What Gratitude Begins to Change

When we begin to notice the good in our lives,

something begins to shift within us.

This was the experience of the ancient psalmist.

“What shall I return to the LORD

for all God’s bounty to me?” — Psalm 116:12

The psalms are often honest and raw.

They make space for anger, frustration, and disappointment.

They don’t deny what is hard.

But alongside that honesty,

they also return—again and again—

to what is good.

Not to ignore what hurts,

but to remember what sustains.

Because this kind of attention

has a way of centering us

and helping us move forward.

When we acknowledge our pain

and remain open to the good,

something begins to shift.

Not all at once—

but truly.

I’m Horace McMillon.

This is 60 Seconds of Hope.

Peace be with you.
