Fi: Kevät teki tuloaan Helsingin keskustassa.
En: Spring was making its way into downtown Helsinki.
Fi: Aseman edessä olevat kirsikkapuut alkoivat kukkia.
En: The cherry trees in front of the station began to bloom.
Fi: Ihmiset kiirehtivät junilleen.
En: People hurried to their trains.
Fi: Mikko istui penkillä, katse vaelteli ihmismassassa.
En: Mikko sat on a bench, his gaze wandering through the crowd.
Fi: Hän oli usein ajatuksissaan.
En: He often found himself deep in thought.
Fi: Ehkä tänään olisi erilainen päivä, hän ajatteli.
En: Maybe today would be a different day, he thought.
Fi: Mikon ajatus katkesi, kun hän huomasi pienen, kuluneen päiväkirjan penkillä vieressään.
En: Mikko's thought was interrupted when he noticed a small, worn-out diary on the bench beside him.

Fi: Mikko vastasi innokkaana, "Tarvitsen teidän apuanne."
En: Mikko replied excitedly, "I need your help."
Fi: Juhani kohautti olkiaan.
En: Juhani shrugged.
Fi: "Yritetään sitten.
En: "Let's give it a try.
Fi: Mutta jos emme löydä mitään, vien sen itse toimistoon."
En: But if we don't find anything, I'll take it to the office myself."
Fi: He alkoivat tutkia päiväkirjaa yhdessä.
En: They began to examine the diary together.
Fi: Tekstit olivat arvoituksia ja kirjoitettu eri kielillä.
En: The texts were riddles written in different languages.
Fi: Aino, joka luki saksaa, auttoi kääntämään ensimmäisen arvoituksen.
En: Aino, who could read German, helped translate the first riddle.
