Why Macklemore Got Kicked Off Ed Sheeran’s Tour

0:00Hello and welcome to this episode of Kennedy Saves the World. So last week I told you about going to the Ed Sheeran concert and going to be a shock at McLemore's free Palestine rant. And you know, it's like the only piece of music that McLemore has released in the last few years that anyone has talked about at all was his free Palestine anthem Heinz Hall. And that was when the students at Columbia who were protesting on behalf of Hamas when they violently took over Hamilton Hall and briefly renamed it Heinz Hall. And you know, that was a rallying cry for the pro-Palestine movements. And you know, they always felt like the whole reverting back to Hamilton Hall was somehow

1:03a personal and moral affront. Their arguments are soft. They are based on very, very slippery logic. And they are emotional in nature. They are easily challenged. And you know, frankly, a big political and personal issue for someone like McLemore who he has this incredible platform. You know, it's like when I found out that McLemore was opening for Ed Sheeran, I actually have not been paying attention to him for many, many years. So I didn't know that he had become a rabid anti-Semite who got in a lot of trouble for putting on what some people who were extremely disgusted by his cause play called Jewface, which was very, very clearly employing some physical tropes and

2:04mocking the way Jewish people look and belittling them. It was an incredibly anti-Semitic display. I did not know about that. And there are people who I went and talked about going to the McLemore Ed Sheeran concert and they got mad at me because they're like, how dare you go to that show with McLemore there and it's like, shut up. You know, it's like, I don't go through the social media feeds of opening acts before I go see a show. I know about McLemore, what I had known about him from 10 years ago. It's like he's a kid from Seattle who had some hits and his success has pretty much petered out over the last few years because his songs were pretty repetitive and there's only so much you can mine from the well of mediocrity, which he did pretty well. He did well with the well and you know, since then I've impated attention to him. I was excited to

3:08see McLemore the way I would be excited to see, I don't know, collective soul. It didn't really like them in the 90s but it's like, I know a couple of the songs or maybe like the offspring. I would be excited if the offspring opened Fred Sheeran. I feel like yeah, there we go. Little 90s Orange County semi-punk rock, that'll be fun. And that was the same thing. McLemore, like I know a couple of songs. I know thrift shop and can't hold us. This will be great. And then of course, you know, as I told you on the podcast last week, looking around during his diet tribe, I was like, come on man, like you sound like a brain dead 18 year old Ivy League student who accidentally got into a once impressive university. And it's funny because look what has happened in a week and a half. People are still talking about McLemore in ways they have never discussed him. And Ed Sheeran's stock has tanked. And rightly so, I don't feel bad for Ed Sheeran

4:12at all in this conversation. You cannot tell me, but someone who is playing to packed stadiums with tens of thousands of people in attendance every night has no say over who is going to open for him. You also can't tell me that Ed Sheeran is without a team of minders whose job it is to go over articles, use AI, look at social media, and figure out whether or not those opening acts are compatible, compatible politically and musically with what Ed Sheeran offers his legion of mostly female fans. So you're telling me with all of that that Ed Sheeran's people looked at McLemore and looked at the accusations of anti-Semitism and looked at the land acknowledgments and the empty free Palestine rallying cry and went, that's our guy, that would be a great opening act. And then of

5:14course you have stadium owners who were looking at this who are personally deeply offended, and something like Robert Kraft is investing a lot of money philanthropically to fight anti-Semitism in this country because it is a real problem from the far right and especially the far left, the Hassan Pikers and the Candace Owens of the world, these attention whores are all about demonizing Israel and Jewish people and encouraging in their own way. You can glean the subtext. To engage in acts of anti-Semitism, rhetorical, and you know that leads to physical violence as well. We all know it. Don't go anywhere, more Kennedy saves the world right after this. All right everyone, welcome to ARCO Rewards Orientation, I'm Hannah. Whoa, is everything okay? That's a code green, someone just earned at least five cents a gallon in rewards.

6:15Wow, another one. Well that one's a code gold. The customer just redeemed savings of up to a dollar a gallon. Impressive. What does that one mean? Oh that's just picky. He gets excited when we talk about rewards. Savings of up to one dollar per gallon redeemable with 20 rewards dollars in your loyalty account, at participating locations, terms, and conditions apply. You've seen the statistics. Jews have been targeted since the attack, you know, the attacks have gone up like 300%. And it is because of these base arguments that Israel is committing genocide. I still want someone like Maclamor to define what is genocide? What do you mean when you say that? And are you upset that your version of genocide is being committed? And if that's the case, then why aren't you rallying against genocide across the globe? Where it's actually happening, where women and children and gays are being targeted and killed

7:17on mass, where there is ethnic cleansing. You know, it's like go ahead and point to that if you are making a sophisticated argument. And if that is something that has inflamed your passions and you feel like you've been put on this earth as a mouthpiece to fight genocide, then fight genocide everywhere. But if it's just, you know, free Palestine because the Palestinians are being killed by Israel that is run by the Jews as our stadiums across this country. So rich billionaire Jews are silencing Maclamor. Or maybe they can see what's happening to American Jews in this country. And how, you know, there are people who are terrified of wearing religious symbols in public because they don't want to be pushed in front of a train. They don't want to be victims of any physical violence or mugging or knife attack or God knows what else. And it is happening with alarming regularity. So, you know, the free Palestine, Israel is committing genocide.

8:21And because people like AOC agree with it. So now, of course, all of the acts on Ed Sheeran's tour have dropped out because they hate money. Even though they signed up for a very high profile stadium tour, they have all dropped out in solidarity with Maclamor. It's like, awesome. You know, why don't you guys all go hang out on Greta Tuneberg's flotilla de Gaza. And why don't you play everyone to sleep with your boring music? So, you know, no one really knows what is going to happen with Ed Sheeran. He's scheduled to play in Philadelphia this weekend ever since. Maclamor came out and said, you know, the Jews are running the world. And of course, they ran me right off stage and AOC and all these other people like, you can't silence his political speech. Actually, you can. If it is a private money making venture and you are alienating half of the audience who's there for a good time and they leave with some really, really bad feelings,

9:22you actually can make some adjustments. And that's on Ed Sheeran for not anticipating that in the first place. So, let me get the straight. So, AOC is now a free speech warrior. So, what is important to her is the sanctity of free speech, you know, disseminated from a high profile platform that might offend half the audience. Like, even if there is a risk that half of people there will be offended and scared, it's okay. Like, it's protected. It is sacred. So, if there were someone opening for Ed Sheeran and they were a closet pro-lifer and they went on stage and railed against abortion, railed against abortion and did it in the name of protecting the vulnerable and the oppressed, which, you know, is what Aaron Brown did. It's, you know, what Maclamore claims to do. You know, the people in Palestine are oppressed. Conveniently,

10:26they never talk about Hamas. They never talk about what is the role of Hamas in by embedding themselves and hospitals and schools and everything else. What is the role in Hamas with this ongoing conflict? They never talk about that, which makes their entire argument disingenuous. But if you had someone up there railing against abortion and railing in favor of unborn children, would AOC fight to protect their political speech? Absolutely not. And, you know, half the people in that audience would be disgusted. They would be up in arms because that is one of the few reliably divisive wedge issues we have in society, you know, along with the whole free Palestine movement. Well, save the unborn kids. That's not what people go to concerts for.

11:26Do you not realize that life is punishing and worrisome enough for most people? They worry about their personal safety. They worry about the fate of humanity, whether it's from AI or some sort of nuclear annihilation in an ongoing war with Iran. They worry about whether or not their kids are going to be victim of predators on social media. They worry about how they're going to pay for groceries and how they're going to someday maybe pay for college. Those are the things that people need escape from. They don't need reminding that there are plenty of people out there with intellectual deficits and half-baked political ideas that are basically warmed over nuggets of propaganda that have been fed to the American Academy via radicalized student groups who get them directly from terrorists. That is what people are now facing when they go see Maclamore

12:30at an Ed Sheeran show. And it is a buzzkill. That'd be like, you know, looking at pictures of dead children in the middle of foreplay. Sometimes you just want to get your rocks off without being reminded that the world is at times a very gruesome and dark place. So congratulations to Maclamore. He killed everyone's boner. And that's the point is forcing things to where you know you're going to get kicked off a tour and just doing it so you can claim to be the victim. While you are the one holding everyone hostage with your boring diet tribe and your crappy song and people are sitting there yawning and looking at their watches, just waiting for you to play one last hit from 12 years ago so you can finally show yourself offstage. That's what was happening

13:32in that moment. But congratulations to Maclamore because you know for this fleeting moment and it will be over as soon as the Ed Sheeran tour is over. No one's going to talk about him again. They're not. He does nothing to mend whatever disagreements are happening in the Middle East. He does nothing about moving the peace movement forward. Because in order to do that, you have to be an honest actor with a rational bone in your body. And there is a dearth of all of that. And Maclamore's tainted an adolescent soul.
