Woman Sentenced for Death Threats to Rayner

On March 24, a 63-year-old woman from Luton has been sentenced for sending death threats

and abusive voicemails to former Deputy Prime, Minister Angela Rainer.

Elizabeth Harker, targeted Rainer's constituency office on September 5th last year, the

same day Rainer resigned from the cabinet over a property tax issue.

Harker also mailed an offensive handwritten note to another woman, Doris Fortune, filled

with slurs.

The voicemails included menacing threats to kill Rainer and her son, while the letter

accused Fortune of scrounging and wished her harm.

Court records showed Harker made the calls from a phone linked to her home and was caught

on a doorbell camera, delivering the note before fleeing.

Both victims describe feeling distressed and anxious from the unprovoked attacks.

Rainer called the behavior unacceptable and Fortune said it left her uneasy even at home

with her dog.

The judge highlighted the serious impact, noting Harker was drunk at the time and had

targeted a public figure.

On Tuesday, at Westminster Magistrate's Court, Harker, with no prior convictions, received

an 18-month community order.

This includes 20 days of rehabilitation activities, a 12-month alcohol treatment program, and 200

hours of unpaid work to address her.

Long-term drinking issues.

She now faces two five-year restraining orders barring contact with either woman, plus

costs, and a surcharge.

Harker has shown remorse, attending alcoholics anonymous and seeing her doctor as the court

works to prevent future incidents.
