What Keeps Us From Seeing
“but their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” (from Luke 24:16)
Sometimes we get so caught up in our own thoughts and worries
that we miss what’s happening right in front of us.
Some of Jesus’s followers were so focused on his execution
that they didn’t realize he was already with them.
There was no maliciousness,
no ill intent,
no bad faith.
But they already knew what they knew.
And what they knew
was that their hope was gone.
The turn came in something simple—
when they welcomed a stranger,
when they stayed in conversation,
when they shared a meal.
And in that moment,
their eyes were opened.
Sometimes we begin to see again
not by trying harder to understand—
but by turning toward the people in front of us.

Peace be with you.
