Sunday when it's 6.5. Good morning. It is Joanna and Sean and we are continuing on shining the spotlight on incredible women here in the valley and honor of women's history month during a program we call women who shine.
So we get to meet incredible inspiring successful women from all over the community and all walks of life and all kinds of businesses and this morning we're welcoming Joyce toady who is the owner of pause studio right here in Las Vegas. Thank you so much for joining us. Good morning. Thank you so much for having me.
Well, thank you for coming in. We know that you own pause studio Las Vegas here in our community will learn more about that in just a little bit, but we'd love to know you know your background. How long have you been here in Southern Nevada. Tell us about your journey to becoming a business owner.
Yeah, I've been here 18 years and I was in corporate America that took me around pretty much the world working, which I loved, but during the pandemic, like most of us, I was furloughed and kind of reset and reestablished everything I wanted to do.
I went back to school to get my MBA. And after that, I decided to become a business owner. First, I founded a women's since it's March and women's history month, most women listening have heard of collective women's leadership here in Southern Nevada, which is a high powered networking group.
And then I also launched pause and opened pause health and wellness Las Vegas in October of this year. Wow. Holy cow, get your hands full. Stay in busy.
You're busy and we love that. Now, thinking back a little bit, Joyce, maybe a piece of advice that you wish somebody would have given you when you kind of just started your journey. Maybe it was your journey in corporate America. Maybe it was your journey to be being a business owner. Is there any piece of advice that you wish you would have known before you really started your careers.
Yeah, don't listen to the noise. Don't listen to the critics. Right. There's always a critic and there's always someone with an opinion.
Most of those people are just not capable of doing what you're doing. So stay on your journey and always be adventurous. And you know what what the right thing is to do.
I love that. Right.
Surely nobody else has the introspective that you do on what you're doing. So got to tune tune out all the negativity. We try to do that every day.
We do that with uplifting stories and quotes, especially something we like to look to. Is there anything that, you know, maybe inspires you on like a mantra that you have or a quote that you live by.
Someone actually just told me this that I just learned. I'm not sure who said it, but don't take the elevator, take the stairs and do it in heels.
Okay, I like that. Right. It's much more rewarding. Right. And there's no hack because what really drives me nuts right now is online influencers. Sure.
We're telling us every five seconds. There's a hack for this.
But there you have to put the work in.
You do anything you're trying to do. So and that's a great reminder. I mean, Sean and I were both parents.
So we're raising children in a world where there are lots of hacks, but we didn't have those hacks growing up. So it's a great reminder that, you know, the work still needs to be done.
And a lot of these things that you see these hacks. They're just phases. Right. They're fads that just will fly by and they're not sustainable. Right.
So if you want sustainable results, you have to put the work in. I love that. That is that's a good model. Good one for all of us to remember this morning.
And kind of spiraling off that a little bit since we are a radio station playing ton of variety. You know, if there is a song that really represents you, your anthem. Let's call it.
Is there a song that comes to mind that when Joyce walks into a room and she's feeling her best. What song is playing? Well, I love. I'm every woman by Whitney Houston. Yes.
Solid choice. That's a really great one. To get away. We love some Whitney over here. That's a great one. Great anthem. I should say.
Absolute anthem. She's an inspiring person as well. Whitney Houston. And we have a pleasure of speaking to a lot of inspiring women throughout the month.
Is there anyone in your life in particular who's been influential or help motivates you or that you'd love to mention or talk about today?
I think all of the mentors along the way. I think my mom was definitely a huge influence. She worked, worked from the bottom all the way up with, you know, no formal education. And I think.
Just is women. We just have to put a lot more effort in some time. So so I I was lucky enough to be raised by strong women.
That's amazing. Yeah. And we could ever forget about people that we've met along the way in our journeys, right? Right. Mentorship matters a lot.
And I'm sure you meet a lot, but with both of your businesses. Yes. Many many. That's awesome. Well, we appreciate your time for anybody that maybe wants to learn more about the organizations that you you help and support and that you run here in our community.
