Andrea Cristofori was an Italian instrument maker and musician. He is best known for inventing the piano. Cristofori was born in Florence, Italy in 1659 and died in 1731. He worked as a musician and instrument maker for the Medici family. Cristofori's most famous instrument is the piano, which he invented in the early 18th century. He also made other musical instruments, including harpsichords and violins. Cristofori was a prominent figure in the musical and cultural life of Florence during the 17th and 18th centuries.
