Anna Achmatova was a Russian poet, novelist, and playwright who is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. Born in 1889 in St. Petersburg, Russia, Achmatova studied literature at the University of St. Petersburg and began her writing career in the early 1910s. She was a key figure in the Russian avant-garde movement and was known for her innovative and expressive poetry. Achmatova's work was heavily influenced by her experiences during the Russian Revolution and the subsequent Soviet regime.
