Polish film director, screenwriter, and actor Andrzej Wajda was born in 1926 in Suwałki, Poland. He is best known for his films that often explored the struggles of the Polish people during World War II and the communist era. Wajda was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1975 Cannes Film Festival for his film 'Man of Marble'.
