Florida State’s wild power outage ahead of their national primetime matchup against SMU served as a fittingly strange end to a very "meh" opening weekend for the ACC. Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio give major props to the ACC Network crew for navigating the stadium darkness and broadcast chaos like absolute pros. From college opening-week madness, the guys pivot to the NFL, building out their official "Worst to First" division winner predictions while singling out former division leaders most likely to fall from "First to Worst."

Then, ESPN and ACC Network insider David Hale joins the show to grade the temperature of hot seats and program pressures across the conference. Dabo Swinney’s current stubborn trajectory at Clemson to the end of Bobby Bowden's legendary tenure at Florida State. Plus, David reacts to Bill Belichick dodging questions regarding Michael Lombardi's resignation and the ongoing internal investigation at UNC, noting how Chapel Hill's changing administrative leadership is playing their hand with Belichick quite differently than the previous regime.

In the Lightning Round, the guys test a theory on why Lane Kiffin keeps picking fights with the SEC, check in on App State in the "Mountaineer Minute," and break down NFL receiver DK Metcalf’s wild conspiracy theories about Antarctica

This is OBS and GILIO. Let's podcast alongside Joe GILIO. I'm Joe OBS, in study for studios in downtown. Raleigh, thanks to Empire Properties and thanks to Copiers Plus. You can check them out online at copiers-plus.com, print management, document management, get everything you need to the cloud. And who knows, maybe you have power issues. Now, that's something that the city and your electrical provider, you're going to have to handle that. However, if you have technical issues with your Kiosera, well, obviously, Copiers Plus can help you with that. What a show last night in Tallahassee, man. Poor ACC. That was the cherry on top of the mid-ass Sunday they had all weekend. That's the kind of flavor that Jared would not even let out of the hatchery. Right? Like, no, the same working.

We're not putting that out there. But unfortunately for the ACC, they don't have a hatchery. They don't have a preseason. They can't test drive these things. Now, look, the power outage debacle aside props to the ACC network and ESPN for vamping and making do with what they had. Actually, I ended up being pretty compelling television. The game itself. The game itself was okay too. Not so much for your Florida state fan, but I'll say this. Okay. For those who aren't necessarily in the business and there's all sorts of ways that you cover sports. Joe Julia was a writer for a very, very long time and getting acclimated to the world of sports talk radio and podcasting and YouTube. It's a different muscle memory, right? You always like to joke with me. You could like bang out a gamer in your sleep. Yes. Muscle memory. Okay. You need me to bullshit for three hours? I could do that.

TV's a different beast. TV you don't BS for three hours. You got to be on it on television. I remember the days where Renee Chiu would look at me with wide eyes as I need you to stop talking because we got to get to the weather. This is TV, sir. This is a TV show. This news, okay? Poor Bill Leslie. Same thing. You'd be like, Joe, I'm going to need you to stop talking because I want one thought pause pause. Just the case they want to jump in. So you watch TV operate. It is on it. A blocks B blocks C blocks timing. You say this. I say this. It's been well produced. It's been rehearsed all that kind of stuff. Well, once you get to the game, you're done, right? Yeah. Well, what are you going to do for two hours after you've gone through all your scripts? So I say this to commend the set Taylor Tannenbaum and the crew Eric McLean. Our people, David Hale, and let's be honest too, if you're going to have to fill a

buster for two hours. Oh, geez. Jim Boe Fisher is the best single best person that you could have available to be able to fill a buster. Let's tell a story. Tell a story. With Jim Boe. Now, you just, like Jim Boe, we don't know when this game is going to start. I need you to slow down. Could you do it? It's like double space. We're like, you know, when you would have your paper do. Oh, and you have the, like, all right, how much further can I get from a double space? It's like a double and like a point two five, right? I need dabbo. I need, I need Jim Boe to do that. Although it's funny. You bring it up the paper. That was another thought that I had last night as all this stuff was unfolding. And people were flabbergasted by the, wow, how are you going to play this football game? There's no communications. They're all kind of stuff. It basically gave off the energy of kids today. Go on, wait a minute. So you're telling me you had a paper do and you woke up at 2 a.m. the day of and you hammered that thing out without chat GPT without Claude.

Yeah, dude. I was LeBron in my prime at 2 a.m. What a paper was do. So this me just about that. I was like, wait a second. You wrote a paper without chat GPT and it was the gen X person going, I wrote a paper without reading the book. You, you and me, we are not the same. Okay. We are not the same. Twenty pays favorite. Yeah. Yeah. So it was a little bit of an element of that last night. And we'll talk to, we'll talk to David Hale, ESPN, a little bit. He was there last night. We'll get his thoughts on how that all unfolded and his thoughts on Jim Boe. I'm not Jim Boe. Mike Norvell, Davo and obviously some more follow ups on Bill Bellicic and you and Sid. Yeah, the poor ACC. I mean, this is their big spotlight moment. And the game itself was fine. But you have this wonky delay. Yeah. And then it's just, it's also like SMU is supposed to be the second best ACC team and

after watching Louisville play the way that they did against almost, I thought that was encouraging for the league. But obviously you got Clemson who's a, is just an utter mess. NC State, you know, on the radar there, they were, they were a disaster and in their opening game. Carolina was good. And now you have all this other stuff going on at Carolina or Carolina was the success. But now you have all this other stuff going on at Carolina, Virginia. Maybe they can follow up on last year's, you know, 11 win season. Maybe they can do something for you. But my biggest takeaway from the weekend was, and even last night was, I'm not sure SMU has the gas. I think right last year's are really good coach. Yeah. I'm good parts, but I don't know if they have the gas to be an at large college football playoff team. And I think the ACC is squarely looking at Miami and Miami only being in the college football playoff. It is looking like that. I, you know what? I should probably go over to draft Kings and see if they've updated any odds on that.

I mean, like, and you know how people are college was the appetizer. We got NFL games tomorrow, which we're going to get into here in a little bit with one of our favorite games before the start of every season. Worst of first, but with football back, the weight is over. Football is here. And so is draft Kings. These draft Kings is now live in all 50 states. One app, every sport nationwide, new draft Kings customers sign up with code OG 25, spend five bucks to get $200 in rewards within 21 days, which includes all markets. Yes, we know the OG is all over the country. And now you OG listeners can participate on draft Kings and use that promo code OG 25. That's a new draft Kings customer. Have any of the odds changed? Actually, it would be worth taking Virginia to make the playoff. Okay. Because they're plus 950. Okay.

I could see them going 11 and one with their schedule. Now, I get it. Not every week is going to be like running the wing to a single wing against NC State, but their schedule is atrocious. So plus 950 is actually a pretty good number for them. Yeah. The odds makers are on the same wavelength that I am. The second ACC team is SMU plus 355. And then you have Louisville plus 600. This is just to make the playoffs. Right. Yeah. So for example, the second big 12 team would be be while you plus 270. That's kind of your comp, if you will. Meanwhile, you've got, you know, one, two, three, four big 10 teams before you get to the second five. Yeah. Sugar. You got five big 10 teams before you get to the second ACC. It's crazy. That's crazy. Again, subject lines, odds, all subject to change, including the NFL.

We got to care a lot of panthers opening up the season on Sunday, one o'clock against the Chicago Bears. You cannot get odds on the amount of times the Bryce Young trade the Chicago Bears turning all that kind of stuff and the cable Williams, blah, blah, blah, blah. How many times that will come up in the season opener? But I do know as of right now, the Panthers are home dogs to start the season against the Chicago Bears. That has moved to plus three for the Carolina Panthers. I think earlier it was at two and a half. So yeah, it's currently at plus three. But again, these things are all subject to change. Football is back at draft Kings. You see here with you. And use that promo code OG 25 and new customers who spend $5 get $200 in rewards within 21 days includes all markets in partnership with draft Kings. We mentioned that with the NFL being back, we get to play our favorite game worst to first everybody's favorite game in the NFL preseason mode worst to first. So here is the the usual stat that you hear this time of the year since 1990 at least four teams make the playoffs after missing it since 1990 at least four guess who did this last

year in the worst of first carol. There's did it at least one team goes from worst to first in their division in 20 of the last 23 years. What happened last year since 21 the last 24, 21 of the last 24 the Panthers, the Bears, and the Patriots did this last year. Of course, there's also the fun game who won the division and who's going to finish dead last, but we can do that later. I feel like sticking with the NFC South, the Carol out of Panthers did it last year. I feel like the obvious choice here and really overall the team to do it would be the New Orleans Saints. We're Tyler Schuck. Look like he was coming on last year. They are in terms of NFC South opponents to the Panthers. They seem to be the most competent ones next to the Panthers. The Atlanta Falcons write them off. It's to a tongue of Ioloa. They're all in for 2027 and Tampa's just had diminishing returns as the years have gone on, including last year's opportunities to try to wrap things up. They couldn't do it. But I think New Orleans would be the team that goes worse to first in the NFC South.

Yeah, there were eight teams that finished last last year. Five of those teams have new coaches to Troy, New Orleans and the Jets are the only ones returning the same coach. Obviously, Detroit is a little bit of a cheat code. They only finished two games out of first place last year. They technically finished with the same records. Minnesota last year, but still yeah, last place team. They're plus 175 to win the NFC North. They're actually the favorites to win that division. The Saints are plus two 55. They're the second favorite to win that division behind Tampa Bay. I'm with you. I would take New Orleans to be the worst of first team. I would avoid at all costs. I think the Raiders are going to be awful. I think Tennessee is going to struggle. And Robert Sala is the new coach at Tennessee. Yeah, I had actually forgotten about that with the whole camp ward back and forth. I went, Oh, yes, that's where Robert ended up. Can I just tell you like if you're Bill Bell check these are the kind of people that you're like, wait, you're giving Robert Sala second chance. And okay, cool. Cleveland is starting to Sean Watson.

Like they are in they are forget it. You have Atlanta and Cleveland in a contest to see who's tanking harder this year. Um, I, I, it was really, and the giants are the other one that people kind of like giants are plus 600. I actually think the Eagles. I feel like the Eagles are going to take a half a step back, but defensively, they're still so good that they're, they're for is still higher than the giant ceiling in my opinion. I also think the Cowboys end up winning that division as well. I know people are high on Harball. The giants have, haven't had an adult as a head coach since like Tom Cofflin. I feel like yeah, but to me, I think the best bet here is the the Boise State guys, who's the quarter, who's the coach at Norland. So my brain loses me sometimes. He's the one who was the Eagles OC. And this is now all escaping me. I know. Google's to our friend, Kellyn Moore, Kellyn Moore. Thank you. I feel like he's the kind of coach play caller that's going to put the Saints in the

right position. So I would take the Saints on with you. I would avoid the Cardinals at all costs. Apologies to Wolfpack for life. She could be per se. The Cardinals are in the most difficult division. Joe, they are 10,000 to one. That's not a misprint to win their division. Not the Super Bowl, but their division 10,000 to one. That's insane. So worth putting a dollar on for sure. Why not? But why not? Oh, my. Now, you mentioned Detroit. I get it. A little bit of a cheat code there from worst to first given that they were only two games out. So this gets us to the inverse of this over the past decade. Nine clubs went from first in their division to worst in their division. That includes the Detroit Lions last year. Okay. So who is on that summer jam screen that would go from first to worst? The Carolina Panthers are probably the one that you would identify.

Even though I just said Atlanta is in complete, like just rebuild. So thanks to Michael Panic's injury and to a talk about a low of being that guy. Could you see the schedule catching up to New England this year? I could, but they have the jets and the dolphins in their division. There is that. I think I think New England will take a step back. They had the the sunniest of sun runs in the history of organized sports last year. So I believe they will come back to Earth, but that's likely going to look like nine and eight or 10 and seven. Now, the team that beat them, the Seattle Seahawks, they're not going to go from Super Bowl winner to worst in their division. Are they? No. No, I think Seattle's pretty solid. They lose their OC. Obviously, they might have lost both OC and DC, right? Isn't the DC the new head coach at the Ravens? Yes. Yeah. So there's some staffing changes there, but I think their defense is totally completely legit. I mean, they know what their strength are in offense with Sam Garnold and I think they play to them. Yeah. And the running back that they took from Notre Dame is totally completely legit as well.

So the Debra Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, the Steelers, the Bears, the Eagles and the Panthers. The Lions went nine and eight last year. Yeah. Like the Bears were 11 and six. I think the Bears are going to have a really good year, but I could see them going nine and eight and finishing last in the division. So that is I'm going to go with the Panthers going from top of the division to the bottom of the division. I'm going to go with that. Yeah. I'm going to go with that because I just think Atlanta is going to be a visible. Like this is I'm not disagreeing with you, but the Panthers also have an injury problem that you catch up to them real quick. I just feel like all things related to the Panthers is on a very, very tight rope. Okay. That they have to balance. We're going to we're going to have the Steelers. Something happens there in Rogers is not that good anyway. Mike McCarthy is not that good of a coach anyway. You think that's by design that they want that to happen so they can actually go. I mean, they would have to finish below the Browns, which is going to be tough to do at this rate. Right. Now, I think the Steelers will be fine. Still will be fine. New voice, all that kind of stuff. Although I don't know DK Metcalf is talking about conspiracy theories about Antarctica being

a different world. We'll get into that in the lighting round. I did a fantasy draft last night. Didn't you? Yeah. I haven't had a fit. Well, last time I did a fantasy draft was with the show. We did it last year. We all hung out at Shady's and whatnot. If you're if you're wondering by now, you've probably figured out we're not doing that again this year. But Hannah, who's helped us out with some web and marketing, she invited me to their fantasy league. And I had the same issue with the fantasy league that I always have in that there is this excitement leading up to the draft itself that man, my energy and excitement wanes after about three rounds quickly, real quick, real quick. Okay. Okay. Oh, my goodness. First, let's look Josh Allen with my first pick. There you go. And then because I was the last pick was a snake draft. So last, then first. So it was Josh Allen and Krish McCaffrey over my top two picks, right? Now, this is not about like, hey, rate my my fantasy league. It's just more along the lines of I can't be the only one that has this happen to them

where there's this lead up to the draft. You're kind of hype about it. And maybe it's because it was virtual. It wasn't the same. But I've even had that experience when we've done it with listeners where you could just tell people want to get the fuck out of there. Like, okay, we've done five rounds. Can I auto pick this thing the rest of the way? Or what happened to me because we did the auction draft, right? Yeah, you, which I was not good at an auction draft. That was completely out of my depth, man. I had no idea what I was doing. And I got to the point where I was like, wait a minute, I have to spend this money on this player now. Whoops. Get some weird overvaluations, if you will, especially at the end where you're just like, man, I got five bucks. What can I do? Nobody wants this guy? All right, let's speed this thing up. So that happened last night. And I don't know. We'll see how the you got Krish McCaffrey. I did the triangle good all stars. 59% of the teams last year with Krish McCaffrey won their fantasy league. Okay. The biggest individual winner last year was Jonathan Taylor, 62.4% of the teams.

And at own Jonathan Taylor won their fantasy league last year. Man, kind of like my chances, maybe. We'll see. How skipping. How skipping is brought to you by Inovana. You can check them out a lot at Inovana. You have missed that you mentioned, a crash in Yolkabana. Give it green, clean with Emil Bono. I've lost all track of time. I know it's September, but we're already getting into the middle of September. And next week, next Thursday, we're going to be out at Bond Brothers, not Bond Brothers. We're going to be out at the Realtto to play James Bond. Oh, remember, I don't know what's happening. Remember, Hayes over at the Realtto. No G light should be on tap for this. Perfect. So, Realtto, they're doing all the spy movies and they're doing a James Bond run. And on the 17th, we're going to do Golden Eye. But before they play Golden Eye, Hayes is going to set up my Nintendo 64 and my copy of Golden Eye 64 onto the projected screen.

Yeah. We're pretty neat. I got to follow Matt Davis about those Nintendo 64 controllers too, because I've got two. I got to test to run it this weekend now. Yeah, I got two Nintendo, I got two Nintendo 64 controllers. So I'm very excited about that. So that'll be on the 17th. We'll put out some social media, but just keep that in mind that we're going to be playing Golden Eye 64 just for fun. These, I'm sure that we can put together, I'm sure I can get a hat. I'm sure that Hayes got some new merch. He's inspired logo. Yeah. Right. The soda logo. That's very, very good. And I'm sure you can give one of those away as well. And yeah, and speaking of beer, OG Light made by our friends at Bob Brothers, you can find that at P Street in downtown Raleigh. You can find it at Longleaf Swine. You can get it with your, your Smashburgers and barbecue and everything else. You get a class Jaguar T.P. beer study and Durham. And of course, Bob Brothers itself, they've got four packs of OG Light there in the fridge in the tap rooms. I go check that out with our friends at Bob Brothers.

Big thanks to Gordon Miller, Miller lending. We should get his thoughts on Detroit this week. Yes. We should definitely do that. We'll catch up with Gordon tomorrow or Thursday. Again, with Labor Day, I've also lost track of what day it is. Even though I know we did a show, yes, you know this. I keep thinking it's Wednesday in my brain. I know. But I know, but we know. We know labor on labor. We did labor on labor day. And the folks you courtesy for watching, and we actually get plenty of people watching. When I saw the numbers, I went, oh, a lot of you, a lot of you, I would board on labor day. She'll appreciate you. Now we appreciate Miller lending. They labor for you and make sure that whatever you're doing with the equity in your home makes sense, right? And a lot of people might be in a similar situation to me where in the pandemic, you refinance when the rates were low below three, you don't want to get out of that rate. Why would you? That would be silly. Miller lending knows that silly. So what they can do is work around that and use the equity in your home in other ways. So contact them today because whatever the rate might be today, it's a hell of a lot lower

than a credit card rate. Consolidate debt with Miller lending, Miller lending dot com, nine, four, four, seven, thirty, three, seven, take that thing to close and you will get a gift basket from Miller lending themselves. Gordon loves to give out gift baskets and we love to give away the free rowback from us. Oh, just 20 is the promo code got one in the car. So do you? Okay. It stopped. They're dropping new stuff all the time. In fact, my older son, Caleb, I had to explain to him when we came back for Charlottesville. He's not one for the print and I had to explain to him, okay, well, two things. One, they don't all have prints. They do have solid colors. You were wearing a solid color one yesterday. He's like, yeah, but the logo. I said, cool. Guess what? They also have polos that don't have the dog on the chest. They've got the stripe on the back, but they don't have the dog on the chest. Again, he's 18. He's protesting the fucking logo. He has thoughts. He has thoughts. I know it's called quiet luxury, Joe.

I don't know if you've heard about that. Yeah. Okay. So anyway, so if you are particular like my 18 year old, well, they have options for you. That's all I'm saying in terms of polos. He has to wear polos to work. And I was like, well, yeah, dude, you can probably, I can get you some rowback. He's like, and I showed him. He goes, oh, that's kind of nice. Like the harbor stretch polos. Have you seen those? Those look really, really nice. I can't pull those off. I do not have the body type for the harbor stretch, but Caleb does. So yes, all it rowback. Check them out. OG 20 is the promo code. You can save 20% off when you use that promo code. Big thanks to Blooming Blinds. You can check them out online at bloomin blinds.com. That's I N blinds.com. We're called directly at 99998915. We'll be back with OG after dark on September 19th following the NC State Vanderbilt game and the UNC Clemson game. And if you tell Blooming Blinds that you are no G listener, they'll take 15% off. You are work. So hit them up today. 99998915.

Blueminion blinds.com. Joining us on the Easter Automotive Repotline ESPN ACC Network. He is David Hale. You got power? You got power in the hotel? Yes, I have power in the hood. I mean, well, it's a fair field in so that it's just like a squirrel on a wheel, but it's working for now. Okay, okay. Well, I mean, as based on last night, as I pull up on YouTube, really, there was only one issue and one issue only when you're looking at the city of Tallahassee and estimated customers impacted. I want. I'm so hilarious. Literally, what? It's so funny. How was your experience last night? Game of side. That had to be a pretty wild lead up to finally kicking off around 915. Well, I think Florida State football is best enjoyed in a certain romantic ambiance,

a certain mood lighting to set the scene. It was funny talking to right, lastly afterwards. He was like, we were told when there's 330 on the clock, that's when we go take the field. So they go take the field first for stretch and then we go out and do it. And he's like, we're sitting there watching the clock and it just stops at 40. We're like, what do we do? And they're like, Florida State ops guys like, oh, and they're like, all right, let's just wait for 30 seconds after they take the field and then we'll take the field. Okay. And so, you know, it was, it was honestly like in some ways, like is as tough as a situation as that was, it was a tribute to people making things happen and getting it to work because like you look over on the ACC network set and E-Mac and Eddie and Taylor and Jimbo are vamping for an hour and a half, like go to them. You know, Taylor McGregor is doing the reporting and is doing a great job on that.

And Mike and Alfred and Damon Evans are all huddled together with Jim Phillips who's there and they've got the game and like, I mean, I don't know how they made this work, but I think that it was roughly like they took like a home depot extension court and ran it across the street and like plugged it into a surge protector. Like it was, there was a lot that had to go right for that game to get played last night. And let me tell you if they had said, nah, we're not going to play this game tonight. It would have been so bad. Yeah. My guess is they kind of operated like I do around Christmas where I have to go ask my neighbor Rick, hey, man, can I run this extension court into your shed? Cause I've run out of outlets, bro. And we go from there, but not to be cynical about this. And I read Jim Phillips, the statement again, based on what I saw watching TV last night, Jim looked cool and calm and even looked like he was cracking some jokes with the power situation. So good on Jim for being there and helping guide all this stuff. But like Joe's wearing his Garner Trojans, uh, rowback on today.

I'm, I'm tapping back into my time at N. Lo like high school high school football coaches are going, yeah, and okay. So you don't have medications, the scoreboard stop functioning. Buddy, let me tell you about the budget I got to deal with, right? What was I got lights, I got officials, I can see, let's go cause it's football. And I was watching the set and there was this idea like, well, you know, they, they've only had, they don't have the communications. What's going to happen? And it's like, this happens, it's called football. That's what happened. Yeah. It was funny. Written actually was saying the last time that this had happened to him, he was a sophomore in high school. There he is. And an hour and an hour and a half delay. And they had no power anywhere, no scoreboard or anything. And the game ended up 70 to 64 and was the high school game of the year. So, uh, yeah, this stuff happens. And that's, you know, Norvell and Lashley both kind of made illusions to like, let's go play some old school football. Now look, here's the thing, the difference between, you know, doing this in high school and doing this now, obviously besides the stakes are that you kind of practice this.

You're not used to using in-home communications and all of that stuff. And so I think there is, it wasn't so much that you can't do it. It is just that no one had prepared for it really. But, you know, I think they did a great job of making it work. And as you watch the offences out on the field, like I didn't, Milho. I was going to say it didn't seem like there was any problem. The Florida State didn't, but that didn't look different than normal. I'll put it that way. Okay. Okay. This is where Joe shaking his head because there are some bigger issues that made your electric bill. No, I'm not trying to get into David Hales pockets here, but it was really the symbolism of Labor Day is the AC season night and you can't even have, like, you can't even fucking tie your shoes and turn the fucking lights on. Yeah. Like Goddamn. Well, I went to, I've been to two games so far this season and both of them have had multi-hour delays beforehand. Yeah. And I'll be honest with you, of the two games and the four teams and the two delays, the

biggest train wreck was by far Clemson's offense. So I'm not even here to blame whether or power delays at this point. Well, that's actually, let's actually start, like the actual start of the conversation five minutes in with David Hale from ESPN. Both Mike Norvell and Davo are dealing with a level of heat. You know, I saw, I saw the jokes that the reason why the power went out of there was a power surge is because you had to heat up the seat for Mike Norvell. That's why like all those types of things. And last night didn't help. I mean, Joe walks into the studio and he's like, so let me check notes. An old NC State running back, you know, two teams over, right? And an ECU wide receiver, right? And this is happening to you, Florida State. So you got the Norvell of it all. And then you also got Davo. And I always joke that you are the Davo whisperer as it relates to, you know, what he's thinking, how he's operating, things like that. And I know it's just one game and we see blowouts and teams bounce back. Man, it really did just look like Davo's not built for this era on display in one game,

especially going to Lane Kiffin, right? And Lane Kiffin was being polite in the way he talked about it as well. So, so that's so it's just publicly, publicly, publicly polite. So that's kind of where we're are. Like, you know, shout out to my guy, Ramar on social media who, you know, Joe, Dr. Jim Phillips to FSC in Clumson in 2030 with the, with the Odyssey meme, get these beggars out of here. Yeah, that's kind of where we're at right now with these two programs. And that's not good for the ACC. Well, and, you know, I'm sure we'll get to this too. But when you're, I think you could argue quite rightfully, your three highest profile coaches, Mike Borvel, Davos Reini and Bill Belichick, like we, it would not be out of the realm of possibility to say that at some point during this 2020, six season, there will be a, like, final baptism scene of the Godfather where all business is handled. You know, it is, it is bleak.

And I was sitting next to one of the LSU beatwriters in the press box for that game. And he is like, how does this, when compared to like the 11 orange Bull against West Virginia, that 13 Florida State game. And I was like, this is so much worse, so much worse. Those games clenched at least had a pulse at something. This was as thorough and ass whipping as I have seen of a ostensibly good program that I can remember. And there's not a single thing you can point to and say, Clemson did that well. Everything was awful. And then, look, I think you can look at the quarterback play. And look, Chad Morris, love him or hate him, think he shouldn't have been hired or whatever, went in there and told Davo we need a quarterback and Davo didn't want to do it. And the lines of scrimmage, they're paying Matt Luke a million five to coach that offensive line. And it looked like hot garbage. The defense of front, which was the staple of this Clemson program under Brent Vennibles has disappeared.

And like, and to Davos credit, I said, I asked him after the game because everybody is comparing this, you know, how you build a team to how Lane builds a team. And is this a referendum on what it is to build a football program in 2026? And he said, of course, no. But the point that he did make that I don't disagree with is we screwed up a ton of football things. We couldn't set an edge. That doesn't take talent. That's just doing what you're supposed to do. And I mean, look, there was a clear talent disparity on display there, but they also just didn't do what they were supposed to do. They look poorly coached. They were poorly executed. And then they looked like, I mean, and let's also be frank here, LSU's budget is $57 million. Clemson's budget's like 28, 29, maybe 30. Like there is a distinction here, even if Clemson is towards the top of the ACC, there is a distinction between where Clemson is and where LSU is financially. Yeah, as much as Davos wants to protest, it truly is what it is, right?

We got LSU's quarterback from Arizona State, Ronin back from Wisconsin, top receiver from Ole Miss, offensive line, defensive lines from all over the country. They're sitting there picking and choosing the all-star team that they want to put together. Let's think about Clemson's problem because people are like, I have some state fans, right? And you'll enjoy this who are just, they're dying for Carolina to go down there and beat them because what's going to happen is you're going to have the eye at when NC State plays Clemson. I am maxima really is. Maxima really, right? See, you go full gladiator. And then, and then Duke goes down there, Carolina goes down there. My name is Jeff and it's like, really Clemson, really? You're going to do it to us like this, Clemson, all these years of kicking our ass. Now you're going to be, now you're going to be my name is Jeff. Here's the problem though for Clemson. That's perfect analogy though. Sometimes you have to have that state brain.

Here's the real problem. And we've, and I've tried, I've gotten more and more involved with some people on the high school level who have been recruited and there's a kid of Carter's going to Miami. Another one of my, my friends his son's going to state is going to be their kicker next year. And there are X number of programs that are actually paying for recruits, the best high school players in the country X, high state, Miami, Georgia, Alabama. Notre Dame, I think Notre Dame still paying actual freshman. And then there's a class that is LSU, Lane Kiff and Ole Miss, Texas Tech, who are going to buy their team out of the portal. Like now we're going to pay money here. Well, if you're Clemson and you're not going to buy your team out of the portal, they're also not now competing for the Dexter lorances of the world, for the AJ Randles of the world. Apologies, the kid at a, who I saw Millbrook has two kids, one's going to Ohio State, one's

going to Oregon. Those are classic kids. North Carolina, five star players that all go to Clemson and kick everyone's ass at Clemson and now they're not paying those kids. So they are truly a program with no country. Yeah. You're not paying the high end high school players. You're not paying the portal players. You're a valuation of some of these high school players. Yannick Smith last nice a great example. And ECU forever has gotten players like that. And forever will get players like that. Clemson, yes, Sammy Watkins was a big deal. I don't know if Andre Ellington and some of these other guys were as big of a deal. But you went to watch them and watched them ran the fucking hundred and you're like, that guy's a baller. That guy's going to be a player. And I just feel like they're in this, this, they're lost. And I'm remiss. Always getting it mad at me. I'm not publicly airing our dirty laundry right now.

But if we had a producer, we would have gone back and pulled our quotes from when we set when Davos sat down with us in Charlotte and I tried to like pull this out of him. You tried. I tried my best. I even gave him a full of rivers. And I don't like that. And at your paint and a and a Jericho country and a new copkins and and it's just like I tried pulling this stuff out of him. But he's, it's just so objuret about the reality of what college football has become. And you are, you are so spot on with this from. It's just sad. It is because he's so much more and they can be so much more. Oh my gosh. Like, okay, you're stealing all my material here because I 100% agree with you. And look, you talk to people around Clemson. And I think their biggest frustration is not the losses and not Davos going to do things Davos way. It's his unwillingness to admit how far it has fallen. It is the we're just two or three plays away. Yes, so is everybody is two or three plays away. Except until you got to LSU and now you're two or three hundred plays away.

And you know, I remember after that Florida State game, he very famously said, if we played ten times, we wouldn't beat him five. Then all the Florida State fans got mad. That was not true. You could have played that game a thousand times and they would have gotten beaten two thousand. That's how bad that was. And you're right too that they just they have not established an identity. And one of the things and I think this is kind of what you're getting at. The Davos way, the culture and relationship way of building a program does not have to be lost here. It just has to be done in conjunction with running a coherent business model for two thousand twenty six and beyond. Yes. And in fact, I would argue that all of that stuff that made Clemson stand out in an era of traditional recruiting can make them stand out just as much in an era of transactional recruiting. You can be the antithesis to Lane Kiffin and how they're building a program and sell that. But you still got to give the money because the money starts, the money is where it starts. And then I would argue that the single biggest problem that they have is that Davos cannot

evaluate his own talent properly and he will not empower anyone else to do it. They do not have a serious general manager. As much as Chad Morris is his friend and as much as Tom Allen has accomplished in this business, he's not listening to either of them when they tell him, we don't have these guys. We don't have the dudes. And he's like the guys. I've made this analogy a few times. He's like the guy in your fantasy football league with things he drafted, nothing but the best players. And you come to him with a good trade and he won't do it because his players and his mind are so much more valuable than whatever your players are. Oh, and that's also backed up by who he's put on staff. It's for players, his guys, guys who are not necessarily going to push him because, well, I'm helping you out. I'm getting you your start in this coaching journey and we're going to do it at Clemson. Well, wrap the Clemson portion of this and to Joe's point, if we were a, if we were a fully operational media company here, rather than a two person LLC, I also would have gone back into the archives and pulled Davo multiple press conference, adamantly telling you if

this is going to be professional sports that I'm out. Okay. Now a lot of coaches say that it's bluster. You got to say it because you got to say it. Now the difference between Davo and Nick Sabin is that when Nick Sabin would tell you, hey, guys, this is the deal. I don't know if we want this. It was a message to his boosters. Do you want to keep up? Then we have to do these things. It wasn't Nick saying, I'm out because of this. It was guys. If we're going to compete, we got to be with the times. I might not. But it is what it is. Okay. This is, I'm glad you mentioned this too because this is the thing as far as just now I'm peaked holding a couple of weeks ago. He was talking about, he was Alabama when all of this shit started. And he was like, our donors did not want to give the money for NIL because they thought Nick's won many, many rings without it. And that was the story. And it was the story even before this at Florida State and Virginia Tech and places like that where they didn't want to invest because they had done it without.

And Clemson, frankly had invested. Clemson was at the forefront, look at the fucking slide over there and they're building one is at the forefront for a long time. And dabbo is used to say, if you ain't building your phone behind and it's like he's lost that because the building has to be in ways he's not comfortable with. But he's also fundamentally opposed to the professionalization of college sports, which is what we have. And when dabbo says he's against it, I believe him. Dabbo's not full of shit. Unless we're talking about the whole like a couple plays away. That's coach talk. When he's adamant about the current state of professionalization, he's a believer. He's a believer. He is a true, but he is Obi-Wan, you know, the hokey religions he believes in them. So when he says I'm out, at some point, I would be really curious if the boosters, if the administrators will come back and say, Hey guy, you said you were out. Are you real for this? It's too much money. But there's too much money. David, you're an unbelievable writer and this may not be something that interests you, but I would be remiss not to. I've been banging this around my head for a couple of days, actually.

There's a story, I think, that someone in your capable hands could write. Dabo Swini and Bobby Bowden truly were our, our, in a case of Bobby was a religious man and believed in using football and religion to essentially save people and enrich their lives. And they both built their football empires off of marrying football and religion and money kills everything except the Catholic Church. Money kills everything, right? You want to see my old high school, but this is it. This is the last of the religious, yeah, savior dynasties, that floor state, Bowden forever. Dabo had his run and now the money is just so much that I, I think the idea of being able to save somebody and rescue somebody, which remember always appeal to mom. Dabo, yeah, always appeal to mom.

And now you got moms out there going awesome, cool, but what's, what's the number? Yeah. And yeah, maybe I just wrote the story and two and not enough words, but it just feels like an end of, you know, the Holy Roman Empire, the Holy ACC Empire. All those years, these two programs have been able to marry those two things and I don't think you're wrong. And I, it's funny because I've thought about this for a while and a way going way back from the other side of it, like what an advantage it was at a certain point to be that. And I remember ironically enough, talking to Lane Kiffin when he was a Tennessee and, you know, coming from USC and him saying like, boy, you got a really like believing God out here or else you can't get players. I'm paraphrasing, so don't say that I said Lane Kiffin said exactly those words, but that is, that is the genius of what he was getting at. And now it is sort of, it is sort of the opposite. And the bound analogy too is funny. You're not the first person to, in the last couple of days, mention the bound analogy.

And one person was saying to me like, you know, somebody had explained or said that they thought this felt like the end of bound at Florida State. And I was like, yeah, the bound was 80 and Dabo's 55. And the person pointed out like, well, yeah, but think about the last five years of college football has basically been the equivalent of 30 years of college football. So like people are aging at a different level, perhaps. Yeah. Unless you build bail check, you're timeless. Yeah. Well, there's a way that you keep up and when you're falling, you get a little older and you don't quite have the energy anymore. There's some things you can do. I don't know what those things would be. We might tell you about it a little bit later on in Lightning Row from our friends at Game Day, man's help. Anyway, all right. So you wrote a fantastic piece at ESPN, heading into the TCU game that almost felt like foreshadowing with Michael Lamberti and the ultimate resignation that happened the following week and the fallout that we're still kind of going through. I understood like this is coming from somebody who has been banging the table that Michael

Lamberti, as long as Michael Lamberti was the general manager at North Carolina, they could not be taken seriously as a college football program hard stop. And a lot of your reporting and sourcing laid that bear going into the TCU game. But the one thing that hasn't been reconciled is that had it not been for an HR complaint, Michael Lamberti would still be the general manager at North Carolina because he is Bill Bellachek's guy. And you can and while I did joke, hey man, UNC starting out week zero, two and a, because they finally rid themselves of Michael Lamberti, it still doesn't account for the fact that it's Bill's guy. And the culture and however it was framed under Lamberti was a culture that was allowed to happen under Bellachek's watch. So that's the setup for what has been the reaction to you from the initial piece and then the fallout of the resignation and where we are today. One of the things that I, as I was reporting that story heard again and again is,

wait, what happened that expensive to just fire Lamberti? That's what you wanted to do. So the fact that we're doing this and still doing it frankly, even the lawyer said it, even the lawyer straight up said, what's 1.5 million dollars to university these days? And to me it's hard to not think that they didn't want to drag his name through the mud here as if it wasn't muddy enough in its own right. Yeah. You know, look, I do not take any credit for this because I don't think I was alone in saying this, but when the Bellachek higher happened and they first puts the staff together, I said, like everybody wants the point Jordan Hudson and say she's the downfall of Caroline and Bill Bellachek. No, no, no, no, no, no, she ain't been the problem. The problem is all the other people he's surrounded himself with. And he has wanted to be, I think, the guy who, this is his hobby, right? Like he's an old band with a hobby. And so he wants to sit around. He wants to talk to the players that he likes about football. And he wants to watch film of football. And he doesn't want to do a whole hell of a lot of else. And there's a lot else to be done in a college football program now.

And the people he is entrusted to do it are con artists basically. Yes. And, you know, this is, to me, that's, that was the inherent problem. Like he, he, he made Freddie Kitchens, the OC, when he had no business calling plays on offense. Because Freddie Kitchens had been the sort of inside man transitioning from Mac Brown to Bill Bellachek. He was always the guy who was willing to play ball. And there are people on the board, the same people who wanted Bill Bellachek hired, who said he got to keep Freddie Kitchens. Of course, as one source I talked to you said, nobody told him he had to make a OC. You just had to keep him on the staff. So like this is, it is, it is, to me, a, it is an underscores, Bellachek. And look, do I have a personal axe to the grind here? I don't think so, but I know it annoys the shit out of me. What an asshole he is to everybody around him who is not in the inner circle. And the fact that he went to ACC Media Days this year and blew off three different national media outlets

for three different spiteful grudges about dumb shit. It is just the most immature thing ever except the fact that he does it because he thinks he can because no one's going to stop him. And he does it because he doesn't think he owes anybody anything. And this is what we end up with when there is no oversight at all and you don't think you owe anybody anything. This is what it looks like. So where does this go from here? Because I positioned it yesterday that now that Steve Newmark is in charge as the AD and Lee Roberts has had to deal with some board of governors fall out because of John prior and money is ultimately the thing. It's why Steve Newmark has the job in the first place to spearhead things like football being series to Carol on a North project and things like that. It's, I'm not breaking any news here. Carol interested in Carolina football has plummeted since last year. I don't know. I'll be really curious to see how the crowds look like going forward because of all the things that are going on around UNC. If I'm wrong about the crowds, I'm wrong about

the crowds, but I don't think I'm going to be wrong because we've got years and years and years of evidence about this when it comes to Carol on a football. So it's not you bring up Jordan Huston. Like it's not lost on me when when Steve Newmark officially took over as the AD in June. You know who you stopped hearing from? You know, yeah, yeah, boy, you're a request, right? We have, I mean, she was in Ireland, but we didn't see her. You see what I'm saying? Yeah, so and then as to your point, I mean, complete agreement with you. You could have easily gotten Michael and Barney out of there. You could have just fired. You could have just bought them out and told Bill, hey, man, you got to make a change here. And instead, they want this mess to happen. So why do you think they want the mess to happen? You're speculation. Why do you think they want this to be as messy as a school that is very, very good about PR? I think two things. One is just spite, like particularly with Lombardi, he pissed off a lot of the wrong people. And and this was a little away of saying, and don't don't mess with my people. And two,

a little bit like dabbo, like everybody that I've talked to you says Bill has no interest in going anywhere. Like this is what he does. He coaches football. And that's all he wants to do. And you're not going to just get a get up and walk away on his own unless you make it absolutely unpalatable to be there. And so, you know, if you create enough of a rift, maybe he walks away and you don't know all the bunch of extra money. But even that, like I just, to me, I don't, I don't see it as being likely. Now the other, the other, not the miscalculation, by the way, real quick, isn't that the miscalculation? You're sitting here giving examples of how spitefully is and how stubborn it is. Right. No, yeah. Yeah. They did the whole thing where they weren't even letting New England scouts because of the crazy thing is I firmly believe he only took the job to spite Bob Kraft. He thought he would come in here and win a bunch of games and show Bob Kraft what a moron he was. I think that was the biggest reason for doing this. Joe and I were talking about this yesterday. Joe was positing the Hey man. I'm sure the original idea was he come, you come here, you win eight games and the NFL comes crawling back to you because we're like, oh, wow, look how you turn around Carolina. Like the plan was there, but the plan has blown up.

But he's so spiteful in that regard. Yeah. Pay me. You have to pay me to get out of here. It's that simple. And look, I think there's probably a little bit of let's cover all our bases now because I think the sort of the dovetail of this is like, all right, if we do this full investigation and this stuff's going to come out, at least we can say we truly tried to investigate it and do our best here. And then the flip side of it is we can say, oh, it's John Pryor's fault, right? Like, Bob, it didn't want to hire him. League, I talked into it. Like, this is their fault and put it all on him. And then we can walk away and start over fresh. No, it's exactly it. That is exactly it. Never a dull moment in the ACC. Might mean more in the SEC and the big 10 has Rutgers to kick around. Does she know what? The ACC, we got a problem, baby. We got we got BC Rutgers this week, man. This is the big one. This is the big one. And hey, you know what, the ACC has going for it that the big 10 doesn't we let you know which clock we're using. All right.

You know what? Yeah. All right. David Hale, ESPN, ACC network. All right, man. We'll talk to you later. Pleasure, gentlemen. All right. Always a fun conversation with David Hale at ESPN. Also, maybe it's not a fun conversation. But I bet if you meet up with Matt Davis at Stay Farm in Garner, insuregarner.com 919-779-8277. Yes, talking about your home and auto insurance doesn't exactly sound exciting. But ask Matt about his collection of like press passes and various other things from back in the day. Like my 97 TV. Yeah, 87, excuse me. 97 ACC tournament TV. There you go. So you go on. He's got all sorts of old stuff. He does. He's got he's got program. He's got all sorts of things from back in the day. Media guides. He's got it. And he's got great rates for you.

So hit him up. Insuregarner.com 919-779-8277. But also there's financial planning. Like you might find yourself in a situation. I know what my retirement will be. Like my dad. I'm just going to sell all my baseball cards. See, here's the problem, Dad. The baseball card market ain't like it once was. You just can't go to your Beckett and be like, well, you see, you've, I promise you. I promise you. This kangriffy junior upper deck card is worth hundreds of dollars. Upper deck continuously. Just keep kept printing and printing and printing and printing and printing. My dad will be like, what do you mean? I can't live off my Cuban baseball player collection. I actually know you do have to financial plan those things. So hit up mat day. It's insuregarner.com. I actually got a really good grade back on my Mickey Manning Mickey Mantle all-star card. I'm very excited about this. Okay. My dad's also the one that I'm pretty sure my college tuition was paid for with savings bonds. I'm not mistaken. Dad's smart man. It's very old school, very,

very old school. So yeah, I don't know. Maybe you can just cash in your baseball card collection. You use it as a down payment for a new house. I'm sure the folks at hometown realty be like, are you sure? I don't know about that. Let's find out some other ways. But look, there could be builder incentives that you're not aware of with new construction. There's new construction all over the triangle. So hit up hometown realty. They can guide you through that process and also make sure that you're maximizing the value of your home if you're selling it. So myhtr.com is the website. And I mean this by maximizing the value. You can look at all sorts of trends across the country. But one thing's for sure here in North Carolina or in the triangle. The housing market is still pretty strong. Don't leave money on the table. Those guarantee cash offers that you might hear about. There's a reason why they're like, here you go. You can take whatever. It doesn't work that way. Get the maximum value. Myhtr.com. And that's myhtr.com. And if you got to take that thing to close, Whitaker and Hammer could do that for you. WH dot lawyer. They can do a bunch of other things too. Legal business needs, personal legal needs, all that kind of stuff.

Attorneys and counselors at law, WH dot lawyer. And I guarantee they won't pop off on social media. Won't pop off. It's your it's your new favorite thing. Right. There's random people who come at us. And I can't keep track of all the random people who come at us. So I think it's funny when you find some and then I'm like, oh no, no, no, I always look. I always do the thing when people come real, real hard at you on Twitter. In particular, yeah, I always look, okay, what is this person about? Like, for instance, like I got a guy right now who's all in my ass about, I've got a perfect example of this for you. So I got a guy all in my ass right now about, you don't know Michael and Marty. And I'm like, okay, well, I can look at your, I can look at your Twitter feed. This is who you want to fly down. Like this is the person you're defending. And I can look at your Twitter feed. And I see you're saying a lot of things about people you don't know. But now suddenly I'm supposed to check it out, like, whoa, whoa, check yourself. How dare you speak like this about Michael and Marty. So it's like stuff like that that I always like to enjoy. And I see their timelines,

things like that. Or my personal favorite people saying wild stuff while also putting their place of business in their bio. Like, all right. Oh, I know. I'm not doing business with you lately. Anyway, yes. So what do you got for me here? I mostly like this is going to be a new segment for Whitaker and Hammer. Yeah. So there are certain things. It's funny. Yes, everybody, which I'm not trusting your eyes. Yeah. And I specifically remember in 2019, the infamous Clemson NC State came. I thought it was odd or note, it was notable, not odd, okay, that everyone on the Clemson football staff wore a, it's the same color polo, except right, Vennables, yes. And I thought to myself, I was like, it's calling normally the head coach is the one that says, hey, all you, you know, plebs are wearing white, I'm wearing red today, right? Or whatever the color might be. And I just remember pointing that out in 2019.

My point was he's different. And then watching the game, how very active he was during the game, I'm like, okay, Vennables is actually the coach of Clemson. Yeah, I remember that. Yes. I don't know other way to put this. Yes. And people were like, you're so anti-dabo. Now it's 2019, they're running hot. And I'm like, you don't understand what dabbo has done is he is secure enough in himself to say, no, I gave a thousand points to us for Virginia. I'm going to hire Vennables. It's a credit to help me. It's a credit. And then I'm going to get out of his way. And then if I can help him and give him some shine, I'm going to do that. That's a good thing. Same thing with Tony Elliott and Chad Morris and all the other guys that he tried to help have success as his former assistant. All I was pointing out was just watching the game, I said, it sure does feel like to me that Brent Vennables is like for all intents and purposes, the coach at Clemson, the day-to-day one who handles the most things. So yesterday Bill Jones comes out,

let me go back one more. So in 2021, when he left, when Brent Vennables left for Oklahoma, I said, dabbo Sweeney was able to keep this thing running after he lost Chad Morris, but it feels like losing Brent Vennables is going to be a problem for him. Yes. Tell me future boy, who is the president in 1985? Yeah. Okay. Okay. So Bill Jones, yesterday comes out with this tweet. Do you want to pull it up? Yeah. Okay. So Bill Jones comes out yesterday with this tweet. Yeah. I think he's a local guy who covers Clemson. Okay. I'm going to assume CBS bull Jones. Sure. Clemson before Brent Vennables, the year's 32-22. Yeah. Yeah. I saw the sun. I saw the sun. I saw the sun. I said, I'm thinking the right one twenty one and 17 two national title. Oh my god. Clemson after Brent Vennables, like before 32 and 20 is not bad, by the way. 37 and 18 is not bad, by the way. But an eight fucking war machine where you lost 17 games

in nine seasons and one two national titles. Sure. You would think this is like self-explanatory. No. You would think so. I end up getting this tweet from someone and I'm sitting here thinking of myself. All right. First of all, I was being a dick yesterday by taking a victory lap. Okay. I fully admit that. My tweet yesterday was I remember the pushback I got in 2019. When I had the audacity to point out that I thought Vennables was actually the game day coach, you all owe me an apology. Two thousand likes, by the way. 33 people though. That doesn't mean shit. 33 people though. With the, no, I'm pointing at it and get ratioed here. So, okay. That's what I'm pointing at. Exactly. Ratio is the 2026 is a half. So people are bots. So now I get this reply under one of the replies is from NKJV twice a day. Ready? Okay. No one owes you anything. Bill Parcells has had coach with Bill Bell check. Bob. Bob. Bob. Bob. Bob. Bill Bell check with Tom Brady. Bob. Bob.

Bob. Bob. And I'm thinking to myself, wait a second. What does this have to do with anything? Let me go to this guy's timeline. So then I go to this guy's timeline. I'm thinking, well, he must be, he must really be some sort of football, no, or in fan. But the Ellie scripture, oh, the daily scripture. Oh, my favorite. The daily scripture. No, I mean, look at all these sweets. Ecclesiastics. Ecclesiastics. Two. Yeah, first Peter. Now we're talking. Yeah. First Peter. Oh, yeah. For more first Peter. Take me back to these are all. Take me back to eighth grade. These are all scripture tweets. And then randomly to me. No one knows you anything. Bill Parcells. And he sent it to the original one too. It's like. What? Why? Why? I would admit that right there is my favorite subgenre of my favorite subgenre of reply guy. That that really is good stuff. Why? Anyway, that's your unhinged Twitter response of the week.

Probably by friends at Whitaker and Hammer. See a new segment. There you go. Boom. Boom. Because we know Whitaker and Hammer. They're not going to get online and pop off. My favorite thing segments within segments. I love doing a segment within a segment. Now we're in the next segment. The Lightning Rounds brought to you by Game Day men's health. Check them out online at gamedaymen's health.com. I'll tell you about them. A little bit later, we have some breaking news in the Lightning round. It is 1158 in the morning. This came out from Pete Fammall at what time at 1110 news. The SEC filed an amendment to its federal lawsuit against LSU, Lane Kiffin and school officials on Tuesday, which seeks the authority for the SEC to expel LSU from the league. Remember,

when this story initially happened and Ross Dellinger at Yahoo Sports had a whole like airing of grievances from various SEC power brokers about what LSU and Lane Kiffin were doing, there were people talking about kick them out. I'm pretty sure Ross had a blurb in there. It's not that simple. There's something about the bylaws where you just can't kick somebody out. So now you can dissolve the league, but yes. So the SEC has filed this amendment, which seeks authority to kick LSU from the league. Now the SEC is not expected to take such action, but the filing indicates the seriousness of the league as it attempts to affirm the legal right to enforce its own rules. That was the point of the original federal suit filed last week, with Dan Murphy and Mark Schlaiball at ESPN. That's the latest saga to be fair. LSU has not plead any of these guys yet, right? And Lane Kiffin, they might just be setting the table for basketball. The jokester. Oh, thank you. Just put a put in that. Put a pin in that.

Lane Kiffin, the jokester was like, man, imagine if we had pros, right? And look, I bang on late a lot, but he is funny. I'll give him that. He is funny. Now brought up the basketball part of this. I've been asking the question, why does Lane Kiffin want these three guys? I'm not saying they're replacement level, but they've got dudes. Yeah, obviously rotational pieces, I guess. Fine. Whatever. You got dudes, though. You know who doesn't have dudes? Well, yes. So no, well, eligible players, eligible players. Yeah. So could you envision a scenario that Lane is out here being the guy because he's Lane. He knows how to do this. Lane knows how to control the media cycle. Lane knows the game. Will Wade does not. Okay. We've experienced this. Well, things he knows how to play the game. He doesn't really know how to play the game. So Lane's doing this and will Wade is the one who

actually stands to benefit the most out of this because as it currently stands, that roster does not look like they're going to be competitive without the additions of the guys that Wade's been wanting to bring in. Correct. So this gets to the central question. I could see the SEC. I could see LSU going to bat for Lane Kiffin and football. Dude, they are not going to do this for basketball. They might do it for baseball, but they ain't going to do it for basketball. Come on now. So once again, we'll Wade flying a little too close to the sun in my opinion. Let's continue. Shall we? Yeah. Wrong one. What do we got here? It's on each topic. I've been told by several listeners that that listeners that that might be their new favorite lightning round jingle. Brian's is going to have to get back into lab, man.

All right. All it needs is some Billy Hicks saxophone. Oh, yeah. That's a good shit. All right. Let's for this next lightning round topic, it requires the OG sports foul. And first, as always, lightning round brought to you by the OG sports phone is brought to you by our friends at he's their automotive group. This is Joseph and Wake Forest. If you're frequent, a frequent listener to this podcast, you know, Joseph almost acts like the UNC on Budsman for this podcast. Uh-huh. Which we appreciate. He had this to say. This is Joseph and Wake Forest. I haven't watched your Monday show yet, but just might have done tack in the screen on the YouTube thing. Bellatrate watch. I can tell that you guys are misinformed. Sorry to say. If you got your news from W.R.O. you got some bad news.

And they're not walking it back. I heard that Pat Wielter at the press conference today trying to press and it's in written for them. Because if they had, they just posted questions. No allegations. Just questions. And if they had the answers, don't you think they'd let that out too? I think journalism has gone the way the Dodo bird in this world, it's a shame. I mean, what you should be talking about is Dorn watch. Because he had his ass hole ripped from one side to the other against Virginia. And I don't know how long you'd lose or going to spend for that man. Have a great day. You know, it's interesting. Joseph and there was also another call like from last week that people were incensed by like the Dorn defenders. I'd like to you guys listen to any of the shows last week.

Do you listen to any of those shows? Because we had to do an entire extra show of calls because of the Dorn last week. So yes, Joseph get that. Journalism going the way the Dodo bird. It's interesting that journalism is always going to hell on a hand basket when it comes to sports. The journalism is focused on you, right? If the journalism is focused on your rival school, well, then hell yeah, man, let's go. We go all the way back to the first go round with Butch Davis. And you had bus watch instead of Bella check watch. You got to remember the same thing. You mean, Dan Cain and all the other things that are going on now. I feel like this is the prime opportunity. I have a thought and I'm sure you have a thought here on yesterday's Bill Bella check press conference. I feel like we need to go into yet another segment within a segment. And we can get into Joe Gillio explains how a press conference works. And why questions get asked, even though you know you're not going to get an answer. Sure. Can you explain that one? Well, if you have first of all, if you're going to report something and they're going to say,

hey, we're not available or we're not going to comment. Then the next time they have availability, you have to go and ask your questions. Yes. I think that's just how it is. Because then you can say, well, I gave you a chance to respond. And I think they even sat down with some leadership before they had before the Lombardi stuff. Okay. I'm just my understanding. Yes. So that's just one on one, man. If I got a question, you got to go ask. Even if you don't get the answer. You know, because you never really know either you could guess you were going to get all the time to see we're on the East and East and of course, that was that was all guess. That was predictable. But you know, I'm sure you got to ask questions. But that's that's that's basic again, the same thing. I can't figure Joseph out by the way. Is he talking about us? Like sometimes I wonder. I don't know. Sometimes Joseph watches the show, doesn't watch the show. Basically everything on a thumbnail. I mean, it's fine. But no, I didn't watch yesterday. I mean, like I'm using, but I'm using Joseph's call because that is a sentiment that has been prevalent.

You know, I know, but I can't quite, you're talking to the relative to the topic of hand. Oh, no, I get sidetracked sometimes by Joseph. Here's the thing about Joseph. Okay. And Joseph, I understand we say this. We appreciate you listening and we appreciate you calling the sports for things like that. And then this is the difference. Well, maybe the experiences in the paper days where it's like, I, you know, the news and the disturbor, I got rid of that subscription years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And yet they always knew what you wrote about you. Right. They're always aware. Right. My personal favorite in the radio days and to a certain extent, it still exists today in the podcast form, which is separate. But in the radio days, it was, I just happened to listen to that to that, to that specific show where you said the thing I didn't like. I just happened to be listening to that. But that's it. But that's the only time I listen, where I got in my car. And for some reason, it was on the radio station. The scan hadn't gone all the way through it. Right. Okay. That's always my favorite. That excuse still exists today in podcast form, which is even more hilarious because the clip is in my time. The podcast just doesn't randomly appear on your radio. Like you have to

actively go to our podcast, click on the episode, get to the timestamp. You see what I'm saying? Yeah. And then yes, you're bringing up the social media of like, why is this garbage in my feed? It's because you've interacted with it in the past. That's why this quote unquote, garbage is in your feed. Joseph is just the latest iteration of that. I got no hear there on that. Now we'll say this. This is what I will say about everything that's going on. And I think the reason why there's a visceral reaction, the way it's happening. And I have also had its visceral reaction. And I say this knowing that it's hard times in this business. I know it's hard times over there on Western Boulevard. Now this is a completely different like OG business topic. But clearly Pablo Torre has paved the way for other attempts to Pablo Torre a story. And I'm saying this as an industry wide thing, okay? An industry wide thing, not specific to the case of UNC or Pat Welter specifically. Why like Pat, Pat, not into that for a long time. Yeah, I think

Pat does good work. However, the Pablo Torreification of how these things get presented because of the platforms that exist in order to get this out there. Make it appear as though the reporter is the main character. And there's going to be an there's going to be a visceral reaction to that consumer taking this news in and rather than focusing on the news itself. Well, why is this person doing it like this? Why is Pat walking and talking outside of the canine and expressing his thing because that's the business now. That's how this stuff breaks through. That's how it ends up in your timeline. If you are upset about the way things are covered today and how they are presented, you have one person to blame and one person only you yourself. You stopped reading. You stopped watching the news. You stopped paying for stuff. And then you complain about, well, why is it like this now? Because in order for this to break through into your

timeline, it has to be presented in a particular way. So ask yourself, why is the coverage like this? Well, there's a whole bunch of reasons why it's like this. And it has a lot to do with your media consumption is the classic case of why are the cowboys always on my TV? There's a reason for that. You that's why why do you think about the broad? You you're the reason for that. So anyway, it's really that that's the only thing out. It's been kind of like bubbling around with a lot of the presentation why people are reacting the way they are. I think has to do with the way it's presented. And there's a Pablo tourification and a lot of people are mad at Pablo. But there's this whole thing about like the the the clipper stuff and things like that or how we talked about Bill Bell check and stuff like that. And I had no beef with Pablo because Pablo is trying to do journalism in the way that it has to be done now. Yeah, presented in a way that it has to be done now. Yeah. And it bothers a lot of people. But otherwise, how's the story going to break through? So that's kind of what we're at right now.

So I for another segment within a segment in the lightning round, I asked for a mountain near minute. Oh, let's go. I asked for a mountain near minute shout out to the guy on the YouTube comments yesterday saying the mountain near minute is what they used to call me on campus. I see you, buddy. I see you, buddy. Hey, we've all been there. Let's go at 336 for a mountain near minute. Hey guys, Garrett. When can say I'm just calling to talk a little out of Facebook, Bob. You can't put too much stock in a game. You play as he liked Maine. It's all up to everything you're supposed to do when you play that type of opponent. I didn't give up a first down for most of the first half. Didn't give up a touchdown for the entire game. You know, hung 55, put up a 50 burger on offense. I think if you're getting nitpicky, a couple of things concern me. Red zone efficiency absolutely filled this team last year. So it's a little disappointing to see, you know, first drive. They had a fumble in the red zone that resulted in the turnover a couple drives later. They had

back-to-back procedural penalties that, you know, I'm going to go on the red zone. I need to clean that up. Converted on a couple of fourths downs. But, you know, when you're playing the team like Maine, you really like to not get to fourth down. You know, I'd like to see them convert some of this third downs. But overall, you know, pumps with how the team looked did a great job where it's hidden some guys in late too. So I think this weekend against ECU is going to be the real test of where we're at with this team probably for both programs. So excited for the game and look podcast guys. I've say it's got a great run here and they got ECU Saturday. Then they host Charlotte, then they go to state and they play Old Dominion at Coastal James Madison. Yeah. And Gasso, they're traditional rival Georgia. So that's a one, two, three, four, five, say, they've had a seven game run where if you're an app state fan, the only thing missing, there's nothing missing. Maybe you prefer Carolina to state, but you'd prefer some wins over those

teams. Right. No, I'm no, the schedule is good, but that's the schedule is good. Look at ECU schedule. I know. I mean, yeah. That's that's a dream, man. Yeah, no, I'm with you on that. I appreciate you calling in for the mountain. You're a minute, but I feel like with the mountain you're a minute, this could be a crowdsource thing. Yeah. Clearly there are very motivated at state fans who listen to the show. And if you got you got your take plenty of app state fans. Let's do it. I'm with it. I'm not to come up. It's just changed so much on them that I feel like that's you know, I feel yes, I understand. Like friends, we had Brian. I didn't even realize they were one of the teams that made a bulking last year with a losing record. Yeah. I was in here going a lot. How they go five and eight? Like, how's that even a thing? Somebody's got to play. Now, the question that I would have is we're going to do a mountain near a minute on a consistent basis like we are with the no quarter hour, which we're going to do tomorrow. Yeah. We got this for the no quarter.

So do we with state? Do we do? Do we have Brian? Do an Eric church riff? God. Who's the? Make a loop comes. A loop comes riff. Yeah. Don't make it. Who did such a faker? Who did the cold beer one? Never let me down. Look home. Okay. Oh. Long neck. I ask cold beer. Never broke my heart. I feel like there's something that Brian can do around app state with that. Absolutely. I so if we could make that the mountain, you're minute that I'm all in on that one. I thought you were adding the clip of Cliff Godwin going off on James last year. I should do that. I should do that. I had a listener said that clip to me and I was like, I missed this. I'm proud of James. He didn't go say my am on Cliff Godwin. Did not. And he was there on the next game. Damn, right. He was. You go back. What am I supposed to do? Yeah. Hey, about that bullpen. Hey, you learning from

yeah, about that pitching, doing what you have to do. Teach him the game, man. Teach him the game. Just like I teach my kids about the matrix simulation that we're all living in, I am not alone in conspiracy theories. DK Metcalf apparently has a sweet, sweet conspiracy theory. This is from the athletic DK Metcalf's Antarctic theory. I think it's another world. Well, kind of yeah, it is. So DK Metcalf loves conspiracy theories and he's not shy about it. Man, he's on the perfect team. He even says it too. I'm a big conspiracy theorist. Shout out to my quarterback. And quote, that's a real quote. DK, what a Metcalf's most curious theories. He thinks that Antarctica is another world. I think there's another civilization inside earth. He's on that inside inside earth. He's on that big. The dinosaurs didn't go extinct, buddy. They're actually deep inside the planet. Okay. Okay. That's what that is. Look, I'm not going to make fun of DK because I occasionally

think about conspiracy. He's too like y'all know my unifying theory that we're living in a simulation. That the matrix is a real thing that you and I are essentially just sims in somebody's video game. That's all we are. We are batteries. I believe in that. Ghosts glitches in the machine. I do buy that. But Antarctica going with that whole like sub-earth stuff. That's good. That is good. Now I credit the athletic world. You have the hollow earth theory. So I credit the athletic writer for going to somebody who works, where did this person work? A Brent Chrysner. He's a life long Steelers fan and associate professor of microbiology at the University of Florida. And he says there is indeed a civilization living inside Antarctica, sort of. He said that deep under miles of ice, there is water. What is this? Sently talking heads under the water. I

heard over the ocean. I regret typing this in. Oh god. What did you find? Popular Antarctica conspiracies. Yeah. The ice wall. Flat earthers claim Antarctica is not a continent, but a massive ice wall holding the oceans in. Oh, intriguing. So this professor says that microbes are so infinitesimal that something as small as a crab or a slug would be unable to survive off of it. But there is like another civilization under all that ice. Clearly. But the ice wall. Okay. I like the ice wall. Now are we floating on a turtle in space? McCumber. The giant blue eye giant. I game of the rooms. Yeah. Here we are. I love a conspiracy theory. You know what's that a conspiracy? Game day men's health. Real actual science. Okay. So great. Good game day men's health Austin's over in the carrier location. They got locations across the triangle. But Austin's our guy. He's going to be back in studio here soon. And go pay him a visit. Game day men's health

But remember, they got that drums with the deconstructed peanut drum stick. I have to get that. That looks pretty good. And look, if you're concerned about Duke's office while you're at walls, wait, it's okay. See to my screen. It's going to be okay. Duke's going to be fine. And the devil's tracks to just make you feel good, man. That's what it's all about. I

got to hear with some hey Joe. It's brought to you by Brassville accounting. We'll tell you about Brassville accounting in a little bit. Let's go back to the OG sports fun. I go nine. One, two, one, one. Call the OG sports. Uh, this might fall under corrections and clarifications. This is go ahead with it. Hi, gentlemen. I was listening to the podcast yesterday. And there's just one thing that absolutely floored me that I felt like I had to call and clarify the fabricy thing. On the top of your car called a headliner. Headliner. You're welcome. The headliner. I did not know that. I didn't either. I just know it's the fabric on the ceiling that occasionally looks like a circus. You're under the big top. What did I call it? Carpeting? You said it was a pulse. I think I said a pulse. Yeah. Yeah. Headliner. Headliner. No,

I was today's day's old when I learned that. No, look, I got a car person. Obviously, I am not a car person either during that time when I was trying to figure out how to correct to fix the headliner in that Oh nine civic. Yeah. I did go down a YouTube rabbit hole of how to do the stuff. There were people that will actually use an exacto knife to slice into the headliner fabric and then respray the foam onto the ceiling of the car and then press it back up. I'm like, yo, that's too much. What else can I do here? Are you a YouTube fixer when it comes to some of these things? I've gotten to be a YouTube person. Yeah. I'm the same. Mostly because usually car like replacing some sort of brake light or something. I'll watch the videos. I'm a visual person. So there's that. You could tell me a bunch of things. The other well visual, unless we're talking about Ikea furniture and that's just another different that the instructions on Ikea furniture hilarious. It's abstract art that you have

to interpret right now. So part of the reason why I've switched over to YouTube tutorials is because it goes back to my lightning round the state of the web. Okay. The AI summaries suck. They just suck and they're wrong. That's number one. Number two, because of SEO and time spent, especially when it comes to recipes, I don't need your life story before giving me the recipe. You're laughing because you know, I'm right. I don't need five paragraphs about the time that your abuelita would do thing. You know, like, I, you know, like, takes me back to my days in Ikea. My abuelita would make black beans and it makes me feel like some type of way and she would have her telenovela son while she was watching telomundo. And it's just like, can you just get me the so free don't recipe? Thanks. Appreciate that. Okay. So there's two main sources now for troubleshooting things for me. One is YouTube. The other is Reddit. Right.

So for instance, I've, I've kind of started getting back into dabbling the film photography. Okay. And I forgot how that is very dude. I forgot how to load a camera. We're going to try to view you. What's right? It's very. That's you finding more of your millennial side than your ex. It is. It is. It is. Plus, you know me, I still have a fascination for analog technology because it's the shit that will still be here when it's all said and done. Trust me. I don't think anything. I'll think of the twinkies. I don't think anything is going to be the O.G. Twinkies. As I see more and more evidence of things getting like delisted and whatnot, I've gotten more and more back into physical. Like I've thought about this as it relates to like the kids pictures and whatnot. Yeah. It's just gigs of pictures. Right? That hard drive fails. You're ass. You're going to grow. So whereas with my dad, again, I make fun of my dad. A lot of my dad has binders and binders of photo albums with my childhood. Okay. It's kind of important.

So these are things that I think about. Speaking of speaking of games, it gets us to Nada who was asking if I have thoughts on the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake trailer that talked about really in my wheelhouse. I did what when Joe walked in today before we started recording. I actually was watching the Nintendo Direct for I just wanted to see what they did with with the H HD remake of a legendary Zelda game for the Nintendo 64. And there's a little unreal engine genericness to the game, but it looks good. And I have not played Ocarina of Time since it came out that I'm willing to go revisit it on my Nintendo Switch too. They also added some cool features like like quality of life improvements like modern game things that make sense now. Like you can jump now. A dedicated button to jumping. What a concept, right? It's such a good idea.

But they're also because Nintendo they're actually selling a playable Ocarina because that's how you would warp from various places of time. And apparently you can also hum and it'll pick up on it and that will activate the time traveling function. So look, y'all know I'm gonna buy it. Like it's not even a question. It comes out on November 5th. I'm gonna freaking buy the game. Okay. I'm gonna buy the game. All right, we have a lot of thoughts on the Michigan thing. A lot of thoughts on the Michigan thing. I almost feel like we're gonna save the Michigan for the for those who have been calling in about Michigan and Western Michigan. We'll probably tap into that from mailbag. Okay. Because we've had a lot of I feel like it's its own thing as we get further and further away from that that it's gonna be its own thing. So I'm hoping it's people saying it was total complete bullshit. Oh yeah, no, no, it's mostly people saying it's bullshit. Okay, mostly people saying it's bullshit. So just to be clear, I appreciate the people who have called in on Michigan ticks. I'm just kind of like at the right there coming in. It feels like more of a mailbag segment for the end of the week than

anything else. Let's go back to the sports phone. Morning. I guess depending on when you're listening to this afternoon. OG just had some panther. I paid the question for you. I saw on draftings that I think they had the third best odds or third worst odds, I guess if you will, to win the division and like I know they stumbled into winning it last year, but like I feel like the bucks got worse. Faints may have gotten a little better and the Falcons are horrible. Like why the disrespect? I'm pretty sure we got better on paper, right? Like a lot better on defense. So you guys could shed some light on on this kind of disrespect would be much appreciated. Thank you. So we address some of that at the beginning of the show, but like do you think it's disrespect? No, there's always a reason behind it. It's their schedule. They have the first place schedule. Okay. So you got the Bears, the Lions, Eagles, Denver, Baltimore, Seattle. They play a lot of good

teams out of the division. And then I think for the most part, they're saying there's no significant advantage either way in the division. Right. So that's what they're basically saying is you're going to play six games where it's a coin toss. Yes. That's see that's yeah, that's that's the way I would look at it. And I think it's back to what we were saying earlier in that segment. In that, it's the NSC South. It's throw them in a pot, man. Throw them in a pot. We really do not know. Other than maybe Atlanta, but then again, we saw times that we saw the other thing I would say about the Panthers. And we're going to talk about this a little bit more with Mike K. Excuse me, not with ESPN tomorrow. In that, we're getting a happier version of Mike K. What are we just getting? We're getting Mike baseline. Like we're getting base like Mike. And I don't want him to change at all. I mean, I wouldn't wouldn't would not want him to change at all. Okay. Mike is my he's our Mike. Thank you very much. No, what I would say too is that when we talked about this Julian council last week in that we can't forget how they want the division.

Oh, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. So it's not a matter of disrespect. It's more like, hey guys, let's remember how they won the division last year. It wasn't like they went, they didn't do it. They didn't do it themselves. They needed massive amounts of help to make that happen. So let's dial it back a little bit. And that's why the Panthers are kind of viewed in this way. I think it's all a matter of the schedule. Maybe a fair as you would like the point out though, just because something looks easier, supposed to be easier or difficult. I mean, it always plays on that way. Love a schedule. Anyway, that's going to wrap it up for today's show. We'll have our no quarter hour tomorrow with James Julio. As I mentioned, Mike K ESPN now covers the Panthers. He will be joining us as we're one step closer to the Bryce Young Armageddon season. I'm very much looking forward to this. Oh, we got real football tomorrow too. Yes. I don't know how I feel about that. Good to see you. Wednesday, Thursday in the past. Yeah. I don't know. I feel about that. I'm back in a survivor pool. We roll the dice tomorrow. We can talk about that. We roll the dice tomorrow.

Let's talk. Let's talk about the survivor. See now. It's funny. Whereas I'm very much fantasy football. All that excitement. I do love a survivor pool. It takes me feel a certain way. It does. I do love a survivor pool. All right. We'll talk to you later.
