Archbishop and liturgical expert
Annibale Bugnini was an Italian archbishop and liturgical expert who played a key role in the reform of the Catholic liturgy in the 1960s. Born in 1902, Bugnini studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and was ordained as a priest in 1927. He served as a bishop in various dioceses before becoming the chief architect of the Novus Ordo, the new Mass introduced by the Second Vatican Council. Bugnini's work on the liturgy was widely influential, but he is also known for his role in the controversy surrounding the reform of the Mass. He died in 1982.
