All they need to do is take a page out of the Florida Panthers book. We'll get into that later.

2:09Plus I will look back at the trade deadline as I think this was the moment that the Marlins season really began to crumble and things really began to turn for the worse. We'll revisit the deadline and what the Marlins failed to do at the deadline. That is coming up as well. But I will start today previewing the weekend series as the Los Angeles Dodgers come to town this weekend to face the fish. Two teams heading into very different directions right now. The Dodgers are looking for a three-peat right now. The Dodgers are looking to get back to the playoffs and get back to the World Series and continue being the villains and the best team in baseball. Right now they have the second best director in the National League. They're a game and a half back of the Milwaukee Brewers. Credit to the Brewers, man. Those Brewers every year it seems they fly under the radar but every year they are

3:12among the league's best when it's all said and done. So Brewers atop the NL right now. The Dodgers right behind them and then our biggest foe the Atlanta Braves are behind the Dodgers and that's your top three in the National League right now. Dodgers on a heater right now on a seven game winning streak and now they head to Miami looking to continue that seven game winning streak. The Marlins trending in a very different direction right now. They have lost six of seven games and they have completely crumbled in the second half of this season. The Marlins did take two out of three against these Dodgers way back in the early stages of the season. The Marlins went to LA and took two out of three. It was a six game road trip at the time and you lost two out of three against the Giants and then you won two out of three against the Dodgers. Not exactly how I expected that week to go but good for the Marlins heading to LA and taking two out of three there. It's no secret that

4:18the Dodgers I call them the villains of baseball earlier and they are wearing that with pride. You take a look at this roster and I don't think it's you can obviously construct a better roster but it's very difficult to even hand pick a better roster than what the Dodgers have together. You look down this lineup up and down this lineup. There are just guys that have a ton of talent that have a ton of star power on this roster. Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betz, Max Muncie, Teostre Hernandez, Kyle Tucker, a ton of power, a good contact team, a lot of speed just perfectly constructed to head back to a third consecutive World Series Championship. That being said, I don't buy into the idea that the Dodgers are ruining baseball. I think there's a difference between being the villains of baseball and being the ruining

5:19baseball. I think back to the Miami Heat and the Golden State Warriors, like the LeBron era Heat, the Kevin Durant era Warriors, they didn't ruin basketball. They're building teams within the parameters of the rules of the sport. Beat them. If you have a problem with what they're doing, you're allowed to do the same kind of thing. Beat them. I don't think the Dodgers are ruining baseball but I do think they play that villain role and they play that villain role very well. I mentioned the bats on this team and a rotation, arguably the best rotation, maybe ever created in Major League Baseball, Blake Snell, Tyler Glass now, Yamamoto, Tariq Scubal, and that guy, Shohei Othani, he's pretty good too. Just up and down the roster, just an all-star team. All-star team kind of reminds me of the Mon stars. If you remember the movie Space Jam with Michael Jordan and the Looney Tones,

6:20the Mon stars on the other side, that's the Los Angeles Dodgers right now. We also will get to see Longtime Marlin, Miguel Rojas this weekend. He was a little bit of a hero in that World Series last season. Miguel Rojas returns to Miami, Tanner Scott, also a former Marlin. He's on the Dodgers roster as well. We'll be seeing some old friends this weekend as the fish take on the Dodgers. Tonight it'll be Ryan Gusto facing off against Blake Snell. Gusto got roughed up in his last outing against the Cubs, 10 hits, five earned runs. Also had two locks in that game, a lot of home run, and a six to five loss to the Cubs. We remember that was the first game of that Cubs series. The Marlins got down and then climbed back into it. They made it five four. They made it six five. They were never able to come all the way back and get that win. Kind of a story that we've seen consistently with this Marlins

7:24team recently, that 15 to 14 rollercoaster that the Marlins had against the Mets on Wednesday. Was the same kind of story. You fall behind eight, nothing. You make it eight, eight, you fall behind 15, nine, you make it 15, 14, and the Marlins just aren't able to come back. We've seen that same kind of pattern happen a few times recently for this Marlins team as they, it's been a disaster. It's been an absolute disaster in the second half of this season. After such high hopes, just have crumbled. The injury bug has hit them a little bit, but over the course of an 162 game season, the injury bug is going to happen. Every team in the league is dealing with injuries of some sort. You can't use that as an excuse. The Marlins just have crumbled and imploded here over the last couple of months. It's better really disappointing to see. In a little bit, I'll revisit the trade deadline because I

8:27think that's where things really started to go wrong for this Marlins team was after trade deadline. They didn't do anything to help this team, but I don't want to blow my load here now before I get into the next segment. It'll be Ryan Gusto again, Blake Snell tonight on the other side, another left-hander coming to face the Marlins. Lefties have been the fish kryptonite this season, and they got a tough match up here tonight as Snell takes the hill in the long dome here tonight. 3-1-197-ERA this season 109 is the whip. Only six starts this year. He just recently came back from elbow surgery. They're ramping them up. They're ramping up, Blake Snell right now getting ready for that playoff push. It is mid-September at this point. September 11th, I should take a moment here to honor the men and women who lost their lives

9:2825 years ago. It's been 25 years since 9-11-2001 that a tragic day at the nation was very shook. We all know what happened on those days. Very sad and tragic day. I can't believe it's been 25 years every 9-11- everyone remembers what happens there. Every major league baseball team takes the field here today. I look at baseball as a very American tradition, a very American sport. America's past time is what it's known as. You remember baseball brought the nation back together after 9-11 happened. He had the George Bush first pitch shortly after that. And so baseball kind of allowed people to get their mind off things and just dive into a baseball game for a couple of hours and put the tragedy on the shelf for a little bit and enjoy some ball. So baseball is the great connector in America. And we remember the men and women who

10:33lost their lives 25 years ago here today. The Marlins, I'm sure, will do some kind of ceremony honoring those on 9-11 here tonight. It'll be a nice experience at the ballpark here tonight. And then a big game as the fish face off against Blake, Snell, and the Dodgers. Snell has had his stuff going this season for the Dodgers. He is a 12.1 strikeouts per nine. 12Ks per nine. That is pretty remarkable. And Soutman tells me he's going to have it going here tonight as the Marlins have not been able to hit left-handed pitching this season at all. So far, the season Snell has struck out 43 out of 104 batters faced and owns a sub-2 ERA. So a tall task here for the Marlins tonight. He's also yet to go deeper than six innings this year. They're kind of limiting him a bit, working him back into his starting pitching role. So we'll see what kind of leash Snell has

11:34here tonight. Tomorrow, it'll be the Battle of the Tilers as it's Tyler Phillips against Tyler Glass now. Tomorrow afternoon, Phillips has done a lot of different stuff for the fish this season. Coming off a pretty good start against Chicago five innings pitch five hits three earned. It gets a 10-3 win. The Marlins do that day. He's actually had two strong outings in a row because before that one had a good outing against Kansas City five innings one hit zero earned run. I've talked about this before. I'd like to see Clayton McCullough allow Tyler Phillips to go a little bit deeper into ball games. Let's see what he can do against the third time through the line-up. You know, at this point, you're out of the playoffs. Let's kind of test the limits of these guys a little bit. I'd like to see Tyler Phillips go a little bit further tomorrow afternoon. Glass now, he's been really solid as well. Another guy that's kind of working back into the rotation here. Coming back from a lengthy back injury. He's made 10 starts this season a 312 ERA,

12:4010.9 Ks for nine. So he's also a guy that'll strike you out at a very high rate coming off a okay start. He won six innings five hits four earned eight strikeouts though. So had the strike out going against the Washington Nationals a win against the Washington Nationals. The Dodgers came back and got the win there. On Sunday, it'll be Yuri Perez who looks to bounce back. It'll be him against TBD. The Dodgers are yet to announce a starter for Sunday. But Yuri has been up and down as can be this season. Coming off of three straight starts where he has kind of been hammered a bit. Matt had his best stuff in recent going. But before that, he was on an absolute heater. A 1 9 7 ERA through the month of July. And then had a stretch in August where he only allowed one earned run through three straight starts 18 innings pitched during that stretch. So the Jekyll and Hyde, Yuri Perez experience continues. We'll see what version of Yuri we get this Sunday has been

13:44better at home. But has really struggled lately in his last couple of starts. So we'll see what Yuri is able to put together this Sunday after this weekend Kyle Stowers. You're sitting at 19 home runs right now that 20 home run mark is a milestone mark. And I think he hits it this weekend against the Dodgers. So goal. These guarantee Kyle Stowers to hit a home run. He gets his 20th of the season this weekend against the Dodgers. It's a gear run. Coming up next, I'm going to revisit the trade deadline. I've kind of hinted at it a couple times already here today. But I'll revisit the trade deadline. And I'll tell you what the Marlins failed to do. What they did wrong. What they left on the table at the trade deadline. I've been kind of hinting at this the entire show here and the truth of them atter is the Marlon's didn't do much of anything to help this team at the trade downwind. And when I say that, I mean help this team help the 2026 Miami, Marlon's compete for a playoff spot and complete compete for postseason opportunities and things of that nature. Marlon's didn't do anything to help themselves at that point. And it's extremely disappointing because of one where you were you were 58 and 55

16:51at the time right in the mix for an NL wild card spot right in the mix for a playoff spot. And your owner, Bruce Sherman, came out and said that Peter Bendix, the GM had the green light. These are the words that Sherman used the green light to go out and help this team and add players to make a push for the playoffs. And instead of that green light approach that aggressive approach that Sherman was kind of alluding to, Bendix didn't get anybody. Instead, I think I'd define it a little bit as a soft sell is what the Marlon's did at the deadline. I mean, I think that's the moment things turned for this team. You know, you kind of already saw the team start to struggle a little bit and then you know, you don't really do much at the deadline. In fact, you lose more than you gained at the deadline. And now you're 14 and 20 cents that, um, since that day. So you traded away three guys that played a pretty significant time in the majors with Miami this season.

17:58You got a lot of prospects in return. You got one average bullpen arm and Victor Vodnick in return. And I think it's the reason the Marlon's have played so poorly in the second half. We'll start with the headliner, the Liam Hicks trade. That was a guy that was huge. He was so important in the Marlon's lineup day in and day out. He was hitting 282 with the Marlins. He had 14 home runs on the season 62 RBI. This was a guy that was one of your top three top four contributors on offense this season. And you trade him away and you don't really get anybody that fills that void, fills that gap. And he's been really good with the Tampa Bay race since being traded. In 29 games with the race, he's got a 307 average. He's got four home runs, 17 RBI's. I mean, he had a grand slam in his first couple of games with the race. He had a home run on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. A big series over there could be a World Series preview

19:02race Braves over the last couple of days. And then he added another RBI on Wednesday against the Braves. He's batting 307. His OPS is 887 with the race. It's just, you know, I'm happy for Liam because he was a fan favorite here. Always did the right things, always said the right things. But just really hurts to see him play so well with another team where the Marlins are just over here floundering fish pun. But, you know, it's tough to see that, you know, Liam is playing so well with the race. And the Marlins are over here really struggling. You know, they tried the Augustine Ramirez approach. And that hasn't really worked. Playing that DH role, that Liam played for a lot of the season. Augustine can't play first. At least Liam could play a little bit of first base for you. It's really tough to see how well he's playing. Then you take a look at Conor Norby. And the Norby situation is much different than Hicks because Norby wasn't panning out with the

20:05Marlins this season. He had a 205 batting average with the fish. It really wasn't working. He was dealt to Colorado at the deadline. And things have turned around for him offensively. I said he was hitting 205 with the Marlins. He's hitting 271 with Colorado. I mean, I know they have the ball park over there that makes everyone hit a little bit better. But that's a stark difference. In 26 games with the Rockies batting 271, his OBP is above 350. His slugging has improved. He has three home runs, 12 RBI, couple stolen bases. So Norby's game has improved as well. A right-handed hitter for the Marlins. Black those. They lack guys that can hit lefties. And Norby's really turned it on. So happy for Norby, but doesn't do anything for the fish currently. And I've been calling the Lake Bokker Victor Vodnic move as kind of a wash, which it is in reality, it mostly is. But

21:06you take a deeper look into it. And I think the pirates are doing more with Bokker than the Marlins are with Vodnic. Since the trade, he's appeared in 10 games with the pirates, a little bit over 20 innings. And he's got 261 ERA. He's been really good with the pirates so far. And he's been really good lately. Zero earned runs in his last six appearances, 12 almost 13 innings, 12 and two thirds in those last six. He hasn't earned, he hasn't allowed an earned run. We could really use that in Miami right now, having a game the other night where he allowed 15 runs. You know, a Lake Bokker to come in and steady the ship a little bit could be useful for this Marlins team right now. Vodnic since coming over to Miami, he's been underwhelming. 13 in the third innings pitched, a 405 ERA. It's not horrible, it's not bad. But Lake has been better.

22:06Lake has pitched more innings. He's gotten more usage in Pittsburgh. And his ERA is better, his whip is better. All of his numbers are better. So you take a look at everything there. And it remains to be seen. Maybe these prospects the Marlins got in these deals will become world beaters and they'll become the pillars of this Marlins franchise moving forward. But for this season, the Marlins didn't do enough. Bottom line, the Marlins didn't do enough. You traded away three guys that were helping this baseball team. Really, too, you take a look at Vodnic and Hicks. Hicks being one of your biggest contributors on offense this season. And you don't really get anything to replace him. And you start losing games consistently after that. It's not just coincidence. You know, like that one thing leads to another there. Liam Hicks, Lake Bokker, those guys seem trivial. But they made a big impact on this Marlins team this season, especially Liam Hicks. That was definitely the toughest blow at the deadline. And you built up the fan base with the whole green light. We're

23:11going to be aggressive. We're going to add players. Sherman was in it. Bendix was in it. It was exciting. And the Marlins don't add anything. Other teams around the league do. And the Marlins find themselves way behind the fall and fall. And way far out of the playoff push. They're not making the playoffs this season. And all we can do is look to next year. Coming up, I'm going to tell you how the Marlins can fix their attendance problems. All they got to do is take a look 30 minutes north to another professional team in town. The Florida Panthers have laid the blueprint on how you be a team that goes from a very limited fan base, limited attendance to a team that is near the top of the league in attendance. They've been overshadowed by the Miami Dolphins, the Miami Hurricanes. South Florida is a football town. There's no denying that.

25:14And they have struggled with attendance issues. But I see a lot of parallels between the Miami Marlins and the Florida Panthers. Panthers were in the same situation that the Marlins were. Having trouble, I'm getting fans in the building, having trouble putting it out a competitive ball club, a ball-cog-hockey team. And that was until the last couple of years. The Marlins started winning and their fan base exploded. And I don't think it's only because they started winning. It's more than that. The Panthers were in the bottom five of attendance from 2016 all the way until 2021. They made the playoffs in 2020 and 2021. They had the worst attendance in the league in 2021, although they made the playoffs. So this thing takes time. But what the Panthers were able to do, the Panthers built a foundation of players, coaches, broadcasters that fans could recognize,

26:19that fans could become fans of and fans could grasp onto for years and years and years. Year in and year out, it's the same core group of guys with the Florida Panthers. Alexander Barcoff, Matthew Kitschuk, Aaron Eckblatt, Sam Reinhardt, Sam Bennett, Paul Mariefez behind the bench, Steve Goldstein in the booth, all of these things matter. And a hockey buzz began to grow down here in South Florida because of it. Not, yes, listen, you went, you went, the Panthers had a home run. They don't want a couple of Stanley cups that absolutely helped their attendance. But that's not all it was. I don't think, I think if you take away the Stanley cups and let's say the Panthers lose in the Eastern Conference finals, those couple of seasons, I still think the fan base grasps onto this theme and the Panthers have a top 10 fan base in the league because of it, because of all those guys that they brought in that they have maintained. It's a two-pronged

27:24system. You got to win games and you got to maintain your talent. We saw it with the Marlins, timing and time out. You take a look back at their 2003 World Series team. Do you imagine if the Marlins kept that young core and we had a young core of Mike Lull, Miguel Cabrera, Don Trial Willis, Josh Beckett, Brad Penny for the next five to 10 years, you're telling me that the fan base wouldn't have grasped onto that. They wouldn't have become lifelong Marlins fans, getting behind these guys. Miguel Cabrera, Josh Beckett, Don Trial Willis, coming off of a World Series championship. Come on. That's ridiculous to say that the fire sale right after the World Series didn't have anything to do with the lack of attendance. We've seen this time and time again, regime and regime again with the Miami Marlins, with the Florida Marlins. When I was growing up, I was really excited about the core of guys we had. John Carlos, Stan, Christian Yelich,

28:28Marcelo Zuna, J.T. Real Muto, D. Gordon, Jose Fernandez. Obviously what happened to Jose is a tragedy that is unforeseen. But the rest of that core, a lot of them are still high level players in this league. It's been 10 years. If you imagine if the Marlins held onto that core, that's one of the best lineups in baseball. Still, and you add some pictures to that group, and that's an exciting baseball team. The Marlins have always gotten rid of their players too quickly. I just talked about this with Liam Hicks a couple of minutes ago. The Marlins have always had a problem of maintaining guys and having a face of the franchise. They've done a good job with Sandi Alcantra in recent years. But if they let him walk this off season, then they're right back to square one. The Marlins fan base, what little fan base they have right now is going to turn on them again. The only way to get fans consistently in the ballpark is to put

29:33out a winner and have uniformity throughout the organization. You're in and you're out, guys that you can grasp onto, guys that you develop, guys that you've built up through your organization. What the Marlins have been doing just doesn't work. You take a look at that 2023 team that made the playoffs. It's a whole new team right now. It's only been three years. We're three years removed and a lot and most of those guys are gone. I think back at that team, and I think about guys like Jake Berger, Josh Bell, Brian Dele Cruz, Jesus Sanchez, all of those guys are gone. Jorge Soler, all of those guys are gone no longer with the Marlins, and it's only been a couple of years. I'm begging the Marlins to hold on to Sandiak Contra, to hold on to Otto Lopez, to hold on to Max Meyer, Xavier Edwards, Kyle Stowers, Arab Bertor Hernandez, Javier Sonoha, and let's build this thing up. Add some guys into this thing. Obviously, you're not going to be able to keep everyone from one year to another, but try to

30:38keep the core here together and give these fans something to grasp on to. That's my homework assignment for the Marlins moving forward. Obviously, they're not making the playoffs this season. They've given us some fun moments this season. It's been an up and down year. We've had our shares of peaks. We've had our shares of valleys, valleys. But the only way the Marlins are going to consistently get fans in the ballpark is if they follow the blueprint that the Florida Panthers laid out for them. It doesn't mean winning World Series. That's not what I'm getting at. You don't have to win back-to-back World Series like the Panthers won back-to-back Stanley Cuffs. It'll help, but that's not what I'm getting at. The point is the Panthers built an organization. They built a foundation. They built a core. A core of guys that the fan base can latch onto and remember and become fans with and grow with and share hardships as well as celebrations with. The Marlins just don't have that. Until they do, their fan base is going to stay in the bottom five of Major League
