Well, I'm so glad you asked. Coming up later, Carolina hosting ETSU for the first home game of the season. We're going to look at, hey look, yes, it's an overmatched opponent, but what do we need to learn about Carolina from this game? We'll give you four things for that. Before that, we're going to talk ACC basketball schedule release. We're going to look at some superlatives, toughest three game stretch, trap game, all that. I'm going to pull Josh with an over under win total for ACC play. The first we just want to talk about one on earth, the ACC actually kind of took care of Carolina. I didn't think that would ever happen. I do one quick kind of somber note, Marlow, as we, this show's coming out on Friday 9-11. Dude, it's the 25th anniversary of this day that is such a critical day in our country. This history very much for me, a remember where you were kind of moment.

3:08And I imagine for so many other people in our nation as well. Marlow, do you, how old were you on 9-11? You remember? Yeah, I was, I was four at the time, but believe it or not, it's going to surprise you. I was already in kindergarten. I started school early because of where my birthday fell and how they determined all of that. It wasn't because I was smart. It wasn't because I was an overachiever. I just had a lucky birthday that allowed me to get into school early. So I don't really remember it. I mean, my dad told me that he had to come get me from school. Interesting. My dad, everyone got sent home from work because if I have it right, they were, they were worried that there may be an issue in the Charlotte area. So pretty much like my neck of the woods, pretty much shut down, bunker down, because they didn't know what was, what was going to happen next. But it's obviously a sad day. Yeah. It's crazy to think that it's already been 25 years.

4:15I do kind of get into the, I'm like I said, the coverage, but like the documentaries I'll watch, some of the different features, you know, as a met fan, one of the great moments of met history, it's met is Mike Piazza's home run. Yes, I remember that. When against your braves when they returned. Yep. And it's just in a day where we're still so divided as a country, it feels like this is the one day where we find common ground, no matter how old you are, how young you are, whether you had a firsthand experience or not, a lot of innocent lives were lost that day. And it feels like it's one day we can put our differences aside and try to honor those that lost their lives in a way that they shouldn't have. That's a good word, Marlowe. Yeah, I was a senior in high school. The morning this happened and so very, very ingrained in my mind and something you said is so true. In my 42 years of life, this season, as difficult as it was, this season in America was the most

5:16unified I have ever felt in our country. And so yeah, dude, right with what you said with that and there was so much fear of was this an accident? Oh no, because there was a second plane and then the pentagon. There was all this fear of who knows where they're aiming for next. So everybody kind of bunker down it. It was a weird time, but really rallied us as a country. So just as Marlowe said, thoughts and prayers to everyone who was affected by that, whether directly or just like, I'm an American and this was awful. Man, high school Isaac was terrified that day. I remember that. All right, Marlowe, no way to just do it other than to make a hard right turn back to basketball. So here we go. I know, obviously we've known the opponents for a long time now. We knew that Carolina was going to have to play Duke twice because they always do in Louisville twice, which is going to be tough. But I tell you what, Marlowe, when I look at the shape of this schedule, it feels for the first time in a while, even with some big Monday moments and other things that this

6:16is a manageable schedule for the Tar Heels, agree or disagree? No, I totally agree with that sentiment shade. And we've got to see how ultimately all these games play out. The games that we think might be easy might turn out to be tough. The games that we think might be tough might turn out to be easy depending on how good Carolina is, depending on how good the opponents are. I don't know how you get the schedule and look at it. There's two things that I do when I first get the schedule. It's one, I check to see when the two Duke games are. You know when the second one is going to be obviously, where's the first one? It's important to bring this up because right now, we're the schedule for Saturday, February 13th. Why is that important? Sunday is Valentine's Day. What is also on Valentine's Day? The Super Bowl. That's right. You're a Carolina fan and you've got a significant other. You need to make your plans to take your wife out, your husband out. For me, it'll be taken eighth in the out on Friday, February 12th.

7:19Okay. There is a no go because the greatest robbery and sports is renewing itself. Sunday, it's the Super Bowl. Maybe you push it back to Monday because it's President's Day and the corporate world takes that day off. We do not in radio. But maybe you just go ahead and plan for that Friday. Then I always check to see the Saturday Monday turn around. That's the first thing that I look at and to my knowledge and correct me if I'm wrong. I only see one Saturday. There's two. There's two. You have XSE February 6th and 8th, Georgia Tech and Louisville. I've got to pull it up on screen. I've got to split those games right home. I see it there at Wake Forest, home against Miami. But you're not traveling all that forward, even make that road trip to Wake Forest. That's how I look at the schedule is. Where are the two the two doot games? Where are Saturday Monday turn around? Only two of them, two very manageable ones. I think that was one of the things that took away from the schedule that on paper looks

8:21very favorable to for Michael Malone in his first season, navigating the ACC. I think there's a couple things from in that what you just said, Marlo. Number one is in this day and age with the portal in NIL, it really is so insanely difficult to know who's going to be what, particularly when they don't have much returning consistency. And so part of it is all we can know is what we see. And so you make a great point there. But on paper, it does seem very manageable. Also, typically Carolina does have two of these big Monday, Saturday Monday turn around every year. But it's almost always, each weekend is one home, one away game, and they kind of flip flop. Usually, like if the first of those Saturday Mondays is like your home then away, the next one is away then home. Carolina got done a solid here because on the first of it, both of those are on at home.

9:21Then that leads into the Duke game. So you get five days before that game, you play the Duke game at Cameron fine. But then you get a whole week off. Carolina doesn't play midweek after the first Duke game. And then it's the other turn around and yes, you got a home game. But as you said, you're only going to Winston Salem. It's at wake and then you host Miami. So some difficult opponents in that stretch, absolutely. But the way the schedule forms itself right there is very doable for the Tar Heels and man, I just, I'm shocked, Marlow, I'm shocked, I tell you. Yeah. Um, I, there's usually a stretch when I look at it where I get a little uneasy and I'm like, yeah, that might be a rough week of podcast where Carolina doesn't play very well. I get very angry, I get no sleep and I just complain for an hour. And that very well may, they may play out like I knew last year, I knew when they went out west, it was going to be, it was going to be a long week.

10:25Yep. And then the way Carolina played just, just compounded and made it, it made it even worse. But when you have a stretch where you've got three or four on the road as very early at BC at Louisville, at Florida State. I think Carolina could go two and one in those in those games. They've got a stretch with the pit or the, the first Duke game where they play four or five on the road. They go to the final road game at. Got it pulled up on screen here for those watching. Yep. Yeah. I think Carolina could go, you know, three and one in those games because I, I just, I don't like admitting that we're going to lose to Duke. I just go into every year expecting a split. They went on their home floor. Sure. I think that's the thing is that, you know, there's not that port where, you know, I, okay, they're going to maybe drop three on the four. I don't, and, and shade, this is even if Carol is a top 25 caliber team or not. A lot of preseason, pro castinator say no.

11:27I think they're wrong. But I look at the schedule and think Carolina is going to be able to, to stack wins and, and really build up a really big win number under Michael Malone combined with the non conference schedule that is has its moments too, but it's also very manageable in the noncon where you're, I think you expect Carolina to win double digit games and I think that should excite Carolina fans. And for those people that are still on the fence, I think if Michael Malone can get us team to play a consistent level and ACC competition, something that we failed to do under Hubert Davis and we're winning games, it'll make people buy in more so than they they have refused to do so so far. And, and the one thing we can't forget as you talk about noncon is there will be the game against Illinois in Nashville wedged in between the, the game against SMU at home on January 26th.

12:28A Tuesday that's the day after the national championship game and then the national championship football game I should say and then February 2nd at Notre Dame and they play that Saturday right before that in Nashville. So that's something to keep in mind as well. All right, Marlon, I got some superlatives to look at here with this whole thing with the schedule. Toughest three game stretch, trap game, most important non-duke home game, things like that plus I'm going to pose an over under win total and see where we're at all of that more coming up in just a second right after I tell you about five hour energy. Now I want to go granular on some of the games, do some superlative type things. So what I want to look at first is what in your mind is the toughest three game stretch of this schedule and for those watching, I'm going to pull it back up on camera. I've got to that stand out to me, Isaac. It's the February 8th home game against Louisville. Very well could be Seth Trimble's return game to Chapel Hill, the February 13th game when you go to Duke.

15:34And then you mentioned you have that week off, but you do go to Wake Forest. And I don't know what Wake Forest is going to be this year. If I know Steve Forbes in that program, going to be a game they need to have if they want to go to the NCAA tournament, even with the expansion, there's somehow still going to be on the bubble. It's just written down Wake Forest basketball, what will exist to be on the Instaway Tournament bubble. The other one to me and tell me how you think about this January 5th at Louisville. This is this is what I was going to. Yes, really? Okay. I'm with the home date against NC State, the ACC game against NC State. Thank you. And then the January 13th game at Florida State, because if people didn't watch, I'd say the ACC top to bottom last year, Isaac, there wasn't a more improved team in the conference, the back half of conference play last year than Florida State.

16:36One hundred percent. And what Luke Louch was able to establish last year, that foundation. I don't know if the Lover reached the highs that they got to previously, but under Leonard Hamilton. I think that's going to be a program flirting in the expanded tournament era to get back to March madness. We know the Tucker Center never an easy place to go in and play. You've got the emotion of the home game against NC State. How does Carolina come off that that hopefully a win? So I think that one probably is the most underrated one, because people will look at, well, Florida State, they're no good. Look at what Luke Louch did last year. I saw them in person in the ACC tournament. That's a coach that's got to, he's going somewhere. And obviously we know how much Louis was invested. That's not going to be an easy game, the State game. I think you spent Carolina. It's a robbery game. That to me was the second stretch that stood out the most. But what's so funny is when I looked at this as I was preparing for my three game stretch,

17:39I thought, I bet Marlow's going to go Louisville at Duke at Wake. So where can I pivot from that? And literally that was my thing, because Louisville is going to be so good. And then State, it like coming off last year where they played once, obviously they will have already played non-com, but that's going to be a big game. And then as long as they keep the lights on in Tallahassee, unlike what they did on Monday night, hopefully. Carolina can go down there, but it's never easy place to go play. If I had to come up with another one, Marlow, here's what I would go with is January 19th through 26th. You host Virginia, who I think will battle Duke for like regular to win the ACC, then you got to go up to Syracuse. Never like that's late January. It's going to be gross up there. You don't know what to expect. And then you come home and host SMU, who's been very, very solid. They don't have Boopy anymore, but they've got some more dudes in. I think that is a little bit of a tricky three game stretch as well.

18:40So just another thing to watch out for. Marlow, next one up. Most dangerous trap game on the conference slate. I looked at February 27th at Virginia Tech. Interesting. That's a great call. Zoom in here. As NIO will return to Blacksburg, we'll return to Castle Coliseum. In my lifetime, I don't know if I've ever watched Carolina win a game there and they played well. Usually when they win, they just get out of there. But you know, and I went there because you've got the game against Miami before that. Yep. And we got to figure out if what Miami was last year was like, is that sustainable? Was that where they were? They had one off team in the portal area where it all came together and they played at a high level. But you also look at the fact that the next game is Pittsburgh and it's a road game. And that has morphed into a rivalry between the two programs.

19:45I know for me as a fan, I hate them. I can't stand them. Thank you Jason. So you know, because of the capel brothers and their actions. So I would probably take at Virginia Tech as maybe the biggest trap game that exists on this schedule. You can always qualify the Boston College game because there's going to be like 12 people in that gym and they'll all be Carolina fans. Yep. And you got a little bit. You're at Louisville right after that three days. Exactly. Like how much are they looking forward to go play in that game because that game I think is going to matter for top four standing. So those are probably the two games that had lined the most. Mine is February 6th hosting Georgia Tech because right after that, Louisville on Monday, two days later. And then you go to Duke the very next Saturday. Thankfully, this game is at home rather than being down in Atlanta. But we've seen some Georgia Tech trap games before a couple of years ago. Carolina lost to Georgia Tech. I believe that was the RJ Davis game where they didn't call the foul where if he hits

20:49those three throws were tied that whole game. Carolina loses that after knocking off Duke. And so I'm looking at that Georgia Tech game. All right. Most important, non-Duke, because obviously we would always say Duke, but most important non-Duke home game. I think shade. If South Trimble was able to play for Louisville, a lot of Carolina fans are going to go that route. And understandably and rightfully so. Maybe it's just the Carolina and me that I can't take out. I'm going to look at that NC State game. That'll be Michael Malone's thought about that first home game against arrival. And I'm excited to see what the game in Greensboro is like. I plan on being there, whether it's as a member of the media or as a as a as a paying fan,

21:51that environment will still be a lot different than what Michael Malone coaches then front of them in front of his home crowd. And you know, I know Will Wage no longer there. They've actually got a likable dude that's running the program now. Justin Ganey. I, but the animosity for me has not lessened. He's he's he's the look back through and through. Guess what? I can find a way to hate your butt. So and because we don't get the we don't get the return game in their building, we get we get the noncon game. This is the only ACC matchup between the two schools. I want to make sure we win the ACC matchup. Like if I got a sacrifice, it was again, the noncon. I wouldn't want to do it. But I would I would I would take the trade. If you tell me they beat us in Greensboro, we get them back in Chapel Hill, especially especially for what happened last year and how they ran their mouse after meeting a team with that their two best players by 24 points and it was literally the highlight of their

22:51season. I will go there, but I understand the argument for that home game against Louisville. Maybe that home game against Miami if the hurricanes are what they were a year ago or even Virginia. Yeah, because as you mentioned, you think they're going to they're going to compete to win the to to go to win the ACC and that's exactly why that's my pick. I'm going with the January 19th game at home against Virginia. I think when you think about, you know, we always start talking about tie breakers in the unbalanced schedule and getting that top four. If there's tie, you go to the top of the standings. And so Carolina plays Virginia once similar to Miami, oh, by the way, and both of those games are only at home. And so honestly, if you could win both of those, but I'm going to hone in on Virginia. If you win that game, I think it could do wonders for you from a resume standpoint. As come NCI selection time could also do wonders for you in ACC standings and tie breaker scenarios. I think that game is pivotal. All right, Marla, last question on this before we turn our attention to ETSU over under

23:54their 18 games in ACC play over under 12 and a half wins for the Tar Heels. Oh, shady, baby. I'm I'm cash in the over on that one. Now how would I have to go to make you think hard about it? Probably just 13 and a half thing. It that's what I almost did. If I'm being honest and you know what, I hate it when you lie to me. So yes, be honest. If I if I'm looking at the schedule right now, and I'm and I'm giving you two and I'm telling you, these are the games that I would not not expect Carolina to lose, but would understand if Carolina lost those two games, those games to me are at Louisville and at Duke. I think the other losses that would make sense would be that home game to Virginia because

25:00Virginia, I think is going to be a preseason top 10 team. They're going to I think compete for a really high seed come selection Sunday. And I'm talking they could play themselves. If they play themselves to the two line, I would not be surprised. That's you know, you bring everybody back. You got Ryan out of one of your sidelines. Yeah, man. I think it's fair to expect some big things from from the Wahos. And then you know, you could sell me on them, go into a you know, a Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and get in because those are just tricky places to go win. Whether those schools are good or not, I'm not going to concede that Carolina gets swept by Duke. I'm not going to concede that Carolina gets swept by Louisville. I think you expect to win those games in Chapel Hill. So I've got them preliminary right now. I've got them going 14 and four in the ACC and you know, we have to see how the math

26:02will play out, but Shay, do they get 14 and four? I would bet they finished top four in the league. They get a double buy that puts them at 24, 25 wins. You would imagine going into the ACC tournament. Michael Malone would have a lot of momentum and energy positively going into his first ACC in his subway tournaments. Gosh, man, I can get behind that. I love it. Marlow going over 12 and a half, going over 13 and a half, sitting in 14 and four on the record. All right, Carolina won their first game of the football season against TCU and now they get their first home game of the season against an over matched ETSU team. So the question always is. What can we actually learn from this game? 29:10My man, Carolina want to know, obviously this is a different caliber, a different tier of opponent. So what I want us to investigate is what can be learned from a match up of this nature. You and I have each come up with two things that we're going to share with the good people here today. Why don't you kick us off, Marlow, what are you watching for that we can take away from this game? To me, Shay, this is a game where like who Carolina is going to be their identity, what the culture is should be on display. There's not a secret. They've got to navigate some off the field controversy because that's North Carolina football under Bill Belichick. That's North Carolina football. It feels like an in-nutshell the majority of my lifetime. Where's their head at? Where's their preparation at for an opponent that they expect it to dominate? I want to know what from TCU is going to carry over. Something that is a Carolina fan that goes to games or watches games at home, I can expect

30:12to see every time I watch this team play. I think you look at the defensive effort and just the way they competed. Their ability to make adjustments in game. I think those are two things where I think I want to see does that carry over into this game? Something that I'm hoping to be in the stadium still waiting on word about that. I want to be able as I'm walking out of Keenan to look at Pags and say, hey, we know that every time we take the field, this is going to be there. That's a great way to call that, man. That's something that I think we never got to last year. You expect that in year two with the program that is telling you we're in a much better spot this time of the year than we were a year ago. I think you want to see some of the players and what the plays they made. Was that a flash in the pan or some of these dudes that we're making plays against TCU and Ireland? Are they going to make those same plays here, stateside? For me, Marlow, the first one is a lot of times coming out of game one, you wonder about

31:15some positional battles. A lot of times the quarterback thing is at the top of mind. We might have gotten more answers on that. I don't know. We're going to talk about it in a minute. The main thing is a mystery to me is the running back room. I got more questions than I had going into game one. The first thing I'm hoping to learn from this is do we get any more clarity in terms of the running back hierarchy? Ben Hall started the game, which had become this thing all off season. I thought it was going to be ju-ju-ju-ju. The closer we got to the season, it became clear and evident that Ben Hall was going to be RB1 out of the gate. He was, but then the wacky thing was that it was Jalen McGill that came in, did the work after that, scored Carolina's loan touchdown of game one. We saw June. He took the backfield a couple of times with Ben Hall. I like to see that double running back look. Curious if they'll use that more. But ju-ju never got a carry until the most critical drive of this football game. Joshua Marlow. There's four minutes left.

32:17Carolina needed a drive and boy did they get it. I was other than that to lay a game. It was Chef's Kiss Beautiful. But ju-ju-ju got every single carry on that drive. What's going on is Hall the starter is June the closer coming out of the pole pin in the ninth inning. What's going on? I need more clarity. That's what I hope to learn. Yeah. I've often compared him to what Ryan Houston was when I first got into watching Carolina football and they had Sean Dron, they had Anthony Elsey. But when it got the fourth quarter, they gave the ball to the battering Ram. I would like to see him involved before the fourth quarter. But if it's going to lead to wins, I don't think I'm going to complain. I don't think he's going to complain. The second thing for me shade is we've now got a game. We now got some film. You've had a week off. How has Billy Edwards grown in the offense? And how has Bobby Patrino tinker the offense to still maximize his quarterbacks ability?

33:23Look, I saw some of the all 22 footage. Patrino was doing what Patrino was brought here today. They were due to. There were two throws that had Carolina lost the game. We would have honed in on and say if Billy makes these two throws, how different is the result? I guess at least one of them, where he just overthrew ship in the end zone. That was one. And there were two balls that he was high on that probably more often than I get intercepted. Didn't happen because circumstances, maybe because the game was in Dublin and the ball was what I don't know. Yeah, I wondered about that. Yeah, yeah. But so like that, that's for me. I thought, as you mentioned, outside of the delay game, I thought everything else that he did was why Carolina chose to start him and why you never saw my Ozoneo play was because he just controlled and managed the game. With that being said, why I've talked about my Ozoneo so much is that I thought he could

34:24elevate this offense because there's more potential in his arm. Yeah, I need to see Billy Edwards grow. I need to see Billy Edwards take that next step, not misdose throws against an FCS opponent. I'll be interested to see what he looks like because the point total and the yardage may not suggest it, but the Patrina effect was real in terms of what Carolina was running. It was just the execution that didn't hold up. It's into the bargain. And to your point about the wet ball, it's like how much have been affected the weather play on that? I'm curious to see on a dry Saturday at Keenan Stadium how this comes together. And Marlow, my second thing and the fourth thing that we're watching for here is the Jalani Thurman follow up, dude, I'm all aboard the hype drain. This dude is insane. With all due respect to Jordan ship, might be Carolina's best offensive playmaker. It's just like when you get a tight end that you can utilize more like a wide receiver and can yak and do all these things, you have to find ways to utilize it.

35:28So much more important because we saw how underutilized Carolina's tight end room was last year coming off of all these years where you had Bryson Nezbit and all these dudes that were able to make plays, which by the way, Bryson Nezbit, why didn't you go down on that on-side kick at App State of Cuppie? Anyway, I digress. Dude, I think he can be a game changer for Carolina, but I'm curious to see the follow-up. I think against ETSU, absolutely. But what are you doing to prepare him for the two teams that come next Clemson and Notre Dame? Because I know Clemson just got embarrassed, but that LSU defense is sump serious, man. And I don't think there is bad as we saw the other night. But got to utilize Jalani Thurman. But I think the other thing that kind of comes around with that is you know you got Thurman, you know you got ship. Marlow, I need to know. Who is that third playmaker? Is it Kekehuna? Is it, you know, God, there's just a cup. There's about three options there that I'm watching to be pass catcher number three.

36:28And I need to see who that is, but you got to keep rocking with Thurman. Yeah, no, that's a fair question. I would probably lean Kekehuna. And if he doesn't have that fumble, who knows how we review his first game as a Taruel. I just think that's a guy in Patrinos offense is only going to grow and put up more consistent numbers than what you saw. I know CJ Sadler is a name that they float around big time over there. You know, that's the thing is they upgraded their skill position groups. The tight end rooms better, the water see room is better. You've got the guys in the running back room. I don't think she's ever going to be an offense at moving the ball up and down the field and winning games scoring 45 50 points. I don't think they want to play that way. What that being said, you've got to have at least another person that he assessed to account for. This is a great game of rate opponent to find that next that next pass catcher target. That's a good word, my man. I'm going to be a lot of fun. And ultimately, maybe to tie a bow on it, a fifth thing is can Carolina absolutely dominate
