Hello, my name is Jesse Meakum with another episode of the Jesse Meakum Show and I'm
here each week to obsess out loud about you getting good at money.
Which means I am implying, I am inferring, no I'm implying, I'm not inferring, I'm implying
that you might have been bad at money.
At some point, maybe you are right now and maybe you stumbled upon this show and you don't
even know who this guy is, you can learn more at wineapp.com slash Jesse but before you
do that, hang with me for a second.
My whole focus is to get you good at money and it's just a skill, you acquire it through
practice, through a little bit of effort, through some awareness and we can get you good
It means that your money does what you want it to do.
It means that you don't have this constant second guessing nagging that you actually don't
even realize it's there but once it's gone you realize it was there and you feel kind
of mad but also so glad that you've turned things around.
It's not about earning more money, I mean sure who doesn't want that but that does not
eliminate money worry and when you are good at money you will find that money worry is
You will never worry about it again.
Last week we wrote a letter to our past self and I'll admit I was given this assignment
and they said to write a letter to your future self maybe stick it in a time capsule and
then have your future self open it up if you remembered where you buried that time capsule
and that is an if for me.
I misread this and I wrote a letter as if from the future to my present self which is
not the assignment but I so thoroughly enjoyed it that we're going to have to make a two
part series into a three part series because now I'm just going to be having correspondence
between these past and future versions of me and I think next week I might actually
do the assignment and write a letter to my future self and stick it in a time capsule
but for right now I'm changing it.
I'm like the substitute teacher that reads the lesson plan just like that doesn't seem
very fun and tosses it over their head much to the excitement of the fourth graders.
So I wrote a letter from me from the future to me but what I was doing was imagining a
future version writing back to me and giving me some advice and that is in a sense directionally
it got my mind in a good spot.
It got my mind to a spot where I could kind of imagine where I wanted to be and then
I'm writing back to my present self saying how it's going.
So I found it useful as a substitute teacher always does.
Hey Jesse from the present I'm Jesse from the future making eye contact with you right
I hate to break it to you but I'm still pretty amateur when it comes to woodworking.
And don't stop trying but golf does not get any easier I've basically hovered around
the mid 80s which is right where I left you if I recall anyway onto some money stuff
here's my advice be maniacally intentional about spending your money hyper focus on areas
where you have lasting connection legacy and hyper locality.
Keep your eyes open for things right in your backyard and I don't think aside I don't
think I mean the time capsule in that instance.
Okay make lots of attempts at helping people and never stop you'll find some that miss
and some that hit and the hits are hits.
It's okay to switch up your hobbies.
I finally got did you read lessons and that's been a lot of fun I tell you they're expensive
but what kind of a word is that they're worth it.
Just keep answering the questions and let the answers teach you more about yourself and
Julie also Julie gets pretty good at entering her transactions.
I said pretty good not perfect also congrats on your lifetime bench PR at 44 years old
sorry to burst your bubble that last one did hurt a little bit.
Good to know still work on it but the joys and the journey it's in the pursuit.
The idea of imagining a future self riding back to you does kind of tell you where you want
to be mindset wise and where I want you to be is in a place where money is doing exactly
what you wanted to do nothing more or less.
I want you to be in a place where you are content and if you're still striving still working
on things that's totally great.
Some people like to say content in your disc content and I think that's a perfect tension
I want you to be done with that little voice that nags at you like can you afford this
can you for this can you for this are we sacrificing this are we giving up this if we
do this here we're going to do.
I want you to just be crystal clear as my future self said maniacally intentional about
your spending not in a successive kind of way not even in a maximization kind of way
we don't maximize we realize we realize what we want our money to do and then we have
our money do that thing and when you are there in that state money worry is gone and you
haven't earned more you've just realized more I guess what you want your money to do
and you're good at money so until next time just give every dollar job and never ever
worry about money again.
