Aleksandr Alekseevich Sholokhov was a Russian novelist and short story writer. He is best known for his novel 'And Quiet Flows the Don', which won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1966. Sholokhov was born in 1905 in the village of Novocherkassk, Russia, and grew up in a poor peasant family. He began writing at a young age and went on to become one of the most celebrated writers of the Soviet era. Sholokhov's work often explored themes of Russian identity, history, and the human condition.
