Medieval scholar and advisor to Charlemagne
Alcuin of York was a medieval scholar and advisor to Charlemagne. He was born in Northumbria in 735 and became one of the most influential scholars of the 8th century. Alcuin was a master of Latin and Greek and was known for his expertise on theology and philosophy. He played a key role in the development of the Carolingian Renaissance and was a close advisor to Charlemagne. Alcuin died in 804 and was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Denis.
