This new trend of vilifying alcohol as the scourge of the earth seems incredibly hyperbolic to me. Yes, drinking can be bad, but it can also be good. It all depends on how you use it and how it affects you. In life, we often trade risks for pleasure or payoff. A night out with friends and drinks can lead to fun adventures and encounters that wouldn't happen otherwise. Yes, there are other ways to have fun, but in a culture of people that are increasingly isolated, lonely, disconnected and depressed, the trade off of drinks at the bar may well be worth the headache.
