Inside these chamber doors, my colleagues and I at King 5 got a front row seat to what may
0:05
have been the lengthiest house floor debate ever inside the Capitol.
0:10
63 46 as amended by the House is declared passed.
0:19
Celebrations erupted for the millionaires tax on Democrats side of the aisle.
0:23
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson says he will sign a bill to impose the state's first ever
0:28
income tax. So it is official in the Washington State House, Washington State Democrats have
0:33
decided that they are going to ignore the constitution of that particular state and impose the
0:38
first ever income tax in the history of the state on its citizens again without a constitutional
0:44
amendment. Now of course the way that they're selling this is the way that they sold the original
0:48
federal income tax, which is just attacks on the millionaires, just attacks on the wealthiest
0:54
of individuals. It's not going to affect your regular ordinary everyday people, but the fact
0:59
of the matter is, just as we saw with the federal income tax, which was only promised to be
1:04
one to two percent on the top one to two percent, this is setting the stage for Washingtonians
1:09
to pay massive amounts of their money in state income taxes, which they were free of for the
1:15
length of the history of that particular state. It is an absolute disaster in every possible way,
1:20
and of course it is pitched as a way to solve the budget problems of Washington State,
1:24
but as documented on this channel and by many of people who have looked at the books,
1:29
the state of Washington faces a spending problem, not a revenue problem, and this tax again is just
1:35
the beginning in imposing a state income tax and make no mistake about it. Democrats have already
1:40
made it clear that that is their intention. Critics including Republican lawmakers Chris Gildon
1:45
and Travis Couture believe the millionaires tax is a disingenuous way of paving the path for
1:51
an income tax and everyone, not just the wealthy. If you want to be serious about fixing regressivity
1:57
in our state, you need to talk about reducing the tax burden on the poor and the middle class.
2:03
When pressed on whether they would ever support a universal income tax down the road,
2:07
top budget leaders, Democrats Tim Ormsby and June Robinson did not give a definitive answer
2:14
today. By the way, in addition to that, you also already have the wealthy people, the people who
2:19
supposedly won't relocate to avoid taxation, actually leaving the state, Howard Schultz,
2:25
a staple in the state of Washington and in the city of Seattle, who already relocated his Starbucks
2:31
company headquarters from Seattle, Washington to Nashville, Tennessee has announced that he himself
2:36
is moving to the state of Florida and this is due to the fact that they are imposing this ridiculous
2:41
tax and this is what we're going to talk about today. But before we do, I want to thank everybody
2:45
who supports this channel via actualjusticewater.com slash john.
2:49
And give me the money. Give you give me the money. Okay.
2:53
This has been a lot of work that's gone into this tax reform and we think it's going to really
2:58
pay dividends for Washingtonians. Democrats say the money will expand the working family's tax credit
3:04
and fund things like childcare, healthcare and education during debate. Supporters said the
3:10
ask is simple. We are asking the 21,000 wealthiest Washingtonians, that's a quarter of 1% of Washingtonians.
3:20
We're doing the very best financially of any of us who currently pay far less to support our
3:28
shared needs than the poorest among us do to chip in. So of course the Democrats in the Washington
3:34
State House are pitching this the way that they sell everything, which is this is going to fund
3:38
very important things that we absolutely need. That's going to help the innocent beba angel poor
3:44
people within that state. And of course they pitch childcare funding, which we all know or at least
3:49
you should know that Washington state right behind the state of Minnesota has the most amount of
3:53
Somali daycare centers in their particular state. So that's going to be absolutely wonderful that
3:58
your tax dollars are going to be funneled more towards them because we all know that those daycare
4:03
centers need to pay for the children that aren't present there. But in addition to that, we talk
4:08
about education funding and all the other things that Democrats often list off as absolute
4:13
necessities for the state. Now, of course, I said earlier on that the issue in Washington state
4:19
happens to be that they have a spending problem, not a revenue problem. And of course this is
4:24
supported by the data. So when you look at the actual spending in the state, what you find out is
4:28
that in fiscal year 2012, they actually had a total budgeted expenditures worth about 30 billion
4:35
dollars by fiscal year 2019, that number had reached 50 billion dollars. And by fiscal year
4:41
2025, we have preliminary actual spending in and around at 95 billion dollars, which means that
4:48
spending has over tripled in just a little bit more than a decade. Now look, in raw numbers,
4:53
the spending has tripled in a little bit over a decade. But obviously we have inflation as a
4:58
factor. And of course, the state of Washington has population growth. And that state has actually
5:02
seen about a 50% increase in population. And of course, you have inflation as a factor.
5:08
So what we find out is that spending has actually doubled when you actually adjust for inflation
5:14
and population in the state of Washington, which again does not make any sense because you should
5:20
be matching your population. You should be matching inflation at the bare minimum. But obviously,
5:25
they are going significantly over that thus making this a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
5:31
Now we actually talked about this proposal for a state income tax in the state of Washington,
5:36
which they're pitching as just a millionaires tax. Nothing to see here, nothing to worry about,
5:41
earlier on about a couple of months ago on this channel. And what we found out is that when
5:46
Democratic representatives who were behind this tax increase were pressed, they actually just admitted
5:52
that they would consider applying this to everyone. And essentially, this is the camel's nose
5:57
under the tent legislation in order to justify the ridiculous spending that they want to perpetuate.
6:02
And again, run up the taxation on these particular residents. Bill imposes an income tax on the people
6:09
of Washington state for the first time in over a century. Opponents say they fear the tax could
6:13
eventually reach more than just millionaires. Others argued an income tax on one population of
6:18
earners is unconstitutional. It has to be applied evenly. See, and that's where I think that the
6:26
courts are going to come in. So here we have a representative that that's explaining that according
6:30
to Washington state law, these types of taxes are not only unconstitutional, but if you were to
6:35
impose taxes, they're supposed to be imposed on an even basis across the board with only minor
6:41
exceptions. And obviously, this is not being done in that way. And the reason for this to be
6:47
highlighted is absolutely crucial because these are challenges that are going to be brought up to
6:52
the courts if this were to pass the Senate. And of course, be signed by the governor who by the way
6:56
has already indicated that he will, in fact, sign this income tax, which makes sense because this
7:02
is the guy that is approving the budgets with all the frivolous spending. So obviously, you're going
7:07
to head for disaster in the state of Washington. And of course, this is already reflected by people
7:12
relocating, even though this tax is not supposed to be implemented until 2029. So let me give you a
7:19
little bit of a prediction about what is going to happen. You're going to have all these people
7:23
that are going to say, Oh, well, we're going to actually not have to worry about anybody relocating.
7:27
It's going to be no big deal. But then when they do leave when revenue projections don't meet the
7:33
excessive spending of that particular state, they will use that as a justification to lower the
7:38
threshold from income over a million dollars to income over $500,000, then income over $100,000.
7:45
And so on and so forth until you have a state income tax that absolutely everyone pays. Again,
7:51
this is something that we see in New York City, which is one of the few cities in this country
7:56
that has a city income tax. We also have a state income tax. By the way, we also have sales taxes
8:01
because you get all of the taxes. You don't trade one for another again, unless you prohibit one
8:06
by the Constitution. So what you end up doing is eventually you get to the point where income
8:12
between zero and $12,000 is still subject to this oppressive taxation because this is the
8:19
ultimate goal. Again, when you give them an income tax, it's not like that covers the debt and
8:24
that covers the deficit and it's no big deal. They use that as a justification to spend significantly
8:30
more, which is why the city of Chicago's budget, which is the third largest city in the country,
8:35
which is the third of the size of the city of New York spends 10 times less than the city of New
8:41
York because Chicago, even though it's being run by Democrats, doesn't have their own city income
8:45
tax system in the way that New York City has. Again, look at all the states with the most financial
8:51
trouble and what you find out is that they happen to be the highest tax states, not the lowest
8:56
tax states. You look at the ones that have balanced budgets or even surpluses like the state of Florida
9:01
or the state of Texas and what you ultimately end up discovering is that those particular states
9:06
have no income tax at all whatsoever. So it's a spending problem, not a revenue problem,
9:11
yet they're using their excessive spending as a justification to tax the crap out of you.
9:16
Now look, based on the previous video announcing this particular tax plan, it looks like this is
9:21
going to have to be done via a constitutional amendment via a ballot initiative. And if you're
9:26
in the state of Washington, it is absolutely crucial that you vote against it, but the thing is when
9:31
you've had such a massive increase in population, a bunch of left-wing people move into your state
9:36
to the point where they're essentially doubling your population over the last so many years,
9:41
these people are not connected to how your state functions. They're likely going to vote to make it
9:46
more like California, which is where many of these people are fleeing from. And when they do that
9:51
and they impose the income tax, you are all going to suffer as a consequence of it because it's
9:56
damn near impossible to get politicians to lower taxes or get rid of a revenue stream once they
10:02
have it, which is why it's absolutely crucial that you prohibit this at a constitutional level
10:07
and you keep that prohibition. Again, we saw this in the state of Massachusetts where they had
10:12
a flat tax by law, according to the Constitution, they decided to have voters vote to actually institute
10:18
different tax brackets. And now all of a sudden, even though they say the millionaires taxes
10:23
absolutely working out for that state, what are they doing? They're now pushing the same exact
10:27
taxes on the middle class, like the fuel surcharge tax, that they said that they were only going to put
10:32
into place if you didn't vote for the taxes on the rich, because guess what? Once they get that one
10:38
thing approved, they then go down the list and try to grab all the other things. This is exactly
10:42
what's happening in New York City. They're talking about how oh mom donning needs the taxes on the
10:47
rich, but he's using that as an opportunity, even though again, he created the budget deficit
10:52
with $14 billion in new spending while trying to blame Eric Adams for it as an excuse to raise
10:58
taxes on property, to raise taxes through parking meters, and basically hit people with all these
11:03
fines and fees and everything that regular ordinary people play, because again, it is all a part
11:08
of their scam. And if you're in the state of Washington, don't fall for it, but you know what?
11:12
Who knows how it's going to work out? We will have to see if the Senate even passes this.
11:17
And of course, the governor has promised to sign this, so again, we may be on the cusp of an
11:22
unconstitutional disaster in that particular state, but you know what? Those are just my thoughts.
