1:29
Let's get started at nm.com, the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
1:34
It was one of the next Milwaukee Bucks on the court last night in the Arizona Arkansas
1:40
I have some thoughts.
1:41
I'll ask a meal as well coming up next.
1:49
You are locked on Bucks.
1:50
You're daily Milwaukee Bucks podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team
2:00
Welcome into locked on Bucks.
2:01
I'm Justin Garcia joined as always by Camille Davis.
2:05
And as we mentioned, Camille, a big game last night in the NCAA tournament, Arizona,
2:12
There was a lot of talent out there, a couple of names that are projected to be selected
2:17
somewhere around where the Bucks are picking and figured, hey, one of these two of these
2:24
names, really, we've talked about quite a bit on the show recently.
2:27
We get to see him go ahead to head.
2:29
So let's get a scout in here on these two teams and a couple of players and see what
2:34
stands out for a potential number 10 pick.
2:39
There's a wild cats prevailed, praise the Lord.
2:43
And I just have one question, I guess.
2:46
So we've talked quite a bit about Braden Burries and Darius A. Cuff watching that game last
2:54
If there was one player on the court that I told you you can have, Buxel draft them,
3:02
you get to choose which of the guys that played last night, anyone outside of the names
3:09
Is it based off of just seeing that one game last night of like a blind, hey, we just
3:15
dropped you into the arena, you get this one game, pick the player or it would have
3:21
I've had more footage, but yes, okay.
3:25
Well, then for me, it comes down to three names that we have talked about before.
3:30
So I'd be thinking between Darius A. Cuff and watching what he was able to do on an
3:34
Arkansas team that just looked outmatched throughout that entire game, but seeing him still
3:40
find ways to put up points and try to keep his team somewhat connected was interesting.
3:46
But then I would look over to that Arizona sideline and be, okay, well, this is a team
3:49
that just scored over a hundred points, only took like, or made like five threes along
3:54
the way and just as a team looked fantastic.
3:58
The defense was there for him.
4:00
And then I'm like, okay, that guard they had, he looked kind of nice, Braden Burries, he
4:06
A combo guard that has shown that he can be aggressive in trying to find a shot.
4:11
He was efficient during that game last night.
4:14
But ironically enough, the guy I would pick if it was just like the one game is actually
4:19
Coa Pete, where it was just like he just flashed as a wing prospect in so many different
4:25
Like the rebounding necessarily wasn't there for him in the game, but just the rotations
4:29
from him, the efficiency that he had in scoring the ball, just kind of, he felt like a player
4:33
that was sure of himself and knew what it was required of him.
4:37
And he did not do much outside of himself and everything that he did for the team just
4:42
felt like it was in line.
4:43
So I think I would go with Coa Pete if it was just based off that one game last night.
4:49
Yeah, I, I was pretty pleased with Coa Pete last night.
4:56
I just seen a decent amount of him this year, I still just get a certain type of vibe
5:06
from him in terms of player comps like a, and this is going to sound like I get a lot
5:13
of like Rui Hachemura vibes, I get a lot of poor man's pile of bank hero type of vibes
5:23
He was good defensively, good enough defensively last night, but that's a question that
5:31
He's not a shooter and he's a bit undersized for I think he's going to be a tweener.
5:36
I don't know how he'll translate to defending wings in the league and he's undersized for
5:44
Yeah, I have interest there.
5:45
But to me, I think Braden Burries is the most complete player that was in the game last
5:52
My hesitation with that is, okay, what are you doing it's more forward though, because you've
6:01
already got Ryan Rollins.
6:03
If we presume you still have Kevin Porter Jr. number one, where does he slot in?
6:09
Because if you end up drafting Braden Burries.
6:12
I think that does mean something's happening with one of those other two guys that you're
6:17
not going to after what we just lived through and talked about.
6:20
You are not saying, okay, this is our starting back court, three guards, KPJ, Ryan Rollins
6:25
and Braden Burries here.
6:29
And by the way, you got AJ Green under contract.
6:31
So to me, that would signal some type of move has going to have to be made.
6:36
And I just don't know who you're like, it's so dependent on who your small forward is.
6:40
And as we found, that's the toughest thing to find in this league is a winged size that
6:45
fits all of those skills.
6:47
So I think he's going to have a fine career, I just, I don't think it'll be here because
6:54
And if it is, I think it's going to present some challenges.
6:57
So it's weird in that sense for me in that the name that I am going to mention is not
7:03
the most talented of the group and is not even expected to be a first round pick.
7:08
But if we keep the exercise as simple as, here's the team that you have.
7:12
You can add one player from this group to your team.
7:16
To me, it's pretty simple.
7:18
So I'll share who it is, people coming up after this.
7:23
The playup push is heating up and tournament hoops are here.
7:26
There's no better way to get in on the action than prize picks where it always feels good
7:30
Every bucket, every dime, every big moment means more when you're playing on prize picks.
7:35
That's the number one daily fantasy sports picks app incredibly simple to play because

7:47
You can grab baseball, basketball, hockey and more and they even have early payouts.
7:52
So if your player gets off to a hot start, you can lock in a win before the game even ends.

9:52
All right, so here's the tricky part.
9:56
Two years ago, this is like, yep, ideally, this is what we need because we got stars supplement
10:04
And what you have there, that it's the backwards way of building where, you know, I hearken
10:11
back to all those Brewers teams from the 90s, Camille, and I'm like 30 years older than
10:19
So you probably remember Lenny Harris, the pinch hitter.
10:23
No, one, let me say, I'm not a baseball person like that.
10:26
So over my head, over my head, the only thing I remember about 90 Brewers baseball is
10:32
how much I love it.
10:34
That and I love the logo.
10:37
And by the way, I saw the, like, I don't like to advertise it.
10:40
I root for the white socks too.
10:42
And the Brewers, I have multiple teams in baseball.
10:46
I wore the white socks hat because it's going to be a rough year again.
10:49
Like we've grown accustomed to that, but we get sidetracked here.
10:52
So Lenny Harris was one of the best pinch hitters in the league.
10:56
And there was one year there, either the late 90s or early 2000s, when the Brewers got
11:01
I think it was in the Jeremy Burnett's trade.
11:04
And it was like looking at it, like, okay, we have one of the best pinch hitters in the
11:10
Everything else on the team sucks.
11:12
So like, where are these opportunities going to come from?
11:15
It's like in high school when you had a beater car and that really sweet stereo system
11:21
That was the makeup.
11:22
So like, that's the danger of this and saying, yeah, you get this great role player that
11:27
can fill a lot of roles for you and plug a lot of gaps.
11:31
But what's it ultimately going to do if the team doesn't have a star and doesn't have
11:35
identities and how they're going to play?
11:37
That being said, to me, the guy that I've watched all season, and I think I've mentioned
11:42
it on the show a couple of times.
11:43
And I watched again last night and said, and this is like everything the bucks don't have.
11:49
He's a gritty player.
11:50
He does multiple things.
11:51
He plays a position they need, like, this would be it.
11:55
And ideally, if I could have dropped this guy into last year's team with his group,
11:59
perfect, then we're cooking.
12:01
But to me, it's Ivan Karchenkoff.
12:02
And he's going to end up being a second round draft pick.
12:05
His dad was a pro player in Russia.
12:08
So he has that pedigree.
12:10
He's six, eight ish.
12:12
He can shoot, but he attacks the basket.
12:15
He's an annoying defender who can move his feet enough to be, you know, not bad defensively.
12:21
And again, small forward that checks off all those boxes that we've seen.
12:25
What happens when the well runs dry in that position?
12:29
So to me, that's who I look at and say, I know Ryan Rollins.
12:34
Ryan Rollins is going to be here.
12:37
I don't know, honestly, outside of that, what this team is going to look like.
12:40
Because I think no one else is untouchable.
12:43
And frankly, no one on the team should be viewed as untouchable when you're probably
12:46
going to lose 50 games.
12:48
I'm pretty sure Ryan Rollins is going to be here.
12:52
We need to start to find a lot of two way guys and start to build our roster of guys that
12:57
Don't have to be all defense players, but can defend, can handle the bowl, can do multiple
13:04
Aren't just a one trick pony.
13:05
Isn't just offense.
13:06
Isn't just defense.
13:07
Isn't just one specific thing of offense.
13:10
And to me, this guy checks all those boxes.
13:12
So if I could pick one player and I know he's not going to be a lottery pick, he's not
13:15
even going to be a first round pick.
13:17
But to me, that's the player that I would pick and drop into this team.
13:20
He might actually end up back in Arizona next season, too, because one thing that's been
13:26
interesting with NIL, hitting college basketball is like, if you are projected to be an early
13:32
second or second round, pick Perry, you might be able to make more money just going
13:36
more money and yeah, going back to college and continuing that lifestyle there.
13:41
So he might actually be someone you get to see on your own Arizona again next year.
13:47
But I think that type of player that you mentioned is the ideal type of player the Bucks should
13:52
be looking for where you do need guys that can do a bit more like one of my takeaways
13:57
from the 2025 26 season for the Bucks was, man, I really miss when we were a good defensive
14:03
team because yeah, it's been cool having the game so far this season where you see them
14:08
and really like the scoreboard.
14:09
They, as we've talked about, been one of the teams that's been top and effective field
14:13
goal percentage all throughout the season.
14:15
They just haven't been able to find a way to generate enough shots.
14:19
And the defense has just been so bad that on the, the, the nights where the offense isn't
14:23
clicking on all cylinders here, it feels like their pathway to victory is, is road blocked
14:29
because they just don't get enough stops.
14:32
So I'm definitely here for the Bucks adding guys to this roster going forward that can bring
14:38
that, excuse me, the edge back defensively to this team that can just do all the things
14:43
that can kind of be gritty along the way.
14:46
So I can see, I can see it, which is probably why I also picked Pete myself where I was
14:52
like, he projects as the kind of guy that can just do a little bit of everything.
14:56
And he has that wing size too.
14:58
So it'll be interesting to see because based on draft projections, as we know, they can
15:03
change and the combines going to happen and guys will move up and down the board.
15:07
But it feels like the spots like five, I mean, yeah, like five through 10 are just very
15:15
guard heavy right now in this draft.
15:18
So if you're picking best player available, you might end up with a guard on your roster,
15:22
despite of what you already have or someone else might rise up the rankings and it's like,
15:26
Hey, actually, let's go this Robyn's dead.
15:29
I mean, did you see the, we may have spoken too soon.
15:33
Did you see the story from no ceilings in the right up they had on, her check off calling
15:38
him the one of college basketball's most undervalued NBA prospects in this upcoming draft.
15:44
But their point was the same as well of like, look, he does all these things great.
15:49
Maybe just take the NIO money and go back to college.
15:52
And then next year we are talking about a lot of repick for him.
15:55
So to me, that's the guy.
15:58
So leave your thoughts to we didn't mention Darius a cuff at all.
16:02
His team lost and he was okay.
16:06
But to me, it just more of, I think what your overall fears would be about him, like nobody
16:12
questions his ability to score kind of the same thing we talked about with Cam Thomas
16:17
in that if you're going to be undersized in this league and if you're going to be undersized
16:22
and only really do one thing on offense, you better be elite at it.
16:28
And a cuff last night, 28 points in 37 minutes, but that's my question is a ball dominant
16:37
point guard that's undersized in this era of the NBA.
16:42
I respect the talent.
16:43
I'm going to enjoy watching him.
16:45
I just hope it's the point where like, I hope somebody takes him before the bucks are
16:49
up there to pick because then it becomes these shoots.
16:52
We kind of have to take him here, don't we?
16:56
One thing I'll say about a cuff, that's a little bit different to me than the Cam Thomas
17:00
is that I feel like a cuff can initiate the offense a little bit better.
17:03
And my point was mostly just then not to compare the two, but mostly just like if you're
17:07
an offensive player, you better be elite at it.
17:11
And he looks like he has that part, but if he can also continue being just an engine offensively
17:15
where he can run pick and rolls, he can read the coverages, he can set his teammates
17:19
Like you have to be able to offer more than just scoring, I think, if you are an undersized
17:26
Leave your thoughts on not only that game, who you've seen so far in the tournament.
17:31
And look, let's be realistic here in that.
17:35
I would love to have Darren Peterson or AJ DeBonso, but barring the bucks, winning the
17:39
lottery and New Orleans finishing second, that ain't going to happen or vice versa.
17:44
So realistic targets that you've seen so far through the tournament, leave your thoughts
17:48
and we'll get to those here on our next show, two games this weekend.
17:52
And it could be something with the Clippers still needing to fight for their playoff positioning.
17:58
And of course, the Spurs who quietly too, Camille, they could be the number one seed in
18:05
That's that's on the table for him.
18:07
So I fully expect the Spurs to come out on Saturday like just bugs better be ready.
18:14
I'll just put it like that you better be ready because the Spurs are not going to be
18:19
I cannot wait for the first question to dock about how do you defend Victor Wimbledon?
18:27
I mean, if you got suggestions, we're all ears is the response that I would throw out
18:32
That'll do it for today's show for Camille.
