US Destroys Iran's Kharg Island Defenses

President Donald Trump announced that American forces have destroyed all military defenses

on Iran's Carg Island, the main hub for its oil exports.

This strike targeted only defenses and spared the oil facilities, which handle most of Iran's

crude shipments to the world.

Carg Island sits in the Persian Gulf, near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital choke point

for global oil trade.

Iran has blocked the Strait, holding up over 1,000 cargo ships and disrupting about

one-fifth of the world's oil supply.

Pipelines for major fields feed directly into the island's deep water jetties for super-tankers.

Experts say the attack hits Iran's economy hard since the island funds much of its operations,

including those of the Revolutionary Guard.

Oil prices have spiked worldwide as other refineries and tankers face strikes in the region.

Trump warned that if Iran keeps interfering with shipping in the Strait, the United States

will target the oil infrastructure next.

He has sent mixed signals, downplaying, then acting on the island's importance.

Meanwhile, reports show about 2,500 Marines and an amphibious warship moving from Japan,

raising fears of a possible occupation.

Analysts warn that seizing the island could spark wider retaliation and worsen global

oil shortages.
