He was born on March 26, 2000, in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. Richard played junior hockey for the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
