UNC Parts Ways with Hubert Davis, Search for New Coach Begins

On March 25, big news from college basketball in Chapel Hill.

The University of North Carolina has parted ways with men's basketball head coach Hubert Davis

after five seasons leading the Tar Heels. As leaded director Bubba Cunningham and incoming

director Steve Newmark, recommended the move, which Chancellor Lee Roberts approved on Tuesday.

They stressed the need for the program to compete more consistently at the highest level.

Davis leaves with strong ties to UNC. He played for the Tar Heels from 1988 to 1992,

logged 12 NBA seasons, then spent nine years as an assistant under. Roy Williams,

helping win the national title in 2017. He stepped up as head coach in April 2021.

School leaders praised his character, loyalty, and impact as a player, coach, and community figure.

UNC plans to honor the terms of his contract fully.

Now a national search is underway, led by Cunningham and Newmark.

They brought in the executive search firm, turn keys the RG, and will consult an advisory

group of former players, coaches, and supporters to find the right fit and restore that Tar Heel Edge.
