Hey, everybody, this is Pam with the Paper Outpost.
Today, we're carrying on with the fabric collage journal
cover.
And just a reminder, I have the March Madness Special going
on right now, 50% all DigiKits.
These are the download files, only the printable download
files.
You can, there's a whole bunch of different themes
that you can pick from.
You get five pages in each theme.
And if you're interested in that, the Etsy website,
link is this.
And if you want to see all my links, the link is that.
This is also located in the description box down below
for those who have access to that.
OK, so back to the task at hand.
All right, carrying on.
This is basically a craft with me, create with me.
As we go, I pulled out a bunch of material.
And I've covered the inside of this journal.
And now I'm going to, this is an envelope, like an Amazon envelope.
I have an example of something like that.
Like, they may have originally looked something similar to this.
So if you get these in the mail, they make great covers.
You can make them as thin or as thick as you want.
Right now, this one is relatively thin.
It's, I don't think this one is, maybe it
does have a little bit of bubble padding on the inside.
Not super fat, but we're going to do things that might
thicken this up a little bit, give it a little bit more structure.
OK, so we're going to continue to add little bits and pieces.
So I have a bunch of material over here.
We can't see that back up a little bit.
OK.
And I just pulled out pieces that look
like they complement the color theme.
I started off with a motivational swatch of material
that I wanted to use as an inspiration
and just sort of worked off of that.
It's a fun way to start.
If you don't know where to start, what colors go together?
These are pulling some of the colors out of here.
This is kind of cool.
And maybe I could do some edging with this.
That would be neat.
Much of my cut here, if I stretch it, I've got more.
Look at that.
Yeah.
But I don't want to put too much tension on it.
I could do it there.
I could do it at the one edge.
I've already got some of that here, though.
So maybe over here, might be good to do.
I was also thinking of using, this is from shirts and things like that.
So if you have extra clothing you're not using anymore,
or maybe outgrow or is headed for other places,
maybe you just want to take a look at that
and see if you can use some bits and bobs and pieces
of that for your junk journal.
And I'm thinking, I got a little bit of glue on this material.
So guess what?
We're probably going to cover that up if I can't peel it off.
That's the age old trick out of that.
And OK, you can entirely glue all of this down.
Fabric fix glue is a great fabric to fabric or fabric to paper glue.
And or you can also sew it, which is kind of nice, too.
So we might do a little bit of sewing with this one.
Maybe I could do that.
That's kind of pretty.
Are you stuck staring at your W2?
Our tax refund worry is holding you back.
You probably have FOMO.
The fear of messing up.
The fix?
Using turbo tax on into a credit karma,
they find every credit and deduction
to help you get every refund dollar you deserve.
Or your money back.
It's time to overcome your fear of messing up
and get your taxes done right.
Start filing today in the Credit Karma app.
I'll start to look like a birthday cake here.
OK, so let us hang on.
Oh, maybe we can do something like this.
OK, you might want to do different angles.
OK, I just want to do something like that.
What?
Do this.
And I think I'm going to be sewing a lot of this down
with my sewing machine to kind of anchor everything.
It's a great way to anchor it.
Don't be afraid of a sewing machine.
Try to get like glue out.
OK, came out of its little cubby.
And we have glue coming out the end.
You never know what these home created devices, right?
All right.
Now, this is a pretty thick thing,
so I don't have to worry too much about fingers mushing it.
Get it to look good.
Well, awesome.
So I'm just adding.
Just adding little bits and bobs.
You can always add.
You can take away.
Here's just some lace.
I could do lace, but that's the brown packaging.
It's kind of cool.
I don't have to cover it all up.
It's not a mandatory thing.
New, new, new.
All right, let's put a little one here.
Might be a little bit tricky, but we'll try it.
And if I put that, maybe like that.
There we go.
You can always come back and tack down other little areas
that need extra tacking.
I'm going to put a little bit of this over here.
That's kind of pretty.
All right, we do have other things.
Don't be shy to go into the other things, Pam.
Okay, I'm going into the other things.
What is this?
This is kind of edging.
That's kind of cool.
It's very thin satiny fabric.
I don't know if it's going to show the glue probably well,
but we'll give it a go.
I'm going to put it on here and I'll fingers mish it.
I think this will require a fingers
mish.
So I don't get the bleed through of the fat onto the fabric.
A little tucking.
You can under tuck over tuck.
It's allowed.
It is.
It's okay.
Under an over tuck.
You can layer.
You can wrinkle it on purpose.
You can not wrinkle it on purpose.
I wonder if I could take it up a level and put all this.
I know we're going to fan it down here.
This is some pretty stuff.
This was a shirt.
And you might want to think about that next time you're buying shirts.
Could I use this in a junk journal later?
I mean, that is the ultimate question of everything,
always, all the time, this piece.
Oh, I like that.
That's very pretty.
I'm going to put it on here.
I'm going to have to definitely fingers mish this.
It's a thin one.
I'm going in.
I'm going in hot and loaded with the glue and the fingers mish.
OK, this is how you get glue all over your fingers
and you can peel it off all day long.
That's right.
It's multiple forms of entertainment for you.
I like that a lot.
That just levels it up.
Now, these have a little metal.
Be mindful.
This has a little metal sequence, I guess they would be.
So you don't want to go over those with your need all.
Be mindful of that, if you're going to be sewing.
So I've just made my life a lot more difficult.
Yeah, me.
But that's OK right here.
Maybe a piece up here, but I really like this material.
So I think I'm just going to go for it.
It's going to do it.
I'm going to see.
Maybe I won't be able to sew this actual piece down.
Maybe this will have to totally rely on gluing
because it's safer.
And that's OK.
There's no law that says once you sew, you have to sew everything.
No, no, no, no.
You can glue it perfectly acceptable.
As long as it's stuck down, you are good to go.
All right.
I'm going to avoid going over this fine too much
because it's going to be a pull on things
and I don't want things to come apart.
But I would like this to be in there.
There's one of those little metal things.
All right, we'll take that little edge off
because he wants to go to the spine.
It's even a little tricky to cut these things.
OK, so you'll be mindful of what you're sewing.
That's kind of quite the punch of that color
and the glitz and the glam.
And it's just a little bit of something.
You know what I mean?
It's just a little bit of something.
So take a look around.
You can always go to the thrift store
and buy some clothes.
Go to garage sale.
Buy like sometimes they have like fill the bag for two bucks
or something.
Yeah, go get one of those.
Fill that bag.
Come home with tons of stuff.
If you don't have stuff that you can easily shred.
OK.
I think I need a little something here.
It feels like it's something like a plain paint piece
down here.
I think you might go there perfectly.
Well, then you're going in there.
The way you just have no choice.
We're going to do fingers mooching
because this is again, it's very thin in there.
Checking under a little bit.
Now, another way of handling all the little edges
that might peel up and things like that,
let's say you don't have a sewing machine.
You could take a thin netting of fabric.
Maybe you have something like a tool or something like that.
And you could actually lay it over the top and glue it
like lightly and then lay it and then wrap it around
if you want or just cut it to the border.
Something like that that will hold all the little pieces in.
That's an alternative that we're not actually
going to do today because I want
to see how this sewing thing goes.
So those are going to be great or not.
OK, that was a sip of coffee.
I definitely have some wood there,
but we'll do it that later.
OK, so I've technically covered the entire area, which is good.
Let's pull in the sewing situation and just see how this goes.
And you can look at me totally, destroy this
or do something good.
Now, this is going to put sewing things all over the inside
of this, which, you know, OK, I'm
fine with that.
And if you didn't want that to show,
then you could sew this side first.
Well, because I did the wrap around technique,
I did have to put that on first.
But well, we'll just roll with this.
This is where we're at.
OK, why is it not going on?
Oh, yeah, it was.
OK, my sewing machine is coming to life.
OK, I'm going to move you over a little bit.
It's a little messy here, all right?
Oh, no, hang on.
OK, well, that's not very good.
OK, so you can see.
You can see it will awkward position for me to sew in.
But if I can find the tails, I'll lift up that.
Be careful you don't.
Here's the blob in.
And here is top thread.
OK, we have both.
I think I have enough.
I'm going to put it through the foot.
I don't know.
It's always good idea to put it through the foot.
Give yourself long tails.
It's important.
All right, and let's attempt.
I think I'm going to go to a zigzag stitch.
OK, we move everything out of the way,
so I can actually sew going on an angle here.
Why am I sewing on?
I need to move my machine over this way.
There we go.
That's a little better.
OK, just down here.
All right, so you can see what's going on.
Well, that was my mess.
Yeah, so my arm bar is in the way of my hook.
I've now just disconnected my desk arm.
OK, now it's back.
All right, everybody's settled.
I'm just going to now sew.
OK, it's a little nerve wrecking.
No, it's not nerve wrecking.
It's going to be what it's going to be.
We're just going in.
OK, I'm on zigzag.
I've located my foot pedal.
And now we are sewing.
OK, going in.
I'm going to go slow.
Maybe I want them a little wider than normal.
Oh, no.
wider than normal.
Longer than normal.
OK.
I'm helping guide it.
And here we go.
We're sewing.
It's a brownish color, so you can be able to see it.
You don't always have to do this exact.
I just think it's a great way to catch these little edges.
I'm very mindful that I'm coming very close to the land
of that's folding up.
So you want to get flattened that down.
Get your fingers out of there before you sew.
And then I'm very close, being very mindful of OK,
getting away from it.
The metal bits, I definitely do want to go over those.
We're actually wearing eye protection.
And it has matsuit.
And everything you do, and then you won't
grow a third horn or be injured by flying debris.
OK, OK, so far so good.
You can go slow.
You don't have to go fast.
Sometimes the lower is better with this type of a project.
Because as we're trying to, like maybe you're not a great
soldier, like me, you're learning how to work this device.
And you just want to make friends with it.
You're not trying to make enemies out of the gates
with your sewing machine.
You're not asking too much of it.
It's not asking too much of you.
Everybody's getting along well in the playground.
And we're sewing.
It looks like sewing.
We've got a needle moving.
I think this qualifies as sewing.
Looks like sewing to me.
We never know until we actually pull it out of the Mischkwan
getting stuck on something like it.
Oh, my guess is going to be OK.
Oh, yeah, there we go.
We have the first problem.
All right, so we're backing up.
We're going to turn the machine off.
I don't know if you can see, but my needle came out.
Oh, why does that happen to me?
You're going to unloosen this.
We can't see any of that.
Mm-hmm.
The needle came out.
Oh, I need totally near my eyed glasses now.
OK, that better?
And we're going to lift the needle out.
Oh, it's not happy.
It's not happy.
OK.
Come on, that is.
Oh, did I turn it off?
No, turn it off, sister.
You're going to die in early death and not
have anything to stuff.
It doesn't even want to come out.
That's how mad it is at me, so I don't
would grab my pliers.
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here.
Pull it out, God.
President Barack Obama, Virginia, we are counting on you.
Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress
to raid the next election and wield unchecked power
for two more years.
But you can stop them by voting yes by April 21st.
Help put our elections back on a level playing field
and let voters decide not politicians.
Vote yes by April 21st.
Paid for five Virginians for fair elections.
Yep, and then we're going to stick it back into where
it should be through this all the way up.
And there's like a flat side of the needle.
Let's go the back.
Let's stick it in a little little needle place.
I hope it's the right way.
Make sure I have the flat side at the back.
No, I don't.
I do I?
I do now.
I'm working.
I'm working.
OK, now I do.
All right, straighten that all out.
Oh, I better.
If I should just take, yeah, that's probably the wise idea.
I can take that out.
OK, you're seeing in the trenches what really happens.
You know, it's tightened as this should be.
I said tight, so the needle does not fall out.
The kind of needle I use is a regular universal needle
most of the time.
Although I have used leather needles, denim needles,
they work as well.
But I would like to say, which isn't really working very
well right now, but I haven't had much trouble
with the universal needle, blah, blah, blah.
So we're going to re-thread.
And I'm just showing you this, because maybe this will happen
to you.
Maybe not, maybe, you know, these kind of things only
happen to town.
That's the automatic, sort of automatic,
it's better, but it helps you thread the needle.
Now we're going to pull.
OK, so we should be back in business.
Let's back up a little bit.
Where we were.
And let's just see what, I don't know where the underthread went.
We'll just go slow it.
Let's turn it on.
And let's do some hand stitching to see if it's even spilt.
It came right out.
You see that?
Up.
Oh, I have a right.
OK, let me do my best.
OK, turn it off.
OK, now get the pliers again.
On the first go, it could be the glue
is pulling and holding the needle.
That's a possibility.
We've got the flat.
I got to make sure I got the flat side at the back.
OK, let's take this out of here again.
OK, that's out.
All right, let's take that out.
Where are you at?
Can you see?
Probably not.
OK, there's a flat side.
I've definitively located the flat back side.
OK, let me get that out of there.
Wait, loosen this.
OK, so it's in there.
Up there.
Can you see this?
No, not really.
OK, I'm not going to also get this.
Because I got that darn desk arm in the way.
OK.
There?
Is that about it?
Always just like one of those disaster days.
This is how I'm trying to show you how easy it is.
It does not look so easy right now, Pam.
Not looking so easy.
All right.
OK.
Oh, can you do a key hold on?
All right, can you see the foot?
It's right there.
I'm doing my best.
I'm trying to show you what's happening here.
I have finagle things.
We'll see if it works.
We're crossing our fingers.
We're going in with full face.
Good things are going to happen.
Expecting unicorns and sunshine and roses.
And let's see.
OK.
There we go.
So that can get twisted.
All right, we have no idea what's happening at this point.
Or she was already on.
Apparently I shouldn't have been threatening that one.
It's not going to slow.
Oh, it came out again.
All right, it's just one of those days.
I don't know what to tell you.
That's third time.
Hold on.
OK, I now have taken everything out of my machine.
And I'm going to re-thread the machine I've replaced
the needle.
I'm threading it.
And I'm going to do a test thing on a swatch that
has no glue on it to see if the glue is the problem.
There's just a piece of material putting it down.
OK.
I just do a straight stitch to see if we
are sewing correctly.
OK.
Something is sewing.
Yes, we are apparently sewing.
So now it could be a glue issue.
It could be the glue is grabbing the needle.
OK, so I'll show you what I did.
I can show you.
I stopped it there.
I'm just going to stick it kind of back in the same area.
Maybe the glue is dried.
Don't know.
All right, just going to go this way.
And let's go to maybe we're just going to stick
with the straight stitch for a bit.
Maybe it's happier.
You enjoy it.
Let's make come out.
No, it's OK.
We are sewing.
We are sewing going.
We're going through.
It's not super thick or anything like it should be fighting.
It looks sounds like it's not about me, doesn't it?
That's my bad speed.
I'm not at a good even speed.
OK, so we're just there's nothing happening here.
There is absolutely no stitch going on.
OK, why is that?
Because the thread has come out.
OK, it's one of those days.
Oh boy, you get to see me on all my glory today.
This is the reality.
Yep, things don't go smooth over here.
Nope.
You think it's only you?
No.
I see my little needles right over there.
OK, I just need to put paws on for a second.
Hold on.
And we're back.
And we're attempting again.
Attempt number 47 with a straight stitch now.
I'm feeling like it should be good.
I have my threads going.
Let's see if I'm actually getting stitches coming out the rear.
I want my stitches coming out the rear.
Oh, I got a line of stitching.
Can you see that?
I think you can.
That brown line, that's a line of stitching.
OK, I have this worst camera angle.
This is like, OK, I thought I did the most.
Well, I did the most boring video.
I've ever done the other day.
Now, this is like the worst video.
OK, here we go.
OK, and the needle is staying placed.
Should I attempt to go to zigzag?
Not yet, I'm a little nervous.
I'm having a good success here.
It will thicker going through here.
It's OK, but I'm dangerously close to the metal things,
which I'm going to avoid with the plug.
Let me tell you, I do not want to have needle issues.
Do not run over metal things like staples, anything like metal.
I let anything, nothing, nothing at all with your needle.
OK, I'm going to go.
I'm getting by book.
I'm advancing to zigzag stitch.
Let me see where we're at.
That's a smaller zigzag stitch.
OK, things seem to be going better.
Everybody seems to be cruzier.
I think I need a longer stitch.
OK, longer and wider.
Oh, no, don't go to the fast panel.
Maybe your tension is too strong.
It would be.
That happens sometimes.
Sometimes we're a little tense around there.
Don't go into the metal rivets.
Don't go near.
If you have to glume down later, come back later.
All right, coming back later.
I'm just going to block the edge.
If you don't know what to do, you can just sew right off the edge.
Like everything up.
And then snip it.
And then you come back in where you want to.
OK, so I'm going to take my tails.
All right, I think the things are going better now.
OK.
All right.
Now I'm looking.
See where I need to sew.
And I think I'm going to sew along here.
OK, let's try that.
Can you see?
Where's the needle?
All right, OK.
Coming in here with this exact long tail,
so I should grab it.
Oh, slow.
Yeah, go slow.
And then just follow the edge of the fabric.
And everything should be OK.
Returning, turning, coming to edge of fabric.
Rotating, turning.
Can you see this?
I think so.
Oh, so OK.
So this part is actually fun.
You feel like you're driving the fork left, you know what I mean?
It's like, all right, go on this way.
Go on that way.
Everything's good so far.
We've got back on the horse.
I think I almost like to go lighter.
And farther apart.
Or max wideness now.
Because it helps me grab the fabric.
Because I'm not the best sewer.
So I have a better chance of grabbing the edge.
All right, here we go.
Coming in, I'm probably going to finish right off the edge
of this little edge, you're runny.
And we are off.
Yeah, boy.
Boy, that's where you just got to get in there.
And the whole thing is don't give up.
But I mean, rethink, re-strategize, ask yourself,
what might the problem be and try and fix it?
And carry on.
Don't give up.
That's a thing.
So you don't give up.
Tip.
Keep at it.
And maybe the planets will align.
I'm coming down around here.
I don't know where I'm going now.
And it's OK if you don't follow the lines directly.
Exactly.
Because it's supposed to be like a random three.
Here we come to see these edges.
Where I had my issues, let's see if I'll go as well.
So you know issues that, whoa, who did that?
Some crazy foot pedal operator.
Come around this way.
All right.
Oh, yeah.
OK, now we think we're all hot and like pro now.
Because it's working.
Getting all saucy pants.
Driving this baby home.
I just really want to tack down all these loose edges.
Because it just makes a so much easier.
And it gives a lot more strength to your cover.
And you don't feel like little things are going to peel up on you.
It's a great way to add.
Chris, listen, we all bold saying how great sewing is now
after you saw about disaster.
But the thing is, when it works, it works so good.
When it doesn't work, it don't work so good.
OK.
All right.
There we go.
OK, turning, turning.
And the softer covers, you can kind of fold them up.
You can't do this so much with a hard cover.
But with the soft cover, you can kind of fold it up
to get it to fit your machine.
All right.
We're going to sew all this down again.
You know, it looks like it's not.
It's just on that piece of material.
But we're going to over sew it to anchor.
Yes, the be jeavers out of it.
On everything to be well anchored, good to see.
OK, I was going to keep going here.
I don't see you down this little ruffle.
OK.
I'm turning a little bit.
I'm down the side here, this, and getting dangerously,
dangerously close to the metal things.
Get away.
Get out of there.
Don't go near those.
Don't even chance it.
Not even like you think everything's going to be OK.
It's not.
No.
OK.
All right.
Let's just snip these out and get you a better vantage point.
You can actually see what's going on and see what we did today.
So let me, OK, move the sewing machine out of the way.
OK.
There we go.
All right.
OK, so this is what we have created.
It's obviously upside down.
No, it's not.
There's no, obviously, anything here yet.
It's going to cut off these extra strings.
So you can get idea of where we have advanced at this part.
So it is kind of fun to, OK, it is kind of fun to sew
to make your journal covers.
I know you're laughing.
So I might do a little more stitching here around your gingerlick.
I'm not going to, no, actually, I think I'm going to glue this down.
And there's other things that we can do on top of this,
but I just want you to see what it looks like.
So far, this little ruffle, I might leave loose,
or I might come along with a single stitch just to anchor it down
a little bit more there.
And so this is what we have for the front.
This is what we have for the back.
It's kind of cool.
It's kind of piecemeal, not done yet.
Just still playing with it.
And just seeing how you want to see the other side, OK.
So this is what it looks like on the other side.
It still has some tails here.
So I don't know.
I think that's kind of cool.
I'm fine with that against the coffee
dyed background with the brown thread.
I think it looks nice.
But you could also cover this.
If you want, you could just cut out some squares,
up scrapbook paper, or wrap the paper,
or chipboard, or something that you're using in more fabric
or paper, and glue it over this if you didn't want this to show.
So you're not stuck with this.
That's what I'm trying to let you know.
These deep dots as we're crafting.
They do a bubble up, and they must be expressed, OK.
And that's what it looks like.
So, Sunny, do you have a word?
Where are you?
Where are you?
Unban.
I'm back to us.
I'm over here, Mom.
I'm on my white pillows.
Yes, he's on his white pillows.
Come on, Mom.
All right.
OK.
All right, here we go.
Here he is.
Do you have a little something to say?
I would like to say that I look extremely cute against this
beautiful, sewn fabric cover that will one be one day.
I just happen to notice my pop.
My pop is a pop.
OK, so no more seriously, folks.
Just want you to know that Mayhem occurs at the paper
outpost, too.
And as you can see, there was maximum Mayhem here today.
But we all survived, and it's OK.
And if it happens to you, just look.
I'm getting uncomfortable.
Don't give up.
Keep moving forward.
Happy crafting.
Sunshine, help.
Well, that was very prophetic and thoughtful.
Thank you, Sunshine.
OK, so if you don't know, my videos
come out one day, Wednesday, Saturdays, and Sundays.
I do have a free monthly e-mail newsletter.
All the links to everything I'm going to say
are located at this link.
If you want to check them out or in the drop down description box
below.
And also, if I don't forget, we've
got the March Madness Special going on.
Download files only.
It does not include the print and mail
did you kits.
But that's the link to see all the did you kits available.
There's over 260.
And what else?
I have an Etsy shop if you're interested in bundles,
which are collections of old and interesting papers, book pages,
antique ledger, checks receipts, postcards,
black and white photos, handwriting,
this very interesting music paper, dictionary paper,
hundred plus pieces, mailed, free priority mail,
shipping to you.
And it's called a bundle with an app.
When I have journals and bundles and kits and bundles,
well, I do have bundles available.
Right now, I just sold a journal.
Thank you very much.
It was the Founder Objects collaged journal.
And I just snuck it into my Etsy shop.
And I put up a little note on my community tab.
And that was it.
And thank you very much for the person who purchased it.
And it will be shipped out today.
So yeah, I'm just trying different ways
of selling things to see if everybody
is going to buy a paper fair shot.
And you just never know, right?
So come on over to the paper outpost as a shop.
You just never know what you might find.
And also, I have an Amazon shop.
If you're interested in favorite tools and supplies
that you see me use here on paper outpost,
I will do my best to put links there.
It is an affiliate link, but you do not pay more
for the items because you use my links.
So thanks very much for your support.
And I have a t-shirt shop or a merchandise shop.
If you like the phrase, create with reckless abandon
or everything as a craft supply until proven otherwise,
you can get that on a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, a zip-toodie,
a mug tote or water bottle.
And you can find me on social media, on Pinterest,
Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Facebook group,
come join our Facebook group.
Grab a lot of fun over there doing weekly monthly challenges.
And most of all, remember that fun is not always simple,
but it can be.
And keep creating with reckless abandon everybody.
I'll see you next time.
Bye-bye.
