Dutch tradesman and amateur scientist
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch tradesman and amateur scientist who is considered the father of microbiology. He was born in 1632 in Delft, Netherlands and died in 1723. He was a skilled craftsman and entrepreneur, but he also had a passion for science and discovery. He spent his life studying the natural world and making observations about the tiny organisms that surround us. He was the first to observe and describe microorganisms using a microscope, and his discoveries revolutionized our understanding of the natural world.
