Alice Seely Harris was an American journalist and photographer who exposed the atrocities committed by King Leopold II in the Congo Free State. She was one of the first women to use a camera to document human rights abuses. Harris's photographs were smuggled out of the Congo and published in newspapers around the world, bringing international attention to the crisis. She is considered a pioneering figure in the history of human rights photography.
