I'm Alex O'Soleff for the Wall Street Journal. The US labor market says the economy added 162,000 jobs in August, a much stronger result than anticipated. The unemployment rate also stayed steady at a historically low level of 4.1%. The labor department also revised the jobs counts for June and July higher. The new data will likely allow the Federal Reserve to focus squarely on inflation when it meets later this month.

1:02Federal regulators say they are investigating Tesla's new Robotaxi model the day after its public launch in Austin, Texas. The two-seater gold cybercabs don't have steering wheels or pedals. A new public filing shows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is auditing technical data behind Tesla's claim that the Robotaxi meets all applicable safety standards. If the vehicle isn't compliant, the agency could order a recall or issue major fines. Tesla didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Also in EVs, we're exclusively reporting that electric trucking startup Windrose technology is running low on funds and workers. About 100 workers in China have left the company over unpaid wages. People familiar with the matter say the company only partially paid back wages following a labor arbitration. Windrose's CEO says he's restructuring the startup away from designing truck bodies. The company instead will focus on software for trucks. And Nepal's army has rescued two men alive from a hydro power tunnel nine days after a deadly flood
