Well, it's been 15 years since Thor first smashed onto our screens.
0:05
And before the hammer and the hero, there was Dakota Goya,
0:09
the tiny actor who played the young God of Thunder.
0:13
When I'm king, I'll hug the rofters down and slay them all.
0:19
Just as you did, Father.
0:21
A wise king never seeks out war.
0:25
It's easier sometimes to go through war.
0:27
So Dakota went on to star alongside Hugh Jackman in real steel.
0:31
He voiced Jamie Bennett in Rise of the Guardians
0:34
and even played young Noah in the Russell Crowe epic.
0:38
Let's go. Dakota joins us now from Toronto in Canada.
0:44
Hello. Thank you for having me.
0:45
Welcome to the show.
0:47
It must have been like an absolute dream role to land that as an 11-year-old.
0:50
Do you remember when you first found out that you got that part?
0:54
I do. Yeah, it was two weeks after filming real steel.
0:58
And there was no audition process.
1:00
They told me we would like you to play young Thor.
1:03
And I was very excited because I was a comic book kid.
1:05
So I read all the comics.
1:07
And yeah, it was very exciting for sure.
1:10
The film features so many huge stars.
1:12
Like, of course, Chris Hemsworth at the Hopkins Natalie Portman.
1:16
What was that like working alongside that such greats?
1:20
Truthfully, I only met Anthony Hopkins.
1:23
I didn't get to meet Chris Hemsworth, unfortunately.
1:26
Well, how could you because you had lunch?
1:29
I met Tom Hiddleston on a plane on a separate occasion on a flight to London.
1:34
Do you remember, did you get any advice that really stuck with you as a young kid on that film set?
1:41
On Thor, I did get some good advice.
1:45
If I'm going to give you one piece of advice, it would be something I got from real steel.
1:52
It would be from Hugh Jackman.
1:53
And it would be to never practice too much because you can taint the authenticity of the performance.
2:01
Let it flow naturally, let the scene breathe.
2:04
That would be the best piece of advice for everybody.
2:07
Well, that's also the philosophy that you practice here.
2:11
You have to practice it all.
2:14
Just let it flow as it comes to you.
2:16
Oh, you're way to lunch.
2:18
You still want to take for performance.
2:21
But notice that this film may have had an impact on your workout routine.
2:25
What was your end goal to look like Thor?
2:29
I don't have the Australian genetics.
2:31
But it was just sort of off as a small goal to improve my health.
2:35
And I fell in love with the lifestyle, pushing myself and fell in love with the discipline.
2:41
So I won't be looking back.
2:44
But I wouldn't call it bodybuilding.
2:45
I would just call it fitness, keeping fit.
2:49
Well, I mean, if you're going to hang out with people and be inspired by people,
2:51
it might as well be a huge act when it criss-hams with, right?
2:58
I don't have the Australian genetics, though.
2:59
Let's keep that in mind.
3:00
I'm not going to be that big.
3:01
Did you, when you were 11 years old on these film sets, did you think,
3:04
this is something I want to do for the rest of all time, for the rest of my life?
3:11
It's a very young age.
3:12
I knew that I have an extreme passion for this.
3:14
On the contrary to what you may read online about me being retired,
3:20
I'm actively pursuing my career.
3:22
And I will always have a passion for it.
3:24
And I'm very proud of what I have accomplished.
3:27
Well, it's so good to check in after all these years.
3:29
Dakota, thanks for your time this morning.
3:32
Thank you so much for your time.
3:33
Thank you for all growing up.
3:36
And thank you for reminding me, from your heart, not to practice.
3:41
It's an important take away.
3:43
I believe it's true.
3:44
Love it to see you this morning.
