Founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was a Bengali Hindu monk and the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, also known as the Hare Krishna movement. He was born Choudhury Swami Prabhupada in 1896 in Calcutta, India. Prabhupada studied Sanskrit, philosophy, and theology at the University of Calcutta and later at the University of London. He became a monk in 1922 and traveled extensively throughout India and the world, spreading the teachings of Krishna consciousness. He wrote numerous books on spirituality and philosophy, including the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam. Prabhupada passed away in 1977, but his legacy continues to inspire millions of people around the world.
