Wranglers Fall to Moose, Host Silver Knights

The Calgary Wranglers dropped a 4-2 decision to the Manitoba Moose in their noon matchup on Sunday, splitting both the weekend set and the overall season series.

Coming in with a 2-1-0-0 series lead, after a 7-2 win on Friday, Calgary pushed hard but couldn't grab the edge, as Manitoba pulled.

Away in the third period, the game stayed tight through two periods, tied at 1-1 after the first and trailing 2-1 entering the final frame.

Calgary stuck with the same lineup that worked before, starting our Sinai Sergeyev in net, while out shooting the Moose 46-37 overall.

There were some scrums and penalties, including a fight between Brennan-Offman and Isaac Phillips, laden the first.

Justin Kirkland and Carter Wilkie scored for the Wranglers, with Kirkland tying it on the power play and Wilkie deflecting one in early third.

Alex Gallant earned third star honors with his play. Despite the shot advantage, Manitoba capitalized on key chances to seal the win.

Wranglers forward Carter Wilkie noted after the game that they had good stretches, but lapses in their systems cost them momentum.

It was a frustrating finish to the series, especially with Calgary chasing playoff positioning.

Looking ahead, the Wranglers host the Henderson Silver Knights this week, starting Tuesday at 7pm.

Mountain time and wrapping Thursday, grabbing points from a team ahead in the standings, could give them a big boost.
