because we have the get up its game day. Chris Williams and Chris Assle take a look at this week's best games powered by game day. No, we have this sloppy real sloppy ongoing SEC and big 10 thing Ohio State at Texas. Holy shit. Ohio State at Ohio State as an underdog. When does that ever happen?
It never happens. I know. I mean, who do you think is the best team in the SEC? I don't know what I want. I don't know what I want. If I were you, I would probably want Ohio State. Yeah, you're right. Because I have a place them early in the season. You want them to be as highly ranked as possible. I don't want them to be like hyper focused because Ryan Day has been working on this. Because Ryan Day has been whooping their ass for three weeks. Guess the last time Ohio State was a betting underdog. Wow. Gotta go back a few years. I was going to say it's been what, three, four years? 2023 against Michigan. Geez. And they're not much of an underdog. What is it, one and a half for something? Yeah, it's one and a half. I took Ohio State in one of our... I took Ohio State too. But I... That was an ugly game last year.
It's got to be better than what that game was last year. I remember that Orange Manning was terrible. Ohio State won like 14 to seven. It's just such a different team now with Manning. It's always their offensive line, though. Yeah. Tech offensive line. They're the Texas like, how are they going to perform? My other two we've already talked about a lot. Again, I'm interested because Oregon and Oklahoma State are both interesting teams to me. Early kick, so 9am kick for Oregon on their clock. Keep an eye on it. And then the late game Arkansas at Utah. What do you got? That's an 11am kick. Yeah, 11am kick. Really. It's... Oh, it's Fox. Oh, that's the big nude. I believe so, yes. Okay. All right. I'm going to start with a Friday nighter. Yes. This is what you're going to be watching on Friday night folks. Missouri, Kansas. Old school rivalry that has been taken away from us.
It's at Kansas. Missouri, about a five and a half point favorite. It's border war. I love it. I just... Remember 2008, when these teams were one and two in the country. And they played it arrowhead. Mm-hmm. Oh. What a wild time that was. That was amazing. This is not that, but it's still... Pinkle and Mangino, right? It's a great way to kick off rivalry weekend for a lot of us. Because Iowa and Iowa State are involved in this week. Missouri at Kansas on Friday. On Saturday. Is that... Do we know... Is that a long-term contractor? Is that like a two-year-old? I'm not sure. I don't know. I played last year. I don't know the answer to that. On Saturday, we hit on it briefly when we went through the big 12 games. We have a big 12 game. BYU hosting Arizona. And it's a touchdown spread. Like a real big 12 game. This isn't one of those big 12 non-conference games that we had gotten in years past.
Remember those? Yeah. It's two big 12 teams, but it's not good account to the conference standings or tiebreakers. Now, it's a real game. No off a feet at Arizona coming off a really good year. At BYU, who always, always seems to like be in and around the teens or top 10 in the rankings. And always surprising people. Hank Bachmeier and his brother. The Mormons out there. And you said it's there. This is at the... What is it? It's a 30 kick. Iowa kick, yeah. So, 12.30. There are time. And my last one. Honestly, that's a huge game in the big 12 because you really feel like BYU could be a set-up playoff team this year. And the U.Y.U. has got to be the number two team you're looking at going in season. Absolutely. And then it's Utah. So, if you're a big 12 fan and you just want the league to do well, you're cheering for BYU here.
No doubt. And then my number three, we've also hit on this a little bit. Oklahoma Michigan is really intriguing to me. It's even more intriguing to me after what happened last week. Some might say that the Luster was taken off of it because Michigan's not ranked. They look like shit. I disagree. I don't agree with that. I think... I think this is really interesting. Especially for Iowa fans, like, you want... I want Michigan to win. I want Michigan to find a way to win this game. But the last thing I want is for them to find a way to win this game with CJ Carr's brother. They need to find a way to win with Bryce Underwood with their defense. Love how you just keep calling him CJ Carr. Yeah, because I don't know his name. I'm just calling the Carr kid. Carr kid. CJ's brother is a true freshman. I don't want them getting Underwood out of there. I want Iowa to be able to get after him in a couple of weeks. Because if Michigan loses this game, I don't know where it goes on the schedule.
It's supposed to be a big noon game, most likely, if Michigan wins and if Iowa wins. But I mean, if Michigan doesn't win this game, I don't know where it goes. I don't want that to be another night game. Yeah, and what a challenge for winning him. You know, because you know everybody's just been talking about this clock thing. I'm telling you, like they're going look at like the rankings and like the data. Like their offensive line was dog shit last week. Like it wasn't all this wonderful. They were horrible. They were horrible. It's a lot to get fixed with variables. We'll see. Let's not forget Iowa fans know this very well. 2009 look like dog shit against Northern Iowa, a directional school in your own state that you had no business being in a game with. And you needed two blocked field goals to win the game. And what do you do? You win your next eight games after that. You get into the top three and you have a great season.
You just never know. Yeah, and that's what makes specifically betting on week one of college football so freaking impossible. It was impossible for us. So we're doing a contest together and we are, we are struggling. But we looked at the standings today and pretty much everybody's struggling. Not to the degree that we are. No, we'll get there. Well, let's hope. Let's hope. Well, we're not going to roll over and be a little bitch. It's about it. We're going to keep going. Hey, real quick one. I thought about this one. Just talk through it for a minute. You have any feel on Kentucky plus 10 and a half hosting Alabama? No. None. None. I think Illinois Duke. I like Duke. I like Illinois. I like Illinois. I like Illinois. I like the, and they always say those two teams. I feel like Duke always plays either Illinois or Northwestern and it's always tight. I don't know. I, Duke won the ACC last year. I mean, I know they don't have men said anymore, but I don't think Illinois is that good.
The Illinois might win six games. All right. I think we got the whole weekend covered here. I just, I don't know what else we can. What's coming up on the committee? Well, the committee is Andrew Downs and Trent Conner will be hosting. Downs left me high and dry on instant Iowa last week. I thought you did a good job. It was a good monologue. That was tough. It's tough doing a solo show live like that. Yeah. It is, but it was. And I forgot to bring a water. At least, and I had no chance. I couldn't do anything. There were no breaks or anything. I couldn't get a water. I always find that the first post game show of the year, I've been doing post game shows for a year. I've been doing post game shows for 20 years now. The first is always the easiest because there's so much to talk about. Because you haven't seen any of these guys. Yeah. I could have done three hours of cyclone post game last week because it's like I had never seen any of the players play together. True. You know, there were so many storylines.
So Travis Hines, who covers Iowa State for the Des Moines Register, will make his Iowa everywhere debut. He's never been on Iowa everywhere. He's never been on the CW pod. I don't think Hines has ever been on. Huh. He was one of those KXNO guys. Oh, like I think that he, no, I didn't mean that to bad way, but they had like a show over there and stuff. Like he just, he didn't come over here. So that's fine. Can we get Trent to not wear a baseball cap? He always wears the expose hat everywhere you see him. Jesus. I mean, we're like an Iowa hat or something. No, he's an exposed fan. We're a, we're a Rose Bowl hat. I mean, you can tell him, I'll give you a, you want to pop in on the committee? No, I, dude, this is, this is too much. I'm, I'm scared. What are you scared of? How late we're going on these shows like I, last night at this time I was in bed. Well, you got the NFL.
There's little, we're not even to the second half of this NFL game right now. I'd like to rant about that. By the way, why in the fuck are we kicking off on a Wednesday night? That's a good question. I hate this. I hate it. I'm not even screw this. I don't understand that either. I did find out. So this is the first time in 14 years that we've kicked off on a Wednesday in the NFL. So I looked up why the hell in 2012 did they kick off on a Wednesday? Any ideas? No. Barack Obama was giving some kind of like acceptance speech on Thursday night for winning the nomination again for the presidency. So they changed the NFL. Yes, yes. The NFL didn't want to interfere with that. So they moved the Thursday game to Wednesday. So this is stupid and I equally hate, actually I hate even more the Australia thing.
Oh, we actually, Australia is tomorrow. I don't like this. I don't like the international games either. It's bullshit. The Rams just arrived in Melbourne. And then they played them on a week. They're 24 hours from playing. We actually have some news on rescheduling. I was state moved next year's season opener a week earlier to week zero. Well, there is no week zero. That's week one now. I'm still, I still think they're going to call it week zero. I don't think they are. They're going to call it. Wait, so I was not going to play in week one. No, it's still says week zero. Yeah, asshole. On the official. Well, I said, well, I'm telling you. That doesn't matter. All that matters is we let me talk. They moved it there. So now they're going to have a by week before Iowa. I don't know. I don't know how to analyze this. This is never. Did you just say analyze? I don't know how to analyze this.
Did you hear the Iowa state defensive lineman this week? He was asked. Bryson Lamb. I think it was Jack Lido. Was asking him, you know, you're going up against a force man. I mean, you're facing the Joe Moore award winning offensive line of the country with several NFL players on this line. And is it Bryson Lamb? Now, where did he come from? Washington state. Washington state. He's a fifth year guy. Yeah. Did you hear what he said? I did. Do we have that Van Wilk? We got it. Yeah, we play five online and tight ends every week. So, you know, yeah. I like it. Iowa fans are taking that and running with it. Well, they should. It's part of nothing. There's nothing. What else is he going to say? What do you want him to say? Like, we're terrified. I'm so scared. So scared of Iowa.
Fans this week will take anything as a slight. Like, I tweeted out for Iowa state fans to watch the A&F pod. Yeah. Today, and like a couple people were like, one the fuck would you tweet out and Iowa podcast? I'm not sliding Iowa state. I'm saying like these guys, you can learn a lot from them. Like, that's all I'm saying. People just get mad. People want to be mad. Iowa state fans are going to be sad. Bryson Lamb is like, he's probably like 23 years old. That guy's not like, what is he going to say? Is that supposed to be older young for a college football player? That's old for a college football player. Because some of these guys are like 26 and 27. That's true. I guess it is a totally different, totally different world. All right, get up. It's game day. What, well, we already did that. Let's do our cheers to the freaking weekend. Cheers to the freaking weekend. Let's raise our glass of steeple ridge bourbon.
You're sitting here bitch. Get up. It's cheers to the weekend. You're sitting here bitch and I'm going to produce the committee coming up next. You know what we need? We need a committee. You know, you know who would be great to have on that committee? Let's get us a committee. Condoleezza Rice. She would be, you know, nobody knows college football like Condie. We got, let's have her on the committee. Apparently, Sam Darnold Tert. Did you see Britt McKenry is now like, like the, I don't know what, the press secretary or something like that. Shut up, are you serious? Yeah. Isn't she the one who worked at ESPN and like, cussed out that parking? Yes. She's something, she's something with Trump at the White House now. Well, I knew the last I had heard about her, she was like a sports reporter in DC. Well, that's what she was before she came to ESPN. She was a sports reporter in DC. Did you ever work with her? Yeah, I did. Was she nice? She was fine. Yeah, fine. I didn't have like, I didn't never hung out with her or anything.
She was cordial. So she didn't cuss you out like that parking guard? What was it that she was upset about? I don't know. I just remember it was her and like a parking garage and it was videotape. And she got, I don't know if she got fired or... Speaking of people I used to work with at ESPN, Barry Melrose, RIP, a word that he has passed away. He's been sick for several years with... Oh, man. I don't know if it was Alzheimer's or dementia, one of those debilitating diseases. Barry was so much fun to work with exactly like he was on TV, but even more fun. Just a great guy. He's a guy. You do walking around the ESPN campus. It's a Tuesday night. It's 6.30. You're walking to the cafeteria to get a bite to eat. And he's just sitting there on the bench by himself smoking a cigar.
That kind of guy. And then he just wants to get into the room with all the TVs and put every game on the TVs. Just... He was a character, a personality. Like, that's when you think of ESPN hockey? Oh, he's... It's Barry Melrose. Yeah. And he looked the part, too. Totally. And, I mean, he had the chops, too. I mean, he led the LA Kings to... He was the coach when they went to the Stanley Cup Final with Wayne Gretzky back 30 plus years ago. I was so sad to hear that he had come down with that disease. Several years ago, and had to step away from TV and... Gone way too soon. What is he? Only 70 years old. Yeah. Born in 1956. Well, that's cool here in your memories of him.
Damn. He was just an awesome guy. Just... You know, some of these guys in the business, you know how it is. You meet them and it's like, hey. And then it's ruined. Yeah, totally. They always say don't meet your heroes. I'm going to get to meet one of them in their cool. It's awesome. I don't know if it was me or if it was SVP walking in. It was the exact same. Well, as much as I admire SVP, I would pick you. Oh, I appreciate that, Chris. Cheers to the freaking weekend. How are you going to watch this game? Are you just hanging out at home? What are you doing? Probably. We have soccer. At least it has soccer during the game. You can't miss the game. No, soccer is during the day. I'm so pissed that this is a night game. Yeah, I wish it was 230. God. Last year was perfect. I know a bunch of friends. I know a bunch of friends are getting together. So I'll probably hang around there and just make sure I can watch it. But yeah, it's fun weekend. I'm not going to the game. I'd rather be here for Psycho and Fanatic and Iowa ever post game shows.
So I've instant Iowa State and instant Iowa, of course, after the game. I know that you'll be locked in for that as well. Yeah, remind us how we're doing that again. We'll be able to go at the same time. Instant Iowa and instant Iowa State. Correct. On two separate feeds on Matt, Iowa everywhere network. Matt, can you help with that? Yep, two separate feeds on YouTube, for sure. Okay, and then I think Matt has a little baby with him. Yeah, and then do you have a third kid? There is a situation with the Facebook pages. So I don't know if anyone will be on the Iowa everywhere one. Don't worry about that. Just go to your page. Just go to your page. It's just so much better and it's easier. Go to YouTube. We want you to go to YouTube. Yeah, hopefully everyone has a great weekend. I hope you enjoyed tonight. But we're going to wrap this thing up and we're going to throw it over to Andrew Downes and Trent Conn at the committee of Travis Hines and David Ikeult are joining them tonight to do a breakdown of the site. I don't know why, but the picture that you guys used for David Ikeult, I thought when you threw that up, I thought it was Clay Travis at first.
And David looks nothing like Clay Travis, but it's a tiny picture. And it's just like, whoa, what is Clay Travis coming on to talk about tonight? No, David Ikeult from Hawkeye Inside of 24 or 7 Sports. We've been following them for updates on the quarterback situation. I'm interested to hear the latest news that David has on that on how this quarterback situation might look this week for the Hawkeyes. There you go. The committee is coming up next for Chris Hassel for Matt Vimwinkel. I'm Chris Williams. Thanks to our sponsor Fairway Meat and Grocery. We'll be back on Sunday night or first Sunday night show of the year. Later.
