Upcoming ITMA Events In Miltown Malbay

0:00Milter and Malbe is gearing up for a great program of traditional music, which free daytime classes for adult musicians and two intimate life performances, coming up later this month and joining me to tell us more about the events, the musicians involved and the importance of keeping the traditional live is Lima Brian from the Irish traditional music archive. Liem, good morning to you. How are you, Ellen? How are you? Very well. Thanks very much for coming in. First before we get into the program and the other bits and barbs, talk to us a little bit about this. The ITMA, the Irish traditional music archive, how long has this been going concern and what's your objective? I spoke, yeah, so the Irish traditional music archive, where they're based in Dublin, up in Marion Square, they've gone 40 years next year. Basically they just digitize and preserve Irish traditional music, song or dance and then make it accessible for the public for free. That's their goal. They've been going collecting music isn't a new thing, you know, it's been going for years upon years. So yeah, I suppose with the clear office,

1:02it's the first regional office in Ireland and there was a backlog of clear material. I was just going to say if the regional office was going to be anywhere, it would have to be the home of Irish traditional music. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that can be debated over other countries. Yeah, there was a backlog of about 10,000 items, do you know? So they needed someone to sit down and go through us. Yeah, and digitize it or catalog us, do you know, get it right, clear, make it accessible. So we decided to open an office in Milton Malbec and since we've opened, another 8,000 items has come in, you know. So I was about to ask you, we met slowly, but surely making your way through all of that work, but you've actually ended up a bit more. But anyway, I guess that's great. It just shows how much is out there and you want to archive it and be aware of it. Yeah, and look at whenever we'll get to, at least it'll be safe and it'll be, so it's safer to know in a controlled environment rather than, you know, a damp attic, you know, just to be able to, or as we've seen in the last while, it can end up in a dump if people are clear. Yeah, and that's it. At least it'll be kept somewhere safe and kept, kept alive under your watch.

2:05So talk to us a bit about how this program, free program of events coming up in Milton Malbec fits into your, your raise on that, or what can people expect over the next few weeks? Yeah, like that, do not worry. We're an archive that people can engage with, do not, it doesn't just go into another attic, you know, so we, we've asked, we've seen a huge demand for adult classes in the last while, and do not adults, especially when it comes to classes and instruments and playing music, they were, they were, it was often left to decide because it's not family life to go over, jobs or whatever. So we see it and a lot of people come back to music. So we decided to basically set up a pilot series of free adult daytime classes, which is 11 to 1. The first month is going to be a Mary Mac. The second month is Shaman peoples and all five guests of last week. Those sessions are already full though for anyone who's getting interested, but if people want to find out details about the other ones and sign up, how did they go about that?

Yeah, so we have about six months of classes lined up. You, if you're returning to music, you're absolutely more than welcome. If it's an instrument specific class, we'll say, Josephine Marsh, now is on the 10th of November. He's a cardian player, animal, too, instrumentless, but you don't have to play the cardians. It's called it's a repertoire based. It's based on tunes, based on playing with other people in a, you know, a nice environment. Okay. Nice way to go about it and to learn. And just before we finish, you do have to quickly mention these gigs coming up on the 19th and 20th and 19th.
