U.S. Seeks $200B for Iran War, Despite Ample Funds

On March 22nd, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besan says the government has plenty of money

right now to fight the war with Iran, but they're asking.

Congress for extra funds anyway to keep the military fully stocked moving forward.

The request could top $200 billion.

Though President Trump hasn't sent it to lawmakers yet, and the final number might shift.

Besan also made clear there won't be any tax hikes to cover it.

With Democrats and some Republicans questioning the need after last summer's big defense boost of $100,

$56 billion.

Early costs have already topped $11 billion in just the first six days,

making this potentially the most expensive U.S. conflict since Iraq.

And Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth stressed the funds cover both recent actions and future needs.

Besan defended easing oil sanctions on Iran and Russia too,

saying it stops prices from jumping to $150 a barrel while letting.

Allies like Japan and South Korea buy in and capping extra revenue for those countries

at about $2 billion for Russia.

All this sets up a big debate in Congress as the administration pushes to stay ahead in the fight.
