UK Court Orders Lynch Estate to Pay $1.24B in Autonomy Fraud Case

On March 24, a UK high court judge has ordered the estate of late tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch

to pay Hewlett-Packard Enterprise $1.24 billion in damages and interest over the fraudulent

2011 sale of his software firm, Autonomy.

The ruling came Tuesday, building on a 2022 decision that found Lynch and his finance

chief guilty of inflating Autonomy's value.

Before HPE's $11.7 billion buy-out, which later led to an $8.8 billion write-down by the

buyer.

Lynch, often called Britain's Bill Gates, died at age 59 in the Super Yacht sinking off

Sicily last year, along with his teenage daughter, Head, been cleared of related U.S. criminal

charges just before that trip.

His widows survived with her own separate assets, but the estate valued around 500 million

pounds, now faces potential bankruptcy from the massive payout.

While the judge denied permission to appeal the fraud-finding or damages amount, the estate

could still push the case to the court of appeal, leaving.

The long-running dispute hanging in the balance for now.
