Venezuela's interim leader, Delcy Rodriguez, dismissed longtime defense minister Vladimir

Padrino Lopez this week.

Padrino, a 62-year-old loyalist who served over a decade, led the armed forces under former

President Nikolás Maduro.

Maduro was captured by the United States in a military operation on January 3rd that

killed nearly 100 people.

Rodriguez quickly named General Gustavo Gonzales Lopez as the new minister.

He previously ran intelligence services in the presidential guard.

She also appointed fresh leaders for energy and housing ministries amid ongoing cabinet

shakeups.

Padrino thanked Rodriguez on telegram for the support, calling it the highest honor of

his life to serve the country.

She praised his loyalty and patriotism in return.

The military, a key pillar of the old regime, has pledged full backing to her leadership.

This comes as Venezuela buzzes with excitement over its first ever World Baseball Classic

Title.

The powerful armed forces deeply tied to the socialist movement, control oil, mining,

food distribution, and more despite corruption allegations.

Under heavy United States pressure, Rodriguez has reformed oil laws and issued a major

amnesty.

Officials expect more army changes, including regional commanders as she steers the nation
