Hi, everyone. This is Hope. Welcome back to the podcast. Whatever your morning looks like. Whatever kind of weight you might be carrying, I'm grateful you pressed play. Maybe you're here because you're curious about affirmations. Maybe you've tried them before. Maybe you wonder if they're just for a certain kind of person.
Or maybe something in you is hoping they could help you feel a little more grounded, a little more steady. If that's you, take a breath with me. Inhale, exhale. Okay, let's begin.
Today we're exploring a simple but important question. Who uses affirmations? You might imagine affirmations as something only used by people deep in personal development or sitting cross-legged on a meditation cushion, but the truth is so much broader.
And honestly, so much more human. Affirmations are used by people who are trying, people who are learning, people who are healing, people who face pressure, doubt, pain, or uncertainty, and want to meet those moments with something steady inside themselves.
Students use affirmations during stressful academic seasons to regulate focus and anxiety. Athletes use them to prime their minds before performances. Therapists use them with clients to help interrupt harmful thinking loops.
People recovering from heartbreak, chronic illness, trauma, or burnout use them to reconnect with their sense of self. Leaders and executives use them to reduce decision fatigue and improve emotional resilience.
And maybe quietly, maybe privately, people like you and me use them to feel a little more whole.
What makes affirmations so widely used isn't magic. It's the way the mind responds to repeated intentional self statements.
Decades ago, psychologists Claude Steele introduced the concept of self-affirmation, showing that when people reflect on their core values, they become more resilient under threat.
Later research reinforced this. Studies have shown that self-affirmation can decrease rumination, soften self-critical loops, and improve receptivity to positive change. One review put it like this.
When we affirm ourselves, we're not pretending our struggles don't exist, we're reminding the mind that it's bigger than the moment that scares us. And that's why affirmations are universal.
They're tools for being human, not tools for being perfect. So let's try a few together. Slowly, gently, without pressure, let them land like whispers rather than demands.
Affirmation. One. I am learning new ways to care for myself.
Affirmation. Two. I can meet this moment with steadiness and compassion.
Affirmation. Three.
The word is not defined by my struggles, it is carried within me.
Take another breath here. Inhale and exhale any tension or resistance that showed up. If you've ever thought affirmations are only for people who already have it together, I hope today softens that idea.
There for anyone who wants to show up to their life with a little more intention. Anyone who wants to shape their inner world instead of being swept around by it, anyone who wants to heal.
And now a quick word from a partner in this journey. If affirmations speak to you, if you want a space to create your own routines, build resilience and rewrite the thoughts that wear you down, I want to invite you to check out the app we created called self-pause.
It's spelled S-E-L-F-P-A-U-S-E. It's available on both Apple and Android and it's filled with tools, guided affirmations and resources to support your mental wellness practice.
We made it for people like you, people who are growing, searching, healing, so if you're ready to nurture that inner shift, take a moment and download self-pause.
You have a beautiful day ahead. Thank you for being here for showing up and for giving yourself the same compassion you so freely give others.
