1:00One of the biggest questions we carry as human beings is, what happens next? What will Heaven be like? The Bible gives us incredible promises about eternity. We know that through Jesus, death isn't the end. We know there will be no more pain, no more suffering, and that we will be with God. But it's interesting that the Bible doesn't give us every detail about Heaven. And maybe that's intentional. Maybe God didn't reveal everything because He doesn't want us spending our lives only looking forward to the next one. He wants us to live this one. Jesus said, I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly. We don't have to fear the future because God holds eternity. 2:0352. Awake, awake Zion. Clothe yourself with strength. Put on your garments of splendor. Jerusalem the Holy City. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again. Shake off your dust. Rise up. Sit in Throne to Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains of your neck, daughters Zion. Now a captive. For this is what the Lord says. You were sold for nothing. And without money, you will be retained. For this is what the sovereign Lord says. At first, I people went down to Egypt to live. Lately, a Syria has oppressed them. And now, what do I have here to clear the Lord? For my people have been taken away for nothing. And those who rule them mock, to clear the Lord. And all day long, my name is constantly blasphemed. Therefore my people will know my name.

3:04Therefore in that day, they will know that it is I who foretold it. Yes, it is I. Not beautiful on the mountains of the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, your God reigns. Listen, your watchmen lift up their voices. Together, they shop for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. First into songs of joy together. You ruins of Jerusalem. But the Lord has comforted his people. He has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God. Depart, depart, go out from there. Touch no unclean thing. Come out from it and be pure. You who carried the articles of the Lord's house, but you will not leave and haste or go out and fight, for the Lord will go before you.

4:07The God of Israel would be your rearguard. See my servant will act wisely. He will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him, as appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form, marred beyond human likeness. So he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand. The Bible never promises us a life of ease and comfort. On the contrary, Jesus promises us trouble in John 1633. Thankfully, He next tells us to reject fear because He has overcome the world. This could be a summary of Isaiah 52 above. Despite how the Bible continually tells us, we will have battles and challenges.

5:09Both in outright teaching and the narrative of every God follower we read about Scripture, we still get surprised when hard times come our way. Many even question God's goodness when tragedy strikes. God doesn't promise we will avoid difficult situations, whether betrayal or accident or disease. He does promise that He will provide his peace and victory in the midst of each circumstance, helping us to persevere in faith and see him fulfill his promises in our lives. Just as Christ endured the cross with hope before him, so do we our own. Isaiah 52 describes how the people of God have been placed under the yoke of blasphemous and oppressive powers. However, the good news is also declared. God will be victorious over all things and bring his people with him into a good land.

6:11When we get overwhelmed, fixing our eyes on this sure hope provides us His shalom, His complete peace that passes understanding in the middle of our difficult journey. The peace now is connected to our hope in Christ. Heavenly Father, we praise you that Jesus has already overcome the world. When trials, sickness and sorrows come, help us reject fear and trust your promises. Feel us with your shalom that passes understanding and secures our hearts in the storms of life. Keep our eyes focused on the hope set before us. Just as Christ endured the cross with joy ahead. Sistine us to persevere in faith when circumstances seem overwhelming by resting in you as our peace. Remind us of the goodness, faithfulness and kindness of your character.

7:18Help us to choose to lay down in the green pastures of your peace, knowing you will bring us safely into the fullness of your kingdom and joy. In Jesus' name, amen.
