Sunday when I 6.5 a good morning. It's Joanna and Sean and I think this is becoming
what our favorite part of the morning where we get to have incredible guests coming into
our studio during women's history month where we get to shine the spotlight on the incredible
work that they're doing right here in Southern Nevada. So it's hard to believe that it's the
sixth year now of women who shine but we get to talk to so many great people who are just not only
making amazing strides in the community but also in the industries in which they work and this
morning we are welcoming into the studio Jamie Hampson. She is the GM at Fletcher Jones Mercedes
welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. Well we're excited to talk with you so tell us you
know how long have you been here in Southern Nevada and we know what got you to become the general
manager at Fletcher Jones Mercedes. Have you been in that world for a while? Tell us a little
bit about your background. Sure. So I've been in the Las Vegas area for just at one year. Oh,
so I can go to the area but definitely not new to the business. I have been an automotive industry
my entire adult life. I started in college answering phones at a dealership and never left all
these years later but certainly came to Las Vegas for the position at Fletcher Jones and oversee
the Mercedes dealerships on it Sahara as well as Mercedes-Benz of Henderson. Wow that is awesome.
Now I know obviously very competitive world it can be but we want to know a little bit maybe about
the advice that you wish you would have received on the first day of your career starting out
in that world. What is something maybe that you wish you would have been told to kind of inspire
your journey? Yeah I mean I think what comes to mind is you know ask for the seat before you're
ready. I think there's a lot of people specifically women that are kind of waiting until
it's perfect or they know everything before they feel like they're in a position to do more.
I had read a statistic one time where you know 60 men would ask for a position or apply when they
were 60% ready but women wait until they feel like they're 100% ready. Wow I think that's
powerful stuff right there. Sorry I'm not I'm giggling over here because as a kid you think that
adults have everything figured out and they know everything right and then the older you get you
realize how many people are just winging it right. And people there's so many people that are
are more unqualified for what it is that they do. So do not be afraid to ask for that position at all.
For a reminder yeah. So that's that said do you have any any quotes any motivational words any
wisdom that you live by on a day-to-day basis? I mean one something that always comes to mind when
I ask a question like this is just to own your own voice and decide for yourself you know what
that voice is before someone else decides how loud it is. How what I mean by that is just
know what you stand for know how to communicate it. You know don't try to fit into the situation you're
in just you know I think own own your thoughts own how you're gonna talk about it and then you know
don't wait to ask permission to contribute. I think that is something else is that I try to remind
myself and and certainly you know it's taken years to get there but I feel confident when I'm
ready to speak. Oh that is so awesome and so we're refreshing to hear and playing off that a
little bit since we are radio station. We'd love to know you know there's one song for you that you
could choose is like your anthem the song that sets the tone for the day you know what is that
song for you Jamie. I mean I think everyone should have a walk-up song. Yes you know for me
you know Eminem lose yourself. Hey okay you know I think I love part of your wrong. Yeah I you
know I feel like it it just represents that you know you put the work in you're walking in with
purpose and that you know it just kind of has you know I just feel like it's powerful but not in a
way that it's kind of an underdog feel. So but I just it's always something that kind of gets me
pumped up and so that that would be my walk-up song. I love that. You'd be really hard pressed I think
to find a workout playlist that does not include lose yourself on it right it's absolutely
a motivator. Do you play that many for you for your sales team to get them going each and every day?
I mean I should maybe that's something I should implement on the daily but absolutely sure it's
one that sticks out for me for sure. You only get one shot do not miss your chance to go right
I think that's the words anyway. Now we are finding ourselves at a very blessed position to
be meeting with a bunch of inspiring women through the rest of the month here. Do you have any
inspiring women in your in your life that have meant a lot to you and inspired your journey?
I mean there's been a lot you know certainly you look at you know women in sports or individuals
you know celebrities do cool things but you know right now where I am in my life I think when I
think of who inspires me it's it's my 19 year old daughter. Oh wow and I you know I think she's
just at a cool age where she just she's I don't know if it's naive is the right word but she
thinks she can do anything and she she works hard she listens carefully she takes the time to
understand people before she makes a lot of opinions or judgment and I just respect that but it also
as you know she's 19 years old and she just challenges me to you know be a role model for all kinds
of different ways and so I think that inspires me to kind of take the it's not always professional
it's not always a business it's it's kind of like my family sure I've got this young woman that
I can make an impression on and and she just inspires me to to be better. Oh that's such a good
answer. Sean's got a daughter who's six I have one that's nine months old so you know to be able to
to remember that we are inspiring our very own children each and every day. I'm kind of
changed your mindset a little bit too. Jamie I'm curious you've said you've been here for about a
year now. What have you come to love the most about the community here in Las Vegas? You know
someone that is not from here had only come for you know fun and work. I don't know what my
expectation really was but we have really just found a community. I think that it's such a
it's a big city with a small circle. I think I've been pleasantly surprised by it's been really
easy to meet people you know business-wise. The networking has been you know I mean you really
cool people with all kinds of different backgrounds. Right. The outdoors you know we move from Colorado
and so I was expecting you know hiking and biking to be pretty slim and none and you know here
that's you get all of that. Yes. Yeah for sure. I also moved here you know right out of years for
the summer was a little was a little crazy. Sure it wasn't used to that but you know obviously
this fall weather makes up for it. Awesome. Gorgeous right. Yeah it's gorgeous time to spring.
Well that's awesome and if people wanted to you know check out your dealership and learn more about
Fletcher Jones Mercedes. You want to give the website? Sure Fletcher Jones Nevada.com. It's we
have a dealership out in Henderson. Mercedes Benz of Henderson and then Fletcher Jones imports
on Sarah. Awesome. Well thank you very much for being a part of our annual women who shine a
program. We appreciate your words this morning. Thank you for having me.
Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean
